One owner car: We bought it brand new directly from Peugeot Portugal. Very low mileage for year: 180.000 kms (from September 2002) Diesel and ultra economic: under 4,9l/100Kms. Mechanically: Very well cared for. Very small annual tax. 3.900 euros Nice estate features: tailgate window opening separately; rear seats (1/3, 2/3) folding completely. Some small aesthetics dents, dings and marks. For sale because we bought... another (newer) 206 SW ! Service is due in just a few kms; will be sold with a new service already done (good quality oil and all filters). [pics on request] If you value aesthetics less than mechanical condition, usage, driveability and economy, this estate may be for you! |

Nearly 4 grand for a 15 year old car with over 110,000 miles on the clock
The second hand car market in Portugal is a complete mystery to me |

I hate how peopleï compare Frank Zappa to God. I mean, he's cool and great and nice and everything, but he's no Zappa.

It isn't just second hand Dicey, truck up at Ford Faro, ask for a best price on a new bog standard mid range Fiesta, and make sure you are sitting down! I think, this was a few years back, that was absolute finite confirmation for us that the "Common Market" was a total myth!
At the time one of our daughters was buying exact same in U.K., in Portugal it was 50% more expensive! Exact same, a multi national, Ford, selling in two European countries but what was £14k in U.K. was £21k in Portugal! |

Here you go, same model, a year newer (2003), 128,000 miles, £695 or approx 815 Euros
So the price in Portugal is 4.78 x the UK price. That cannot be right. http://www.parkers.co.uk/peugeot/206/sw/14-xt-5d-(ac)/for-sale/usedcfs-246394539481469/ |

Agreed.
Apologies, I've just been told my above post reads as a criticism of Ford, it isn't, that was just my specific experience/example of across the board comparrisons. |

Hi DaceyUK,
Your point, a quite valid one, IMHO, is an "Apples with Oranges" issue. Topped up with an "Petrol with Diesel" issue. Just my two euros... Paulo |

A Forum is a great thing to share infos.
The mentioned petrol car, if in Portugal, to have a portuguese plate and to change ownershp, would have a precise fiscal cost of:
Besides all the trouble (CoC, travel, etc.) along with visits to IMT, Alfandega, IMT again, IPO level 2 test, IMT last time and Conservatória (they are up to 7 steps, if all are acomplished at the first visit). (note: This value is not charged if it is your car and you are registering it as such here) Oh... and the headlamps... OH... and the steering wheel... ... just to underline not my asking price but the Apples with Oranges one.

We thought rather than take our car back to UK every year to get tested we would buy a runaround here. Could not believe the prices and could not bring ourselves to pay the prices they are asking.
Think we will just bring our older car from UK and after a year take our chances. Seeing about 40% of the cars over here...normally through black smoke...I find it hard to believe that most of them have seen a test centre for years so if things are the same as UK they will have no other documentation tax/insurance etc. lol

Hi Tonisdad, From what I was told and just for the record, that _one year_ just starts counting when the cops "record" your presence in Portugal for the first time. It's one year from that day onwards because you could have just arrived from the UK, right?! If so, it can be a __very long and peacefull year__. It's a matter of chances. However, after that year you can only register it here or take it back to the UK. No other options. As I mention, you can register yours here, without too many costs if it has belonged to you in the UK for the last 6 months. Check this out. You'll only have a lot of red tape ahead, not much more! Last, for the MoT, the portuguese IPO, or the spanish ITV or any other are all valid here, I was told. I have a french registered motorhome with (valid), french "Contrôle Tecnique" and both for insurance or portuguese police, is fully valid; no issues. Just my " I was told s "... HTH. Regards, Paulo |
