LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES

Liga Betclic

Portimonense 2 - 2 Casa Pia 2 att. 1683
Vítoria Guimarães 1 - 1 Farense att. 19982

A point for Portimonense, but will it be enough? They currently stand 16th of 18 teams, six points clear of automatic relegation. The two teams below played this evening. Bottom club Chaves won, the gap is now five points. Five games remain.

Farense scored in the 9th minute and held out for would have been a famous victory at Guimarães, but a late, late equaliser did for them. They are in tenth place, but only four points ahead of Portimonense, so they cannot afford to lose if others are winning.

Next weekend

Portimonense travel to Famalicão (8th) on Sunday afternoon. Farense have the little matter of a home match against Benfica on Monday night.

Campeonato de Portugal Second Phase

This gets under way on Sunday. The Algarve's representative, Moncarpachense, begin their campaign with an away match with a nice day out to the Azores, to play SC Lusitânia.  Louletano and Imortal Albufeira have finished their season.

ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION ONE Second Phase promotion group - third  matches

Ferreiras 2 - 0 Odiáxere
Lagoa 2 - 1 Quarteirense
Lagos 1 - 0 Silves

Points were carried through from the first phase. Lagoa are 19 points ahead with 7 games to play, so one more win and they are certain to finish top and be promoted to the Campeonato. The rest are also ran, except that the team finishing second is accepted into the Portugal FA Cup. That could be a good race if they are interested. Only three points separate 2nd from 5th in this six team group.

Next Saturday at 1600hrs

Lagos v Odiáxere
Quarteirense v Ferreiras
Silves v Lagoa

Relegation Group

Paderne 4 - 2 Portimonense B
Carvoeiro United 2 -1 Culatrense
Os 11 Esperanças 2 - 0 Lusitano VRSA

Carvoeiro United are bottom on 11 points, nine behind Culatrense. How many get relegated is never known until the start of next season. Depends on teams not folding, new teams forming etc etc.

Next Saturday

Os 11 Esperanças v Carvoeiro United ko 1800hrs
Lusitano VTSA v Portimonense B ko 1600hrs
Culatrense v Paderne ko 1600hrs

BRONZE GROUP B only three teams

Marítimo Olhanense 3 - 1 Alvor

Alvor are top on six points but have played all their games. The remaining match next week, between Mentes Desporto and Marítimo Olhanense, could send the 'title' either way. Mentes Desporto just need to win, Maritimo need to win by at last two goals to overtake Alvor. The head to head between the two is identical, both teams having won 3-1 when they played each other.

The football report will have to wait until this evening as I am involved in the EuropaCopa walking football tournament all day.

Briefly, Farense secured a vital point up at Vítoria Guimarães, while Portimonense drew 2-2 at  home against Casa Pia and remain in 16th place and facing a relegation playoff at least.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEK'S GAMES

LIGA BETCLIC

Chaves 2 - 3 Portimonense att 2120

Vital wins for both the Algarve teams in the struggle to avoid relegation but it's far from over. Farense are 10th on 30 points. Portimonense are 16th (of 18) on 26 points and still in the position where they would require a playoff against the team finishing third in Division Two. They won up at bottom team Chaves with two late goals, despite playing the last half hour with ten men following a red card. There are six games remaining.

Next weekend, Farense travel on Saturday up to Vítoria Guimarães (5th) while Portimonense will be at home to Casa Pia (9th) on Sunday with ko at 1800hrs.

Report this evening, but ahead of that both Farense and Portimonense recorded important wins in the struggle to avoid relegation. Imortal finished their season with a 1-1 draw up in Sintra.

Last weekend's results, next weekend's games

With the Easter holidays stopping all football except for the top two leagues, there is not much to report. Both teams in the top league lost, so it's relegation looming if they don't get a win soon.

LIGA BETCLIC

Arouca 2 -1 Farense att 1127 (there were more at the National League south match at Tonbridge yesterday)
Portimonense 3 - 5 Braga att a paltry 2204. Portimonense were 5-1 down before a late rally made the score a bit more respectable. But that and other results mean they fall to 16th place (of 18 teams) which, if they finished the season there, would mean a playoff against the team that finishes third in the second division. Farense are 13th, four points above the danger zone.

Next matches

Farense v Boavista Friday 5th April ko 2015hrs
Chaves v Portimonense Sunday 7th April ko 1530hrs. Chaves (which is way up north) are bottom of the league. This is one game Portimonense really must win.

Campeonato de Portugal First Phase

Nothing at stake for the Algarve teams in the final weekend of the first phase. Moncarpachense will finish second and qualify for the second phase. Louletano finish in mid table and Imortal Albufeira bottom and relegated.

Matches  - all three Algarve teams will be away.

Sintrense v Imortal Albufeira Saturday 6th April 1600hrs
Juventude Évora v Moncarapachense Sunday 7th April 1600hrs
GD Fabril v Louletano Sunday 7th April 1600hrs

Very little to report on this morning. The semi professional leagues do not play over the Easter weekend. In the Liga Betclic, Farense lost agan, 2-1 up at Arouca, to continue their slide towards the relegation places. They now stand 13th, with 27 points from 27 games and four points above the dotted line. Portimonense, who are currently 16th, play Braga tonight. I shall do a full update tomorrow including next weekend's fixtures.

Promotion certainly would not have been allowed. But it is an inexplicable loss of form. The same group of players are out there. The others do have more to play for, that's certain.

If Imortals B team had maintained form to win their Division Tom, would they have been allowed promotion given the first teams presence in Div1?

Could account for their fall-away perhaps.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES

No game in the top league last weekend of course. Next weekend both Farense and Portimonense are going to be in dire need of points to avoid dropping in to the relegation zone.  Next Saturday afternoon Farense travel up north to the little town of Arouca, who are currently seventh.  Portimonense will be at home on Monday night, 1st April, with Braga the visitors, ko 2015hrs. Braga are fourth and hoping for a place in European competition next season.

NOTE FOR EASTER - semi professional leagues do not play over the Easter holiday weekend. The only match in the Algarve will be Portimonense v Braga on Monday night, 1st April, ko 2015hrs.

CAMPEONATO DE PORTUGAL FIRST PHASE GROUP D

Results for Algarve teams

Imortal Albufeira 1 - 2 VdeG Vidigueira
Moncarapachense 1 - 1 Barreirense
Louletano 4 -1 Oriental Lisboa

That was the penultimate round of matches in the first phase.  Already decided, Moncarapachense will join winners Vítoria Setubal in the second phase promotion and championship round that starts in mid  April.  Imortal were long since doomed to relegation and will be joined in the downfall by Real SC and the aforementioned Oriental Lisboa. The remaining two relegation spots will be decided on the last round of matches on 7th April, with four clubs involved.

GD Fabril Barreiro have 33 points, Serpa 31, V de G 30 and Juventude Évora 29. All kinds of permutations are possible, but Juventude must win to have any chance of avoiding the drop. GD Fabril need just a draw to be safe, they would be above Vasco da Gama on head to head results if points are level and their goal difference is vastly superior to the others. The results between two teams tied on points is the first tie break criterion.

Imortal's final and meaningless match for both, up at Sintra, will be on Saturday 6th April, ko 1600hrs.

The other fixtures, all at 1600hrs on Sunday 7th April, will be :

Juventude Évora (11th) v Moncarapachense (2nd)
Elvas v Vítoria Setubal (a game of no consequence)
Vde G Vidigueira (10th) v Lusitano Évora (3rd)
Oriental Lisboa v Real SC (a grim afternoon no doubt)
Barreirense (5th) v Serpa (9th)
GD Fabril (8th) v Louletano (4th)

ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION ONE SECOND PHASE
First matches Promotion Group

Lagoa 2 - 1 Ferreiras
Silves 1 -1 Odiáxere
Lagos 2 - 0 Quarteirense

With points from phase one carried over, Lagoa are top with 57, a massive 14 points ahead of Odiáxere with the rest currently also rans.

No games next weekend because of the Easter holidays. Next round of matches Saturday 6th April ko 1600hrs

Ferreiras v Lagos
Odiáxere v Lagoa
Quarteirense v Silves

Relegation Group

11 Esperanças 1 - 2 Portimonense B
Lusitano VRSA 1 -1 Culatrense
Paderne 3 -1 Carvoeiro United

With points also carried over, it is the bottom end of the table that is important. Carvoeiro United are doomed, with only 8 points, above them are Culatrense with 17 then Portimonense B on 21.

Next round of matches also on Saturday 6th April at 1600hrs

Paderne v Lusitano VRSA
Portimonense B v Carvoeiro United
Culatrense v Os 11 Esperanças

ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION TWO SECOND PHASE - Third round of matches

Gold (Promotion Group)

Os Armancanenses 1 - 0 Campinense
Moncarpachense B 2 - 1 Imortal Albufeira B
SC Olhanense 4 -1 Guia

Points were not carried over. After three games, Os Armancanenses lead the way with 7 points, then come SC Olhanense and Guia both with 6.

Imortal B's season appears to have go to pot. After sailing through the fiast phase with only one defeat, they have now lost all three in the second phase.

Next matches, Saturday 6th April ko 1800hrs

SC Olhanense 1912 v Imortal Albufeira B
Campinense v Moncarpachense
Guia v Os Armancanenses

Silver group

Sport Faro Benfica 4 -1 Lagoa
Messinense 0 - 1 Sambrasense
Quarteira SC 2 - 0 Ferreiras B

Quarteira SC and Sambrasense are both 100% with 9 points from three games.

Next matches, Saturday 6th April

Messinense v Ferreiras B ko 1800hrs
Lagoa v Quarteira SC ko 1800hrs
Sambrasense v Sport Faro Benfica ko 1600hrs

Bronze group 1

Louletano B 4 - 3 Bensafrim
Odiáxere B 3 - 2  4 ao Cubo

Louletano B have won all three games so far, the others one each.

Next matches Saturday 6th April ko 1800hrs

4 ao Cubo v Louletano B
Odiáxere B v Bensafrim

Bronze group Two only three teams

Marítimo Olhanense 0 - 1 Mentes Desporto

For what it's worth, Mentes Desporto lead having won both their first two games.

Next match Saturday 6th April ko 1800hrs

Alvor v Mentes Desporto although do check as two games in this division were changed at 4 days notice last week.

WOMEN'S FOOTBALL NATIONAL LEAGUE THIRD DIVISION SECOND PHASE SOUTH GROUP

There were no matches last weekend and there will be none next weekend. Guia's successful season resumes on 7th April with a trip to Sintra.

TAÇA FEMININA PROMOÇÃO GROUP I

No game for Ferreiras in the five team group and none next weekend. Their season resumes on Saturday 6th April with a trip to Barreirense.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES

LIGA BETCLIC

Estoril 1 - 0 Portimonense att 1870
Farense 1 -1 Rio Ave att 4713

Portimonense are definitely in the relegation mire. It's now eight games since they last won during which time they have dropped to 16th place and only four points off the bottom.  In their current situation they would face a promotion / relegation playoff against the team that finishes third in the  second division. That would more than likely be one of the two Madeira teams, Nacional or Marítimo. Farense are 12th, with 27 points. They also haven't won for a long time. Only five points separate 8th from 16th place, so the last few weeks of the season are going to be a bit fraught for half the league!

There are no games in the Liga Betclic next weekend, because of Internationals. Next game for Portimonense will be over the Easter weekend at home to Braga, date and time not yet fixed. Farense will travel up north to Arouca.

CAMPEONATO DE PORTUGAL FIRST PHASE GROUP D

Results and fixtures for Algarve teams

Lusitano Évora 3 - 0 Imortal Albufeira
Sintrense 1 - 2 Moncarpachense
Juventude Évora 0 - 1 Louletano

Next Sunday at 1600hrs

Louletano v Oriental Lisboa at the Algarve Stadiium
Imortal Albufeira v Vidigueira
Moncarcpachense v Barreirense

Heads up - there are no games over the Easter weekend.

ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION ONE SECOND PHASE

Despite everything saying there would only be one league phase this season, they are now announcing a second phase! The league has been split into two groups of six with a further round of matches starting next Saturday. Points are carried through from the first phase. All games are shown as a 600hrs kickoff.

Top group

Lagoa v Ferreiras
Silves v Odiáxere
Lagos v  Quarteirense

Second group

Carvoeiro United v Paderne
Os 11 Esperanças v Portimonense B
Lusitano VRSA v Culatrense

There will be no games over the Easter weekend.

ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION TWO SECOND PHASE

Gold Group (Championship and Promotion)

Imortal Albufeira B 0 - 2 Os Armacanenses
Campinense 1 - 2 Guia
Moncarapachense B 0 - 1 SC Olhanense 1912

All going wrong for Imortal B after a very good first phase!

Guia have won both their games so far  and top the league.

Next Saturday at 1800hrs but watch out for changes!

Moncarpachense B v Imortal Albufeira B
Os Armcanense v Campinense
SC Olhanense 1912 v Guia

Likewise no games over Easter.

Silver group

Quarteira SC 3 - 0 Messinense
Ferreiras B 1 - 2 Sport faro Benfica
Lagoa B 2 - 4 Sambrasense

Sambrasense and Quarteira SC are tied at the top, both having won their first two games.

Next Saturday ko 1800hrs

Quarteira SC v Ferreiras B
Sport Faro Benfica v Lagoa B
Messinense v Sambrasense

Bronze group (only three teams)

Alvor 3 -1 Marítomo Olhanense

Next Saturday ko 1800hrs

Mentes Desporto v Marítimo Olhanense at Estombar

WOMEN´S FOOTBALL NATIONAL LEAGUE THIRD DIVISION SECOND PHASE South group
