I’ve looked at the Lagos game but as I’ve not got a car I wouldn’t be able to get back to Faro, but thanks anyway, do you know if there is any pre season friendlies being played? As I understand some leagues haven’t started yet

Information about pre season games is very hard to find. Most local clubs do not have websites. Information is often kept quiet or games played behind closed doors, so that clubs do not have to pay for policing. Imortal Albufeira only use a Facebook page, which I often cannot access as I do not have a Facebook account.

The game at Ferreiras on Sunday afternoon is the only one I know about at this moment.

Missing result from Sunday

Algarve  Super Cup

Ferreiras 2 - 0 Lagos played at the Belavista Stadium in Parchal.

For the real diehards there is an extraordinarily poor video of the entire game at https://afalgarve.pt/ferreiras-conquista-ix-supertaca-algarve-futebol/

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES

Liga BWin

Sporting CP 4 - 0 Portimonense att 29782

A fairly easy win for Sporting, despite having a man sent off just before half-time. Portimonense drop to 5th place, with twelve points from six games. Still above Sporting though.

Benfica are top, with a 100% record, Braga second, Porto third.

Portimonense's next game is on Friday night, 6th September, at home to Chaves ko 20.15hrs.

Liga Sabseg

Leixões 0 - 1 Farense att 2019 Farense are third, 10 points from six games.

Their next game will be at the wildly popular time of 11.00 on Sunday 17th, at home to Vilafranquense, who are currently second, so important points at stake.

Portugal FA Cup 1st round

Results for the Algarve Teams

Ferreiras 2 - 0 Culatrense

I went to that one. Farense were always on top, the visitors managed to disturb the home side's 'keeper not once. A decent crowd for this level, around 300, saw Ferreiras take an early lead when a good ball from midfield set up João Barbosa, whose strength held off a defender and alllowed him to shoot low and hard.  Midway through the first half, visiting defender Nuno Mendonca was sent off for tripping an attacker right on the edge of the area. The free kick was missed, as were several other chances. Ferreiras could easily have been five - nil up at half time.

Here, Culatrense defender Jose Estebainha gets a timely leg in the way.

The second goal came on 32 minutes, Tomas Rodrigues heading across goal over the despairing goalkeeper. Whether or not he meant it, I don't know!

Cultatrense made three substitutions at half time, but that changed nothing. Ferreiras continued to dominate and miss even more chances, Culatrense barely got out of their own half. The last twenty minutes or so was tedious in the extreme!

Lagos 2 - 0 UF Comércio Indústria
Atlético 2 - 5 Olhanense
Juventude Évora 3 - 0 Moncarpachense

Imortal Albufeira and Silves had a bye into round 2 , which is scheduled for the weekend of 1st / 2nd October.  Draw in next posted item.

Portugal FA Cup Second Round Draw for Algarve Teams

A national draw bringing in the Liga 2 teams and requiring some ridiculous journeys for semi- professional teams who probably cannot afford the overnight stays they might need!

Silves v SC Courense They come from the absolute furthest north of Portugal it's possible to be in, 20km from the border with Spain and 635 km from Silves.
CA Pêro Pinheiro (Near Sintra) v Ferreiras
São João de Ver (way up north, near Porto) v Lagos
Olhanense v GD Monte Trigo (from Évora area)
Benfica de Castelo Branco v Farense
Vasco da Gama de Ponta Delgada v Imortal Albufeira (a nice trip to the Azores for our lot)

Matches scheduled for the weekend of 1st / 2nd October

Liga Sabseg

Farense 2 - 1 Vilafranquense att 2584

Farense are now second, 15 points from seven games but four points behind leaders Moreirense.

No game next week for Farense because of the internationals.  On October 2nd they will be away up north in the FA Cup.  Their next home game will not be until Wednesday 19th October, unless perhaps they go through to the 3rd round of the FA Cup which is scheduled for the previous weekend.

Liga 3 South First Phase.

Moncarapachense 1 - 2 FC Oliveira Hospital Moncarapchense are now 11th of 12 teams. They are playing home games at the Olhão stadium. I don't know if that is permanent. I will try to find out.

There are no Liga 3 fixtures scheduled for next weekend and they are out of the Cup, so don't apparently play again until 8th October!

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES

No games last week in the top two divisions of course.

Portimonense, enjoying their best start to the season for ages, travel to mid-table Vizela on Saturday afternoon.

Liga Sabseg

No games, clubs are involved in the FA Cup.

Liga 3

No games last weekend.

FA Cup Second Round

Not a kind draw for most of the Algarve teams. You would think it would be regionalised a little bit, with most teams playing in front of a couple of hundred fans.

Lagos travel to the ends of the earth for a game on Sunday morning at São João Vêr - you can look it up!

Silves will be at home to SC Courense, Sunday 2nd, 1500hrs

Imortal Albufeira are off to the Azores to play CF Vasco da Gama Ponta Delgada on Sunday.

Olhanense v GD Monte Trigo Sunday 2nd 1500hrs

Ferreiras will be away, at CA Pêro Pinheiro, up near Sintra.

ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION ONE

First matches

Guia 0 - 1 Almancil
Quarteirense 1 - 1 Lagoa
Louletano 5 - 0 Culatrense
Odiáxere 1 -1 Silves

Next Saturday at 1700hrs / 5pm

Culatrense v Odiáxere
Lagoa v Lusitano VRSA
Almancil v Quarteirense
Louletano v Os 11 Esperanças at the Algarve Stadium. Should make for an interesting atmposphere!
Quarteira SC v Guia

I’m over in The Algarve next week and might try to persuade the lads I’m with to break away from the bars to go to what I believe is a local derby between Ferreiras and Imortal.

I’ve been to Estadio De Nora a few times watching Sheffield Wednesday pre season so know of the facilities and everything but would there be any problems getting tickets / paying to enter with it being a local derby.

Is there any trouble between these too team when they meet?

Cheers for any info anyone can share.

I shall be there. Pay on the gate, but don't what locals do and turn up one minute before kickoff (or, worse, 20 minutes after) as there will be fairly decent crowd and there might be a bit of a queue. You obviously know the bar will be open.

No trouble, not with at least three armed police inside the ground to keep law and order.

Does anyone know of any amateur football teams near Vilamoura that someone can easily join? Or have any contacts? I'm moving out to Quinta Do Lago next week and was hoping to join a club.
