Well said and done. Mods will keep an eye on this one. Reasonable debate only,plus of course any specific observations and information about how a 'no' vote will affect resident ex-pats and those who UK based and who own property here.

If and when anyone here finds out how us ex-pats get to cast our vote on June 23rd, please inform.

Chatting with Clive Jewell on FB and don't think we can vote in a referendum. Been here over 15 yrs so can't vote in uk general elections and not allowed to vote in Portuguese system.

You could apply for Naturalisation which would enable you to vote in Portuguese elections.Cant have it both ways there are thousands of 16/17 yr olds here who cant vote.

Dicey, thanks for info, all noted and respect to you for that but... there are other stronger comments on here so I'm glad Tom's confirmed the 'mods' will monitor closely.
It sure is a tough one to debate and I'm sure we are going to get some scary stories, in both directions, over the next few months.
I wonder if postal voting will be available for those who will be away from home on June 23rd.

Sorry, had a politician moment and lied. If away from uk for more than 15 yrs can't vote. Thank God they dont let 16 & 17 yr olds vote!

EU Referendum - Further details and how to register to vote

As you maybe aware the UK Referendum on whether the UK should remain or leave the EU will take place on 23rd June 2016. This is a vitally important day in determining the countries future, and therefore people are encouraged to vote..

For further details and applying to register to vote please visit GOV UK website https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

If you are unable to register on-line the download the application forms here. and send by post.

UK nationals who have been registered to vote in the UK within the last 15 years can register as an overseas elector, to be able to vote in UK Parliamentary General Elections, UK-wide referenda, and European Parliamentary elections.

Please note that the deadline for application for registration of to vote in the EU Referendum has not yet been set, so it is advised that those wishing to do so,should take action as soon as possible.

Still not sure how to vote in this one. Most likely I will vote to remain, simply because the EU protect us with its Human Rights Laws and Workers protection Laws which given the chance our ultra right wing Tory Government would love to abolish. However my doubts come when you see how the EU treats "Its Partners" like Greece who elected a left wing government which the EU don`t approve of and basically they shafted the people of Greece. ( I know Greece had lived beyond its means for many years, but what the EU did was awful) Would similar stuff happen if say Portugal or any other small country found itself in trouble ?

real question might be ... where would Portugal, Spain and Greece have been if NOT in the EU .... I think we all know the answer to that one.

Im Portuguese and been living in teh Uk for 16 years now,don't know how the out vote would affect me that hasn't really been explained yet... Here in the Uk the supporters of the out vote Such as Ian Dunacn Smith,Michael Gove or boris Johnson argue that Britain would be ina  strong position to do better business deals my question is what is to negociate really as over the years Politicians managed to kill a big part of things like Industry manufacturing etc etc and sold for example the energy company to Foreign companies...

Cannot argue with any of that Luis. The main thing the UK has is financial services, a big part of that success is access to the EU via London. If that goes there's a big danger a lot of overseas (non EU)trade will go to Frankfurt...

One of the big dangers of the vote is that it is been seen by many as a vote on immigration, without looking at the wider implications of membership of the EU, wether it is beneficial or not for the whole of the UK
