The high cost of flights will affect how many tourists visit Albufeira (doh). We usually visit at least twice each year (for a week at a time) and sometimes three times if we can get cheap flights. This year we are coming over only once as the price of getting to Albufeira is prohibitive. We were looking at coming over late September but a return flight for two people was over £300. Now in the scheme of things this is not that expensive but for a second "cheapie" holiday it is. So in future it looks like we will revert to one holiday in heaven each year but will revert to going for an extended one rather than two or three short ones.
Does anyone else visit for more that a fortnight?

Normally do between 3 & 5 weeks at a time - luckily we're retired. Have been doing 5 trips a year but this year it's only 4 because of the flight & associated travel costs. Looks like we might be down to 3 trips next year if these flight costs are anything to go by - hate to think how much summer 2014 costs will be if you've got to pay £80 each for a one way flight in November. |

Hi
Glasgow to Faro easyJet reasonable outbound price on 24th December but to return it's almost £190 each! Patiently awaiting to see what Ryanair come in at when they go on sale...surely they've got to beat that?
Prices definitely on the up!

Easyjet have announced their winter Bristol-Faro flight dates. They only go up till March 2nd 2014. Thats a bit early for us, so am waiting for Ryanairs to be released.
Have been told on the Ryanair site they would be released beginning of April. Then it was mid April. Then it was imminent Seems no one knows. Have registered for Ryanairs e-mail alerts, and been logging on to the site at least 4 times a day every day. Would any Abers flying Ryanair in the next few days/weeks see if they can find out any info from Ryanair staff. TAI

On the topic of Easyjet, who we normally use for our flights to Faro. I noticed today that Thomas Cooke holidays are using Easyjet for their holidays from Belfast to the Algarve. Flight prices for us have increased, even when booking early. Is it my suspicious mind or are Thomas Cooke getting the cheapest seats prior to them going on sale for the rest of us.........thus pushing prices up?

Easyjet prices are fluctuating like mad at the moment. I've been checking Palma prices for the last week, they started off at £135 return for August, next day they were up to £160 and last night they were down to £128 and this morning they are back up to £145!!

Booked 2 retun flights on Monday to fly this coming Tuesday with Ryanair from Manchester.
Fly 7:30 pm after work return Sunday afternoon, £75 each. Very happy with that since we didn't even think about going till my wife suggested on Sunday morning we should get a few days away. Love a last minute bonus trip:-) Already got next month all booked and planned! |

well done Simon , we fly next Friday and paid a lot more than that. When we looked to book beginning of March they kept increasing the flights to silly prices and we waited and waited until they came down again and then booked. My worst nightmare was going online last week to check prices,
could have cried, needed to open a bottle of vinho to kill the shock of it all. End of day they are still cheaper than Monarch & Jet2 so that's a saving grace & of course we are spending the kids inheritance there's no pockets in shrouds.

New cabin baggage rules on easyJet.
EasyJet has announced a 'guaranteed'
cabin baggage allowance which is 37 per cent below the maximum size
allowed - because its packed planes can't always fit passengers' luggage
on-board. The budget
airline currently allows luggage to be taken into the cabin if it’s
below the maximum size of 56cm by 45cm by 25cm – a total of 63 litres
per bag. This will continue to be the maximum cabin allowance. But from July 2, easyJet is cutting the dimensions for baggage that is guaranteed for the cabin down to 50cm by 40cm by 20cm – including handles, pockets and wheels – to a total of just 40 litres. There is no weight limit on cabin baggage. |

Dicey
How does that work then? Are they saying you might have to pay for what you took with you as cabin baggage. Or just that it might be put in the hold? Don`t use Easyjet use Ryanair but there is one thing for certain Mr. O`Leary will be looking to do the same if there`s a charge in it. |

They're saying that you can take a bag measuring 56cm by 45cm by 25cm for no charge (as is the situation now) but if there are too many cabin bags for the space available (which is often the case) then your hand luggage will be put in the hold (at no charge). However, if you have a bag measuring 50cm by 40cm by 20cm then you have a gaurantee that your hand luggage with not be put in the hold. The crazy things about this move are - 1. It would not be necessary if they didn't charge so much for hold baggage as people would be more inclined to pay for hold baggage if it was a more reasonable cost (or free) and they wouldn't have the problem of everyone taking large bags into the cabin. 2. So under this new system you have pay to have hold baggage in the hold but you don't have to pay to have oversize cabin baggage in the hold. So what happens when everyone has the smaller cabin bag size & there's still not enough room in the overhead lockers. What will happen to their gaurantee then I wonder The email I received - On today's busy flights, overhead locker space on board our aircraft is limited, which means we're not always able to fit everyone's cabin bag on board and some bigger bags have to be put in the hold. So to make things fair for all our customers, we're introducing a CABIN BAG GUARANTEE on all flights from the 2 July 2013 onwards.
You can continue to bring ONE slightly bigger cabin bag, free of charge, up to the current maximum size of 56 x 45 x 25cm including handles and wheels, but on some busy flights this may have to go into the hold. |
