Well, it was a sad sight with a sad history and after all these years it's now been flattened, quite shocked us to see..
(and the garden equipment tree has gone as well! Cry)

About time too. So who's going to build another luxury all inclusive tourist development there I wonder? Demolition here doesn't happen for pretty well any other reason.

They must have made some dosh at the beginning because when I came out in '87 I was going to work there and a friend who was already an OPC (gets you in off the street) was slinging people in left right and centre (early days before the bad press) She used to leave printed cards on windscreens of cars at Vilamoura casino and they'd just drive in and do a tour!! She calculated she'd made 29k sterling in just short of  a year and she's someone I trust to tell the truth and I saw her wage packets! Anyone on here remember Mad Max's in Branqueira? Great haunt for locals and the Navio crowd for their Sunday roasts then Max would shoot off and spend the profit in said casino!!

Was  it just before the traffic lights on the left, coming from Albufeira direction. Used to be the Cockerel too, or am I completely wrong.

Pete we used to go in the cockerel occasionally for Sunday dinner when we had timeshare @ Vale Navio then  I think they moved to Herculano where they are now. The place was empty for years and years and then Os Amigos opened around 2004, lasted a couple of years. I think its now been changed into a house. The  woman who owned all that property lived on the corner house next door, she might still be alive but not sure.

Yes JJ everything but the lived in villas and two derelict satellite buildings is as you see in the pics, rubble.

Re the Satellite buildings, they look like the  Pinetree apartments, we had a timeshare in one of those. Did you notice whether the two individual villas had been demolished  which are on the main road just before the entrance to the urbanisation, coming from Albufeira direction. They are down a slight incline off the road and with being overgrown you may not have seen them. Friends of ours from Scotland had one of those after upgrading from an apartment, (paying an extra 3000 sterling for the privelige) only had it for approx 12 months when the place went bang.

JJ, as you go in there was one satellite on the left, it looked like some sort of service building, not large, maybe three or for rooms, derelict but not yet reduced to rubble, the other one, as you carried on in there is a left turn, a very similar building there on the left. They were the only two still not flattened.
As you entered, with all the rubble on the left, it struck me how many of the occupied villas on the right hand side of the road, were so modern. A few years ago they were all quite old villas, I think a fair bit of money has been spent on building work these past couple of years.
What is disconcerting about this area is the way everybody looks at you, there would seem to be a real air of suspicion still around this small area.

Andrew there is a building on the left as you go in which I think was some sort of service building like you say. There was also a day  Nursery there as well. The nursery overlooked the main road. Pinetree apartments which I mentioned previous were  to the rear of this. A bit confused, need to go and have a gander when we are next down.

Just had another comment of my post on Facebook algarve pages on what's going to happen on Vale Navio, mmmm two different comments re the developers. Wonder who is correct. The guy who first commented about a Spanish company developing it has said  "It was the lady that runs the riding school that told me that was a spanish company and for the moment only is allow to build where is demolishing"

2nd Comment:
It is going to be a housing complex with shops and offices on. The owner is Portuguese, who owns property in Albufeira. The new complex terminates at the riding school".
I have seen the overall layout plans in a portuguese lawyers office. I will not mention his name but he owns a lot of property in Albufeira.

I hate how peopleï compare Frank Zappa to God. I mean, he's cool and great and nice and everything, but he's no Zappa.

There does seem more activity on the building front - a new villa in being built down the road and another around the corner from me. Plus I also see the Camara have restarted work on the council building near the new Cemetery. This had been mothballed for several years

Vale Navio is much improved already. I know it's full of rubble but it's not all erie like it was before. I think when the buildings were still up you kinda imagined what lurked behind or lived rough in there. Also quite a few of the lived in villas seem to be getting work done, some very fancy indeed. Anyway, demolition continues and just watched someone's once pride and joy flattened by a digger in a matter of minutes. Quite sad really but improvement also.

I took a wander over there yesterday afternoon. A security guard enquired as to my presence. Security? He said that the gippos have been stealing all the metal. He went on to say that a couple of rubble crunching machines are due soon to reduce the piles of big stuff to small stuff. That's going to be really pleasant for anyone living nearby.

The whole project he said could take 4 - 6 years to complete. Much work for many people. If it ever gets finished. He let me take a few pictures.
