It was 1.0450 in Albufeira on Sunday before I left for the UK.
Nationwide debit card rate on withdrawals on Friday the 18th was 1.1196, so quite a lot better rate.

Hi Guys,

It's worries about the UK economy thats weakened the £ against other currencies, It's not Gordon Browns fault, he is blaming the prevous chancellor !!!

Possibly the final collapse of the western capitalist economy.

The reality is that exchange rate £ to € is falling rapidly once more, so if you are planning to spend £2000 while on holiday later this year, maybe it's time to enter the sleazy world of international money dealing.

Shows how much they know! Anyway my small collection of £20 notes will now be secreted away to form the basis of my beer fund on my next UK trip - assuming that inflation doesn't suddenly take off.

Don,t wait too long £ is falling, financial markets view £ as the least attractive of the major currencies at the moment. ( just like  12 months ago )

I am waiting as well. I bought back a bundle of £ from my recent UK trip and will wait until the rate gets better or until I can go back to UK to spend it.
