Moncarapachense will be playing in Liga 3 next season. Fixtures will be announced on 22nd July. They will have some very long journeys! The other teams are confirmed as FC Oliveira Hospital, Académica Coimbra (how the mighty have fallen!), UD Leiria, Caldas (da Rainha) SC, Alverca North of Lisbon),
and in or near Lisbon GD Fontinhas , Sporting CP B, Real SC, CF Os Belenenses, Amora
FC and Vitória Setubal FC. But there will be only 22 games in the first phase, followed by playoffs. A long and spread out season, they won't be playing every week. Season allegedly begins 13th August and does end until 11th June for those involved in the convulted series of playoffs for promotion. The Campeonato de Portugal, Division Four if you will, starts on 18th September. That will be preceded by the First Round of the FA Cup on September 11th. Imortal Albfeira, Ferreiras, Olhanense and Lagos will be in that one. Date for fixture announcement not yet known. Those in the hunt for promotion will be playing until 4th June. The Taça da Liga (League Cup) will be played while the top two Divisions are shut down for the corruption World Cup. The teams for the Taça da Liga are required to be mostly under 23s, but at least there will be some football to be watched at Portimonense and Farense while the world's eyes are on FIFA officials making obscene amounts of money. The Algarve League Division One will begin on 24th September and end with the final phase two games on 3rd June, Division Two will be begin on 1st October and end on 27th May. The Algarve Cup Final is provisionally scheduled for 13th May but will be moved if a team from the national leagues is involved. I would expect fixtures to be announced late August. There are also two 'Supertaça' matches (League winners v Cup winners) in the schedule. The 2019 / 2020 Supertaça will be on Sunday 4th September, the 2021 / 2022 match on Thursday 5th October.

Moncarapachense will start their Liga 3 season with a trip to Sporting B, to be played on their training ground in the middle of nowhere.

The new season for Guia ladies, in National League 2, will begin on 11th September. In yet another re-organisation, the ten teams in each group, north and south, will play each other once in a first phase. That ends mid December. In the New Year, the top four from each group will play for promotion to the top division, while the others will play a second phase to stay in Division 2.

In a move to 'improve the game' the Portugal referee's association has recommended that time allowance for a substitution is increased from 30 to 45 seconds, that players being substituted must leave the field at the nearest point and that there should be harsher sanctions against goalkeepers wasting time. That means I will never get my 5 o'clock bus after an Imortal home game. They already last nearly two hours. The last one is of particular nonsense value considering that the 'six second' rule is almost completely ignored. Yellow card for holding onto the ball for seven seconds? I think not. And also goalkeepers are now allowed out of the penalty area with the ball in their hands when kicking - watch any game!

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES
Liga Bwin Portimonense 0 - 1 Boavista att 2590. Not a good start! Next game is on Monday night 15th August, away at the furniture capital to face Paços de Ferreira. Liga Sabseg Farense 2 -1 Torreense att 1557. Saturday morning football as popular as ever! Farense took the lead midway through the first half, visitors equalised in the sixth minute of added time at the end, but Fergie time obviously applied for Farense, whose winner came with the last kick of the game after 11 minutes of time added. Only seven yellow cards. Come on, ref! Next game for Farense is next Saturday afternoon, away to Estrela Amadora at the Benfica training ground (?). Liga 3 gets under way the weekend after next. Still no sign of the fixtures for the Campeonato de Portugal, in which Imortal Albufeira take part. Due to begin 18th September, preceded by the first round of the FA Cup on the weekend of 10th and 11th. |

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES Liga Bwin Paços de Ferreira 0 - 3 Portimonense att 2661 The furniture men played most of the game with ten men after an early red card, but it took Portimonense until the last few minutes to make the game safe, two late goals did the trick. There were eight yellow cards dished out in addition to the red, typical game here! Portimonense will be at home next Sunday night, ko 20.30hrs, visitors Vítoria Guimarães. Liga Sabseg Estrela Amadora 1 - 1 Farense att 821 Next weekend Farense get the unpopular Saturday morning slot once again, ko 11.00hrs against Viseu. I hope the TV money is worth it. Liga 3 gets going next weekend. The Algarve's sole representative, Moncarapachense, are off to play Sporting B on Saturday.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES
Liga BWin Portimonense 2 - 1 Vìtoria Guimarães att 3032 Portimonense needed an 88th minute winner in what became a fairly tetchy game at the end, with six bookings in the last ten minutes. Portimonense are in 5th place with six points from three games played. Next Saturday they travel to Madeira to play Marítimo Liga Sabseg Farense 2 - 2 Viseu att 2411 One red card, five yellow and a late equaliser for Farense who are now 7th with five points from three games. Their next game is on Monday evening away up at Mafra, just the other side of Lisbon. Liga 3 Sporting B 2 - 3 Moncarapachense a good start for the Algarve's only team at this level. Their game next weekend is on Saturday at home to Fontinhas, ko 1700hrs. |

What an utter shambles. Portimonense ticketing arrangements are total farce. General public tickets not available. I mean literally hundreds of supporters being turned away. Ground half full, Ticket office had two staff. Queues and disgruntled supporters getting very vocal. Supporters with membership being routinely waved away.
Went to the first game against Boavista and exactly the same shambles. Tinpot. |

They will probably get fined by the League. Farense had similar problems at their last home game and were slapped with a €575 fine for ticketing failures. A bit of a surprise that 3,000 managed to get in which is rather more than the average.

Portimonense have been fined €418 for not properly searching spectators for 'pyrotechnics' i.e flares which were brought into the stadium by visiting supporters. The visiting club, Vìtoria Guimarães, have been fined a little over €5,000 in total for the throwing of said flares by their supporters, for a pitch invasion, throwing of plastic bottles and assorted other misdemeanours including damage to seats and fences.

Am I correct in thinking that this "searching" of supporters is done by local volunteers or staff and not by the police as they will have minimum cover due to costs?
