Got back on Sunday following yet another fantastic 8 days
There were certainly more rocks and stones on the Peneco beach than I remember in previous years but there were only the odd one or two big(ish) ones.
The waves/surf was bigger than in previous years too especially last Tuesday when the lifeguards were blowing their whistles like they were going out of fashion - also witnessed 3 rescues over the week: 1 was a fat bloke in a tyre getting washed down and out toward the cliffs & path who would defintely have been washed away if it wasn't for the older lifeguard blokey - nice rescue mate
And at the end of the day on the beach what could be better than a nice cold beer or glass of rose?

We arrive on 9th September - hopefully the beaches will not be too crowded but certainly hope the weather is still as hot - see you there!

Hi Cheeky,
Albufeira's full of Portugese and Spanish at the moment, plus the tides right in, it will be busy in September but not packed like August. Which is why September is one of my favourite months, I will have my towel on the beach on the 8th Sept, cannot wait !

Hope the beaches are not that crowded when I arrive 6th September. Luckily the
beach at Forte Sao Joao where we stay never gets really crowded.

Cheers for the info Cubsur. Ah well, a few rocks here and there shouldn't spoil the greater enjoyment of just being out there with all the associated good stuff

Quite possibly and I suspect also the operation to scrape back the loose material on the cliffs contributed, as it is far worse down that end. Here's some more. Just the kind of thing you can crack a toe on - I did about ten years ago - or worse of course. These pictures are on the Inatel beach heading east.

I wonder if the dredging operation that went on for months on end over the winter contributed to this?

Peneco end of the beach yesterday. Isolated rocks but hard to spot if a few inches of water are covering them. These were 8 or 9 inches long. over on the Inatel beach it is much worse. I will post those pictures later.

Peneco wasn't too bad, but it gets much worse as you go past Inatel beyond the pier. If the tide's right I will see if I can get a couple of pictures tomorrow.

Which one mate? Hopefully not Peneco. A week tomorrow and we'll be (once again) flying out there. Can't wait

Went for a walk along the beach on Wednesday. There were a large number of fairly large rocks and jagged lumps of concrete exposed by the low tide.
Please be careful jumping in and out of the waves. I saw a nasty accident when I was in France in similar circumstances. |
