I'm intending to bring my van to Portugal. what is the story for registering it on pt plates? I will be registering as self employed in Portugal.

It's a bit complicated as far as I know. As is registering as self employed. I would get a lawyer on the case if I were you Paul.

Not easy and not cheap!
The process used to be called Matriculation but the word homologation is fairly prevalent in this article...

It would save you a lot of time and effort and beuacracy to sell your van in the UK and buy a fully registered portugeese vehicle, friends of ours was going to bring thier car to their villa that they recently purchased but after working out the cost ect, it made sense to buy a car in albufeira and they were still better off
