A vital win for Portimonense that propelled them from 16th to 11th place in the table. Their cause was helped by the opposition having two players sent off before half time. They are now one point above Farense. There are two games tonight. Depending on the results, both Algarve teams could drop down a couple of places.

So tight is this league table that only six points separate 6th place from the bottom 18th place.

Next Sunday, Portimonense will be at home to Feirense (13th) at 11:00. Farense travel to Torreense, who are in 9th place.

Not a good day for the Algarve. Portimonense are in 15th, Farense 16th and both too close to the relegation zone. Farense are on the slide having gone five matches since their last win. The bottom of the table is still fairly close, with 5 points separating 13th from 18th.

AF Algarve, Regions Cup winners!

Not much to report as the Algarve League programme was postponed for the national UEFA Regions Cup qualifiers. As reported elsewhere, the Algarve FA representative team won the final on penalties. They will go forward into the next round against the winners from England, Sweden and Finland. To be played during the autumn.

Marítimo 0 - 1 Farense att. 7298 a winner for Farense in 90+2 minutes and a vital three points. They currently stand 15th of 18 teams, on above Portimonense who play tonight and who will go above them if they win. But it is still very tight at the bottom. Only five points separate the bottom eight teams.

Not a good weekend for the Algarve!

Farense opened the scoring in the first minute, a goal by Australian born striker Anthony Carter. He's been around, having played in Romania, Thailand and Australia. Signed from Santa Clara in January. It was 1-1 at half time. All went wrong after that! Farense lost a player to a red card two minutes into the second half. Said player, Candeias, had only come on at half time as a sub. Denied a goal scoring opportunity. Leixões scored the resulting penalty.

In their game, Portimonense were two-one up at half time then lost their way, conceding three before scoring their third in added time.

Those results leave Portimonense in 15th place, they have 24 points from 22 games, as do Farense one place below them.  They will both drop one more place if bottom club Penafiel win their game tonight. Paços de Ferreira are also just one point below the Algarve's teams and have a game in hand. it is still very tight at the bottom of the table. Only six points separate 9th from 18th.

Farense travel to the far north to meet Chaves, who are in a poor run of form and sit 13th in the table on 27 points.

Louletano rise to third place, but are four points off the two places for the second phase qualification. Lagoa are in mid table 7th, while Moncarpachense and Portimonense B are now down into the relegation zone. There are eight games remaining.

Ferreiras are in second place with 7 points from 4 games, two behind leaders Sintrense who have a game in hand.

Next Sunday Ferreiras are due to travel to Coimbra. However, with that area very badly affected by floods, it remains to be seen whether that one will go ahead.
