Midian you will get a better rate in the UK than Albufeira, albeit only a few cents but it mounts up when you are changing a substantial amount.Only problem with changing a large amount of money is the security of it all. Better still if you have a Nationwide Flexi account debit card use that at the ATM machines, there is no charge and the rate is Visa business rate, you can withdraw 200 euros per day.

Went down the square today to change a wee bundle ,handed the dosh over and casually ask what was the rate today ,when she said 1.06 I said cancel the trans. I´ll wait a while!

I am waiting as well. I bought back a bundle of £ from my recent UK trip and will wait until the rate gets better or until I can go back to UK to spend it.

Don,t wait too long £ is falling, financial markets view £ as the least attractive of the major currencies at the moment. ( just like  12 months ago )

Shows how much they know! Anyway my small collection of £20 notes will now be secreted away to form the basis of my beer fund on my next UK trip - assuming that inflation doesn't suddenly take off.

Possibly the final collapse of the western capitalist economy.

The reality is that exchange rate £ to € is falling rapidly once more, so if you are planning to spend £2000 while on holiday later this year, maybe it's time to enter the sleazy world of international money dealing.

Well it was 1.21 (full rate) back in September, went down to 1.124 in October but has been rising slowly ever since to today's 1.174.

Don't get too gleeful - even if it stays on the up, the increases in the £ to € rate will be more than swallowed up by the forthcoming Portuguese VAT rises and 'adjustments' due in January.

I was offered 1.17 by Moneycorp on Thursday.

They say it is the level of European debt that is helping the rate rise, not the strength of the Pound. Another finance meeting, I believe for Portugal, on Thursday, so it may continue to rise until then.

Not doubting the veracity of your statement, but the Inter bank exchange rate is only €1.1832 at the moment. I should go to get a few more van loads at €1.20, before they all go.
