Well, Farense have opted to play their big Cup game v Benfica at Sao Luis stadium after all.
Its next Wednesday, the 17th @8.45pm. Anyone going along, get there EARLY for parking ..... very early. Tickets appear to only be available from the ground.

Slightly curious in that there is absolutely no mention of this game on the Farense club website. It won't be Benfica's first team. Benfica 'Red Pass' members could buy tickets as of yesterday. From 1500 today they can be purchased by ordinary members. Then from tomorrow, general sales if any are still left after that. I assume that Farense are expecting all their season ticket holders to be there, thus none on public sale.

Thanks. I don't do Facebook. Basically what it says is that tickets are available for non members at 18 or 30 Euros (uncovered, covered sides), children under 6 not admitted. Tickets from the Farense ticket office at the stadium. Will not be sold to Benfica supporters, so hide your scarf.
No guarantee tickets will be available on the night. The stadium holds on 5,500 and even with Benfica's second string will probably be a sell-out. There is of course no public transport after the game.

Last night in Algarve League Division One Ferreiras 2- 0 Silves Despite having most of the possession, especially in the first half, Silves managed only one decent effort on goal. They gifted Ferreiras the opening goal just before half time, very slack defence and a fumble by the ´keeper giving Ricardo Esteves a simple tap-in. Ferreiras second, as the game entered its final minutes, was well worked, although the Silves defence was stretched. Rafa Texeira applied the final touch from distance. Half way through the first phase, the top of the Algarve League Division One tables looks like this : Imortal Albufeira 29 points, Ferreiras 25 points and Quarteirense 23 points. Imortal have two crunch games early in January, at home to Quarteirense on the 3rd and away to Ferreiras on the 10th. In the Portuguese FA Cup 5th round, Farense lost two-nil to Benfica reserves. One Nicolas Otamendi was in the starting line up. He spent four seasons at Manchester City a few years ago. Most of the rest are suitably obscure.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES
First off there almost no football in Portugal next weekend. Only the top two divisions have fixtures scheduled. The semi-professional leagues below do not play on the weekend between Christmas and New Year. Liga Meu Super (2nd Division) Chaves 0 - 1 Portimonense att. 1115 Farense 0 - 1 Leiria att 1406 A welcome win for Portimonense up in the far north-east, after five consecutive defeats. They are now off the bottom of the table, for now, with 15 points from 15 games. The team below them plays tonight and will go above them if they win. The relegation struggle is well under way. Only four points separate the team in 9th from the team at the bottom in 18th place. Portimonense have no game next weekend, that one has been moved to 11th January. Farense drop to 10th and are one of the numerous teams being sucked into the battle against relegation. They have 19 points from 15 games. Farense do play next weekend, up at strugglers Paços de Ferreira on Sunday. Then comes the local derby at home against Portimonense on Saturday night, 3rd January. Campeonato de Portugal (4th Division) First Phase Group D results for Algarve teams Malveira 2 - 1 Louletano Alcochetense 1 - 0 Lagoa Moncarapachense 0 - 1 Elvas Portimonenese B 2 - 1 Sintrense Not a good day for the Algarve! Louletano drop to 5th, they have 19 points from 13 games. Lagoa are 9th on 17 points, Portimonense are one place below on 16 points and Moncarpachense 12th on 12 points. The middle of this league is tight, with four points separating 4th from 11th. This league now has two weeks off, fixtures resume on 10th January. Algarve League Division One First Phase Louletano B 1 - 0 Silves Messinense 0 - 2 Imortal Albufeira Quarteirense 2 - 0 FC Os Armacanenses Ferreiras 2 - 2 Odiáxere Culatrense 1 - 3 FC Os 11 Esperanças Lagos 1 - 1 Olhanense Imortal (31 points) now have a five point lead over Ferreiras and Quarteirense. Ferreiras were two-nil down to their visitors then fought back with a penalty and a scrambled equaliser after a goalkeeper's fumble. No games next weekend. Algarve League Division Two First Phase Group 1 - final round of matches Mentes Desporto 3 - 2 Carvoeiro United Portimonense SC 2 - 0 Alvor Monchique 1 - 3 Bensafrim Carvoeiro United finished top with 24 points from 10 games, four ahead of Portimonense SC. Alvor finished third. Those three go into the top group for the second phase. They are joined by Mentes Desporto, as one of the best fourth placed teams across the three groups. Group 2 - final round of matches Paderne 3 - 2 Guia Lagoa B 1 - 2 Quarteira SC Campinense 2 - 1 Internacional Almancil Quarteira SC, Internacional Almancil and Guia qualify for the second phase top group, as do Lagoa B as a better fourth placed team. Group 3 - final round of matches Marítimo Olhanense 0 - 0 FC 4 ao Cubo Sambrasense 4 - 2 Sport Faro e Benfica Lusitano VRSA, Sambrasense and Sport Faro e Benfica go through into the top group. According to one website FC 4 ao Cubo do also, but since they won only one game I can't see how. I don't know when the second phase gets under way. It won't be next weekend. WOMEN'S FOOTBALL National League Second Division second phase - relegation group Amora 3 - 1 Guia The first game of this 14 game programme. They don't play again until 10 January. National League Fourth Division first phase group M Olhanense 1 - 1 Seixal Ferreiras 6 - 1 Barreirense Two rounds remaining in this first phase. Ferreiras are top, with 15 points from six games, Lusitano Évora are second also with 15 points but a lower goal difference. Olhanense are bottom, they have two points. They resume on 4th January. |
