List on page 1 updated. SPAR in Vale de Parra has closed down and one or two other small changes.

Updates - Supermercado Central in the old town Avenida 25 de Abril has closed down. The SPAR in Santa Eulália is still a real SPAR.

Strange! The SPAR in Santa Eulalia, which was firmly closed last week, was open today. The sign says hours are 0900 to 2400 daily. Maybe it isn't a real SPAR any more? Anyway, it's back on the list.

Thanks Hamlet. I haven't been that way lately. All the small SPAR stores around town have now closed, leaving only the larger ones at Avenida da Liberdade near the bus stops and taxis, in Rua das Telecomunicações at the bottom of Cerro Branco hill and the one in Rua Vasco da Gama that goes down to Auramar and Aquamarina. Their store over in Sesmarias, Estrada do Castelo, is also open for business.
Their shop at the marina is not listed on their website but it was there last week. "I f you mean Akil`s near Teasers Tom it was open Sunday night," I don't know that one. |

Would say looking around town lately there is going to be a lot of them appearing. Even the lads doing the drainage work down the old town sea front area had turbans same as does one of the road sweepers.

The SPAR shop in Santa Eulalia has closed. Quite recently by the look of it, as there was stuff still inside.

Jimmy's in Rua do MFA has definitely gone, but a new shop has opened next door called Patel's Stores. A typical small Indian store with big bags of rice stacked high. The Coviran around the back of the Câmara is still going.

Yes I had spotted those, forgot about them but will update. Thanks for the reminder. I have also seen yesterday that the SPAR in Rua Dunfermline has closed, replaced by something just called 'Supermarket'. I can check the Coviran on Monday when I am up that way.

Jimmys was closed all last year, I think he is gone. The Fruitaria opposite the Cavern is gone too, thought you might have noticed that Cubsur!!. Not sure about the Coviran behind the Camara either.

Yes, the new ALDI is open, it’s a nice store and, for us, very convenient. I do feel for the older, smaller local shops, it’s clearly going to impact on their business and I would think Apolonia will also take a hit.
But, always a but isn’t there, they have provided a perfectly serviceable car park yet the latest trend seems to be Portuguese husbands drop their wives to do the shop and then sit in the car, windows down, radio blasting to wait for them, but there must be a rule that says you can’t use a parking bay and ignoring the inconvenience to the shoppers/pedestrians, you have to park as close to the door as you can, this also when there’s five partaking, blocks the car park as well, it’s a clever game when played well and also no one walking past, when they unravel a route, can enjoy your music as each car is blasting out a different radio station. Let the chaos begin and sod everybody else! |

I must admit I thought it was open when we passed yesterday as there were quite a few cars in the car park. We passed another Aldi at Logoa which looked identical. We visited the Coviran Oceano on the way back and it was quite modern and smart with more stock than before. 🍞🍗🍳 |
