On the webcam there is a JCB type digger working in the dark and in the edge of the waves working around Roca, must be serious

Some pictures taken this afternoon. There is some minor damage around the pinnacle end of the beach. The sea wasn't particularly rough, but the waves were almost reaching the Roca restaurant. Near the pier, the waves were reaching right to the base of the cliff, something I have not seen in a long time.

Some appreciate the big waves!

Sorry if this you, couldn't resist taking this picture!

I wasn't able to see for myself yesterday, but was told that the restaurant was being hit by waves. We have another stormy weekend ahead. Sand was being piled up to try to create at least a temporary barrier. I shall go see for myself later today.

I though it was about 4 million. I wonder how much it would cost today.
If this weather keeps up, how long will the beach restaurant survive?

It was 15 years ago that the beach was made wider and deeper by dredging sand offshore and pumping it across. The cost was I believe in the region of 4 million Euros part financed by central government as were similar projects along the coast. Before then, high seas used to come right up to the cliffs, which were being eroded at a rapid rate. Work also included removing a lot of loose sandstone and generally stabilising the cliffs.

Since then the sand has naturally re-established itself, but as you say this might not be the case after these weeks of unprecedented weather. Apparently January 2026 was the wettest Januaryfor 25 years.

Hi Cubcur.

What year did the council pump a load of sand on to the beach and what was the cost. As it looks like they will have to repeat it as most of the beach by the lift has disappeared.

A rare sunny day, but not very warm! A few people were enjoying a walk on the beach last Sunday afternoon.

Sunday afternoon, 28th December. Fairly cold and windy, with heavy showers passing by. The stage for the New Year's Eve event is being built.

The view across the old town centre, with the Sol e Mar hotel and parish church in the foreground.

Repair work under way near the Sol e Mar hotel following the recent fall of rock.
