Can anyone advise me on how I can watch Portuguese TV channels when I am over in the UK. I am trying to learn the language and thought it would help me if I could watch films that had Portuguese sub titles

RTP broadcast all their programmes on line but whether these are available to a UK IP address I don't now. The only way to find out is to try.
http://www.rtp.pt/play/direto is the web page. Likewise the other national free to air terrestrial channels TVI and SIC. There are numerous websites offering Portuguese TV streaming. Do a search for "Portuguese TV streaming" then try different sites that are listed to see which is best. Some may have poor picture quality, some will plague you with adverts or ask you to sign up for spurious 'accounts' which will practically destroy your computer or mobile with even more adverts and worse. Be watchful. All the channels broadcast imported US and UK TV series in English with Portuguese sub titles as I am sure you know, but unfortunately their programming is often more commercials than actual show. The subscription film channels like TVC, that show films without breaks, might be available if you look hard enough.

I watch Portuguese TV occasionally, using a jail broken Apple TV box. You can find them on eBay. There seems to be fewer channels available of late but you still get most.
