IMORTAL 0 - 2 SINTRENSE
A very poor performance by Imortal. They didn't manage a single attempt on goal during the first half and it wasn't until too late that some sense of urgency came about, but which still yielded only one shot on target, a low curler from Walter Alves that the 'keeper tipped around the post. In fact the first half was devoid of any meaningful action, apart from the first goal scored by Henrique Henriques in the 11th minute. Gonçalo Guido twisted and turned the Imortal defence, had a fairly tame low shot from the edge of area but, inexplicably, Inacio spilled it leaving Henriques with an easy finish. Sintrense were happy to control the game in midfield, they too rarely troubled the Imortal defence, apart from the goal of course. When Imortal did have an opportunity, the midfield duo of Baiao and Rodrigo Silva contrived to lose the ball far too easily. Passes were poor, the long ball down the left wing far too often finding an opponent. At the end of the 45 minutes + 2, there had been a sum total of two shots on goal and one corner, from both teams. Changes were needed by Imortal! Baiao and Silva were both subbed at half time, being replaced by Walter Alves and Mica Silva, the latter confusingly wearing number 28 which wasn't what he wore for the first two games. Imortal nearly went two behind in the opening moments of the second half, Floro bravely heading a shot off the line. The lead was doubled 9 minutes into the second period. Down the right wing, Adilson Cabral skipped past back-pedalling defenders and slipped the ball through to Tiago Rodrigues, who made no mistake with fierce drive from just inside the area. That did spur Imortal into some kind of life. Our Cabral, Diogo, had some good runs down the right, but his crosses were not seized upon by those in the middle. The Sintrense goalkeeper went down midway through the half. Off trotted the players to the half way line for water, despite the efforts of the referee trying to apply the injunction that they must stay put as the goalkeeper had not been fouled. The goalkeeper was claiming cramp, very strange since he had hardly touched the ball or had to move. The referee also failed to apply the edict that if the goalkeeper goes down and requires 'treatment', an outfield player must go off for a minute at least. Anyway, to make things even stranger, after that two minute stoppage, the referee called the water break (it was 32º) after half an hour, barely seven minutes after the previous stoppage. This weird timing matched that at the Ferreiras FA cup match the previous weekend. It seems here that when it's hot, the water breaks are called 30 minutes into each half. Crowd bemused. Once play resumed, Imortal did have a few moments. Nascimento had a long range effort blocked, by a hand he said, referee disagreed. Cabral had another good run, but once again it came to nothing. Sintrense were well in control. A slightly dodgy free kick, on corner of the penalty area, went Imortal's way with five minutes of normal time remaining. Coelho sent it just over the bar. Seven minutes added time were announced. Imortal won three quick corners from blocked and deflected crosses, but again no-one could meet the ball. Then came Alves effort, followed by two more corners, but still nothing doing. The seven minutes were up, it was just turning 7 o´clock and went the final whistle. Joy amongst the dozen or so who had come down from Sintra, silence from the majority! Next Sunday Imortal travel to the Lisbon area to play Alcochetense. That will be followed on Sunday 20th by a home FA Cup match against Liga 2 side Tondela. Imortal Team : Inacio; Pina, Dias, Lopes, Floro; Nascimento, Cabral, Baiao, Pimenta; R, Silva, Duarte. Subs used : Prates, Coelho, Alves, M. Silva and Silveira (aka Nandim) Match statistics Free kicks conceded : Imortal 8, Sintrense 14 (I don't think we got near enough to them!) Offside : Imortal 1, Sintrense 0 Shots on Target : Imortal 1, Sintrense 5 Shots off Target : Imortal 2, Sintrense 3 Shots blocked : Imortal 1, Sintrense 1 Corners : Imortal 7, Sintrense 4 Yellow cards : Imortal 0, Sintrense 2 |
