LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES

Liga Betclic

Farense 0 - 1 Gil Vicente att.4761. A narrow defeat made worse by the fact that the only goal was an own goal scored in the second minute of added time at the end. But by then, Farense had been playing twenty-two minutes with ten men following a sending off. That and other results puts them back to the bottom of the league, with nine points from their fourteen games.  Next up for them is a trip on Saturday afternoon up to Famalicão.  Famalicão are currently 8th.

Liga Meu Super

Tondela 2 - 0 Portimonense att. 1342 Portimonense are 16th of 18 teams, having 13 points from their 14 games. But only three points separate 12th from 17th. Next game will be at home on Saturday, ko 1400hrs and the visitors will be Académico Vizela, way up north. They are currently 6th in the table.

Campeonato de Portugal First Phase Group D
Results and fixtures for Algarve teams

Operário Lisboa 1 - 1 Louletano
Moura 2 - 1 Lagoa
Estrela Vendas Novas 0 - 1 Moncarapachense

Moncarpachense go up into 3rd place, while Louletano are 6th followed a long way behind by Lagoa in 7th.

The Algarve teams have no games scheduled for the next two weekends. The League resumes as a whole on 5th January.  Lagoa and Moncarapachense will be involved in the Algarve Cup next weekend - see below.

Algarve League Division 1 first phase

Ferreiras 2 - 0 Silves
Lagos 2 - 0 Imortal Albufeira
Moncarpachense B 1 - 2 Portimonense B
Lusitano VRSA 1- 2 Culatrense
Odiáxere 2 - 1 Os 11 Esperanças
Olhanense 0 - 6 Quarteirense

The top of the table now looks like this, with all teams having played 12 of the 22 game first phase. Ferreiras are the team in form. They have not lost since the second week of the season and have won their last three games, which included wins against both those near them at the top.

Portimonense B 27pts
Ferreiras 25pts
Imortal Albufeira 25pts
Quarteirense 22pts
Lagos 21pts
Os 11 Esperanças 20pts

Again, there are no league matches scheduled for the next two weekends, although several teams will be involved in the Algarve Cup this coming Saturday - see below.

Algarve League Division Two first phase
Barlavento (west)

Silves B 1 - 1 Mentes Desporto
Guia 1 - 1 Alvor
Carvoeiro United 6 - 0 ACD Algarvense
Odiáxere B 0 - 2 Lagoa B
Os Armacancenses 1 - 2 Bensafrim

Messinense played 10, points 21

Next round of matches will also be on January 4th.

Algarve Cup Second round
played on Wednesday 11th Quarteirense 3 -1 Louletano

The remaining seven matches are scheduled for Saturday 21st at 1500hrs

Bensafrim v Moncarpachense
Quarteira SC v Os Armacanenses
Imortal Albufeira v Silves
Lagoa v Guia
Sambrasense v Messinense
Odíaxere v Culatrense
Olhanense v Ferreiras

One game to add! Algarve Super Cup

Louletano v Paderne Saturday 21st December at Lagos. Free admission. Why these two escapes me. Neither won anything last season!

Women's Football

National League Division II second phase
Guia are playing in the group that is trying to avoid relegation. First round of the fourteen matches took place last weekend and a good start for Guia with a 3-2 win at Ouriense.

Their next game will be on Saturday 21st at home to Tirense, ko 1500hrs.

National League Division III first phase. Group N

Olhanense  0 - 5 Ferreiras

Ferreiras have finished the first phase in second place, behind Setúbal. Ferreiras will possibly go through to the second phase of the league as one of the three best second placed teams. There are though several contenders in the other groups who have one game more to play. With some of them winning an average of 11 - 0 every week, goal difference will be a factor. Ferreiras have +16, while Leixões in Group E have a ridiculous +101!

I have spotted that one of the Algarve League Second Division teams, ACD Algarvense, has been fined around €1,200 this past month for numerous breaches of the rules, including multiple instances of an obscure rule that relates to the number of 'home-grown' players required in a match day squad. Where is a club like that going to find such a some of money? And they have had six points deducted.

ACD Algarvense clocked up another €530 in fines from their game last Saturday. Someone has deep pockets.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES

First to say that there will be virtually no football to be seen anywhere in the Algarve over the weekend of 28 / 29December!

Liga Betclic

Famalicão 1 - 2 Farense att 3072. Looking at the match statistics,it looks like Farense were outplayed in all departments except the one that really matters! They also 'won' on yellow cards, six against three. An important three points that lifts them off the bottom up into 15th place, but they will drop back to 16th if Estrela Amadora win their game tonight. But it is tight at the bottom. Only five points currently separate 11th from the bottom 18th spot.

Next game for Farense and the only one I can find that will be played in the Algarve next weekend, will be on Sunday 29th December, at home to Vítoria Guimarães, ko 1530hrs.

Liga Meu Super

Portimonense  1 - 1 Académico att. 693 Portimonense sit 16th of 18 teams with 14 points from their 15 games. They don't play again until the 4th January, at the highly unpopular time of 11:00am as demanded by TV.

Campeonato de Portugal first phase Group D

There was only one game last weekend, not involving any of the Algarve teams. No games next weekend. This league resumes on Sunday 5th January.

Algarve League Divisions 1 and 2 first phase.

No games last weekend, with many clubs involved in the Algarve Cup. Also, there will be no games next weekend with the league resuming on 4th January.

Algarve Cup results

Seven matches of the second round were played.

Sambrasense 2 - 3 Messinense
Lagoa 4 - 1 Guia
Olhanense 0 - 2 Ferreiras
Odiáxere 0 - 1 Culatrense
Quarteira SC 2 - 1 Os Armanacenses
Imortal Albufeira 0- 1 Silves
Bensafrim 0 - 6 Moncarapachense

The winners will be joined in the last eight by Louletano, who won their tie a couple of weeks back.

Algarve Super Cup

Louletano 7 - 0 Paderne

Women's Football
National Division Two second phase - relegation group

Guia 1 - 4 Tirsense. Guia are in second place after the first two games. Their next game will be on Sunday 5th January.

National Division Three first phase Group N

Lusintano Évora 4 - 1 Olhanense

Ferreiras had already finished their programme. They finished second behind Setúbal. Olhanense finished bottom with no points. The top team in each group plus the three best second placed teams advance to the championship group in the second phase. Unfortunately for Ferreiras, their goal difference of +16 is vastly inferior to teams who finished second in other groups also with 24 points, so they will be taking part in the Taça Nacional Promoção Feminina in the New Year.
