For the obsessive carnivores out there, a new steak restaurant has opened opposite The Cavern pub, called Porta 7. Not surprisingly at 7, Rua do MFA. Specialising in expensive steaks - well, expensive by my backstreet Portuguese standards - €17 to €19, and having no chicken, fish or pork (except expensive bifanas) on the menu, and one veggie option (lasagne) it wont be any good for me as the missus pretty much only eats chicken, fish or veggie grub. The restaurant is upstairs, just 22 covers, and is beautifully decorated. I would give it a try like a shot if it wasn't for the menu. Which is the whole point of a restaurant really...  |

That's exactly what we all thought Claire. Don't blame them, though there are high standards to live up to. The décor is a cut above O Manjar, so a good start, but it's what's on the plate that you live n die by.

No, they re-fitted it as a bar with a few tables and are now calling themselves a snack bar, not doing the steaks anymore.

I tried it out, all very stylish. Tables upstairs, close together. Small and "intimate" very much a dining experience rather than just dinner. Trying to be fine dining but the place is so small, a bottle of craft beer in an ice bucket was a bit ott for me. Steak OK, but no O Manjar. I have had to travel to O Farnel for that.
