Has all the rain in this month helped the drought situation at all? I was reading in November that it was the worst of the last 100 years! |

By all reports, the country is not out of the woods yet with regard to getting the reservoirsback to their normal levels. Probably need a bit more rain to sort this out.

Most of the rain down here simply runs off into drains, efforts to capture it are very poor I am afraid to say. Fifty or a hundred years ago the cisterns would have been full, now they are neglected as water comes out of pipes doesn't it? A couple of weeks ago the situation was still pretty dire in many regions, it should have improved by now.
A few days ago this doom and gloom item was published by a noted academic. On a drive out to AdP several of the roadside fields we passed were flooded and underwater, we've never seen that before.

Yes I guess the dreaded climate change is to blame !
Hope there is more rain for the farmers and it stops just in time for our visit in four weeks time ! But that’s what everyone wants 😊 |

Whenever there is heavy rain as we have had this past month, those fields get flooded. Obviously you have not been looking!!!!! |

Fields may be flooded, but the water is not saved. Even so, the percentage of extreme drought has reduced from 75% in October 2017 to just 1.3% in February.
83% of the country was said to be in a condition of severe drought as of 28th February. We shall have to wait a few days before the figures are updated. Information is at https://www.ipma.pt/pt/oclima/observatorio.secas/ |
