A bit off topic I'm afraid. Why does the Camara persist with calcadas on pavements where there is the chance to replace them with something quicker to lay and safer to walk on - perhaps tarmac or slabs?

They tried slabs in some places but they got very slippery when wet. I have the feeling that the calçada is part of the 'heritage'. Also the loose lay does allow a certain amount of rain to drain through rather than rush down the hills.

Some bits had an anti-skid surface laid but that's been worn away now.

But definitely a trip hazard!

"Still pottering away. Someone changed the sign that said '2 months' to '12 months'."

After staying in Castro Marim we'll be in this area of the old town Albufeira in about 3 weeks. It would be nice to think the work would be complete by then, but I doubt it.

I doubt that too.
Yesterday they were busy with 3 men to put the Stones in it and a piece of asphalt is still
needs to be paved.
The pavements along the asphalt must also be repaired....

Maybe some of the manual resources is being taken up with the work being done on Rua Pacifico.
Never put off something that you could do today

Nothing was happening in Bar Street when I walked through on Tuesday. Work continues in the big hole near the pier.

Gradually taking shape. These photos from Monday afternoon. The pavement on one side is  almost complete. The pavements will be about twice the width of the old ones and the road only 3.5 metres wide. Which means of course residents will have to park on them, so no advantage for pedestrians.

Well the work wasn't finished by the time we arrived and there doesn't look to have been much progress since the last photos.

They are happily pottering away, must be on daily rate and finish. The pavements are almost complete down both sides. No sign of any road surface going down.

Only two months behind schedule.

Do I sense some weary cynicism?

Me?

I am well used to everything taking twice as long as intended, if it ever gets finished at all,.

As of yesterday they have about 60 metres of paving left to do. It's cobblestones, which will do wonders for car and bus suspensions.

There were men actually working on it on Sunday. Nice bit of overtime for us taxpayers to weigh out on after seven months of work on a single 200m long street. Clearly getting a move onto impress the non-spending Portuguese from the north as they turn up over the next few weeks...
