Most are closed, except a very few housing essential workers etc. All the long stay winter visitors have gone now. I had a quick look at some websites the other day. I spotted none taking any bookings until at least May.

Faro airport is to all intents and purposes closed. Over Easter there is a complete travel ban, so there will be nobody coming down from Lisbon or from Spain for a long weekend.

The state of emergency is in force until at least 17th April and almost certainly for some time after that. Normal life as we knew it is on indefinite hold.

Yes, I believe the concensus here is our best hope to be able to travel is June. Let’s hope so as that will mean, far more importantly, that we are on top of this virus.

Personally I think even June is optimistic, sorry.

Maybe a small consolation for those expecting to be here is that skies are grey, it is windy and there is rain in the air.

Earlier today.

Well, there is nothing open so nowhere to go. And it's raining.

Those expecting to be here would not be enjoying the wet weather, that's for sure.

17 workers in a house near Inatel beach are being isolated as some have proved positive. The GNR are stationed outside to ensure no one leaves.

Stay safe everyone

At least the Portuguese people seem to be taking the lockdown seriously. Looking at the Sol E Mar webcam on a regular basis and it shows virtually no one on the beach. Here in Fleetwood where I live, each day as we drive past there are hundreds of people strolling along the seafront.

"as we drive past"?
It is no coincidence that in no known language does the phrase 'As pretty as an Airport' appear. Douglas Adams

The law here is enforced by men (and women) with guns. There is a crime of 'disobedience' under the emergency laws.  If somewhere like a beach or promenade is roped off by the local council, you do not go there and face arrest if you do.

Should the UK forcibly ban people from beaches etc? Is there the legislation to enable this? I doubt it, given prevailing 'civil liberties'.

Police routinely with guns in the UK? Unlikely.  We don't have the history of mainland Europe.

You reckon Jock? There’s already loads of them and I don’t meant just London, Birmingham, Manchester.... I’ve also seen then in York, Worcester, Bristol, Derby, amongst many others.

This was reported in local media as being near Tavira, the second such incident involving large groups of migrant farm workers living in very poor conditions. Together these two incidents account for about 10% of the positive cases in the Algarve.

Yes as we drive past. You may never have visited Fleetwood, So the Esplanade, which is a Main Road, runs parallel with the beach for several miles (with short detour around Rossall School) all the way up to Lytham St Anne's which is just south of Blackpool around 15 miles in total. We go for a daily drive to relieve the boredom for the wife who is on a minimum 12 week lockdown due to previous illness (we never ever get out of the car)
