Hi all

I've just bought a property in the Algarve and I have asked our solicitor to be our Power of Attorney which she has agreed to. Does this mean she can conclude sale and there will be no need for me to go over to Portugal?

Thank you in advance.

That was the case 11 years ago when I bought my place. All I had to do was keep sending loads of money across. The power of attorney also took care of the transfer of utility bills.

Various documents were sent back and forth by that ancient device called a fax machine.

But things like setting up a bank account require your presence in person.

Yes, I also used power of attorney to purchase the property.

I opened a bank account with Millennium BCP - via their London office - although you do still have to visit them!

Additionally I used this company for money transfers rather than the bank - much better rates.
