Slavia Prague 3-3 Aarhus today at sunny Albufeira Municipal. An excellent, well-fought game which the local referee allowed to flow nicely. Eventually the players cottoned on that he wasn't falling for the squealing and histrionics. Each team awarded one point for the draw.

The Atlantic Cup requires a winner, so they have a penalty shootout to decide the third point. Aarhus took it by 4-2, Slavia hoofing one into the newly planted trees, with the Danish keeper  saving a second.

Up to Ferreiras tomorrow evening to see the final two teams [Hacken and Valerenga] in action.

Will leave Cubsur to pass comment on Imortals fruitless trip to darkest Faro. Cry

Good game at Ferreiras between two enthusiastic debutant teams. Scandinavians impressing with their attitudes, no rolling around or feigning injury or screaming for free-kicks. In fact in total there was just one call for the physios to get involved.
Hacken 1-2 Valerenga.
Not much between them is the first half, Hacken scored midway through with a crisp finish to lead. The Norwegians changed seven of their team at halftime and the subs took over the game. Two cracking left footed strikes from 20 yards, into the top corner, gave them the win. Hacken battled to the end, but no more joy for them.

Back across to Albufeira later today for a double header in Group A.

Well, that's Group A done …..

Copenhagen 0-0  Norrkoping.Sleepy Not much happened at all really. The third point went to the Swedes as their keeper pulled off three penalty saves in the shootout.

Astana 2-1  Brondby.Clap Bit of a surprise result but Brondby seemed to start a very young eleven this evening. Much better game generally with chances missed at both ends throughout.

So Copenhagen, with 4pts finished top. Astana and Brondby 3 [Danes second on goal difference] then Norrkoping bottom with 2.

Tomorrow sees Group B finish in the cavernous Estadio Algarve. From sometime on Wednesday the Cup website will update with the playoff pairings/venues etc to be played Friday and Saturday.

Cubsur has beaten me to the Algarve Cup today, but yesterdays final Group B games went as follows.....

Aarhuis 2-0  Hacken. Two goals in the first quarter settled this game. Hacken couldn't quite raise enough of a gallop to upset the Danes, who were in control throughout.

Valerenga 1-3  Slavia Prague. The earlier score left Valerenga knowing that a win would take them to this years Final. It didn't happen, Slavia were in a feisty mood, competing furiously for every ball. The Norwegians went behind early but equalised on ht thanks to a penalty awarded [I think] for handball. Both teams were pumped up for the second half and there were two or three skirmishes which would have seen red cards issued on non-Friendly days. Slavia deserved the win, which came in the last ten minutes via a glancing header from a corner and a breakaway with almost the last kick.

FC Copenhagen v AGF Aarhus 7th February 2020

This is what they were playing for. pity there were no more than 50 people watching. It was a fairly decent game, especially towards the end. The only and winning goal of the game was scored two minutes into stoppage time at the end by Aarhus midfielder Mustafa Amini, a good hit from from the edge of the area low and hard to the goalkeeper's left.  He had hit the crossbar with a similar effort a few minutes earlier.

The vastness of the Algarve Stadium.

The teams line up, Aarhus in white.

An early save from Aarhus ´keeper William Eskelinen. There were few chances in the first half.

There were some fairly hefty challenges which the Portuguese referee was unwilling to punish with cards. Certainly if this had been a Portuguese game there would have been several and even in anyone else's league two or three.

Copenhagen's ´keeper Johnsson watches this one go just wide.

Sergio Aguero look-alike Michael Santos had this chance to win it for Copenhagen but his shot was weak.

Mortensen (number 9) had a good chance to win this for Aarhus, but stumbled and lost control at the vital moment.

The ball boy behind the goal was sorely tested by some dreadful shooting.

I didn't catch the goal as it came from among a crowd, but you can see it in the official video highlights at https://www.youtube.com/embed/GPy1QVUMisM - only 2 minutes 25 seconds and shot from ground level!

Other teams have been battling for the minor placings....

This morning at Amondeiras: Brondby 2-0 Slavia Prague. Danish side finish 3rd in front of no fans whatsoever, closed doors arrangements over there.

This evening at Ferreiras, for 5th: Norrkoping 1-2 Valerenga. Lively encounter which Valerenga bossed in the main. Two up after one minute of the second half, a fightback by the Swedes garnered nothing bar a late consolation. Ten substitutions between them on the hour didn't do much for the games flow, but an entertaining match.

One last fixture, for 7th, at Estadio Algarve tomorrow ….. kickoff 3pm.

All done and dusted now …. for 7th place, played at Estadio Algarve …. Hacken 2-1 Astana.

The Khazaks had the dubious distinction of managing to get a player sent off.

Later this evening at EA, 4th place Slavia Prague finished their trip with a 4-2 win over Hammarby [Sweden], in a 'real' Friendly.
