The responsibility for building the new temple rested with the local population, which was then six hundred people. The church was practically completed in 1565. In 1587 the Bishop of the Algarve, D. Jerónimo Barreto, ordered the altarpiece in the chancel to be gilded and painted. The 1755 earthquake damaged the temple, namely the ousia that was overthrown, but the prior immediately ordered its reconstruction. Regarding the carving, only an eighteenth century altarpiece survived from the first chapel on the side of the epistle, next to the cruise. Of great value is the sculptural heritage, composed of about twenty images from the 17th to the 19th centuries, of which the image of S. Libório from the 18th century stands out. In São Brás de Alportel there is also an Ethnographic Museum of the Algarve Costume, which is installed in the António Bentes house. São Brás de Alportel is a Portuguese village in the district of Faro, region and sub-region of the Algarve, with about 4 700 inhabitants.
