I was at the Go Kart track yesterday in the Marina and Sandy who runs it has informed me that the owners of the track have taken over a couple of the vacant units and are building a 10 Pin Bowling Alley. it is due for finishing mid January and will be up and running for the start of February. I always enjoy a bit of track time and love the bowling so that will be me sorted for a few hours on my return in 8 weeks or so!!

Sounds good to me! I enjoyed a couple of visits to the bowling at Algarve Shopping before it closed down.

The marina is only 10 minutes walk for me, so a trip is well on the cards.

Thanks for the information.

If you buy a skateboard ..... You'll be there in two minutes as it's all down hill from your spot!! On the way back just hold on to the back of the bus for a tug up the hill! Quite looking forward to the bowling alley myself.

There might be something on their website at http://algarvekarting.com/" rel="nofollow - http://algarvekarting.com/ or you can contact them - I cannot get the site to open.

I've not heard anything locally.

When we were there over Christmas, there was a bowling alley open at the place that hired out the segweys and kids quadbikes.

It only had two lanes I think though.

I spoke to the man who was putting all the bikes out and he said that they opened from around 11.30am so long as it wasn't raining.

I spoke to the lady in the go-karting track just before Christmas, and she said it was opening in Jan..... or Feb - typical Portuguese time scales :-)

Spoke to English builder on site today - will be 9 lanes of bowling including 2 lanes slightly to one side for private parties. They are hoping to complete build late February/March but then have to obtain licences before they can open. Hoping to be around Easter but this is Portugal!

Spoke to Sandy at the Go Kart track on Saturday. The bowling alley will be finished, all being well by early March but, as ever, it's all down to the various papers that have to be passed and t's crossed and i's dotted before opening. It is actually looking quite good in there now so should be quite a good addition to the Marina area, which in my eyes is a real must for anyone stopping in town.

It will be good to have a bowling alley back, and a nice boost to the Marina area hopefully. Thanks for the info Keith.

In theory it should be a success, with advertisments/promotions and not too expensive the tourists will use it as there's not a great deal to with teenagers, and the locals are bound to use it also. The owners should give leaflets to hotels ect with prices and opening hours . Good luck to them hope it works out for them

Publicity is the key Andy, you are right. Lack of it was one of the major reasons the previous one failed in my opinion.

Our local independent ten pin bowling alley at home in the UK does 2 games of bowling, burger & chips & a drink for 2 people for £10 (i.e £5 each)

Radio stations, local press , even tickets shops could spread the word or corporate events ? Tbf forums like this do help. My local bowling lane charge £18.50 a lane excluding food and drink so a package deal would sell well .

Forgot to add ...i would call myself as a regular i/we come over 5 or 6 times a year and didn't realise there was underground karting place down the marina .... so it goes to show its all in the publicity and the diligence of the owners/ management

Dicey that's very good! Up here a lane would cost you twice that, never mind any side, freebie, tasters etc, and you need to book two or three weeks in advance, and the bar prices are extortionate.. But the places are rammed.

In fairness there's a socking great billboard outside the fire station Andy. But if that's the only one, and you don't pass that way, then you wouldn't know unless you went to a ticket shop I guess?

To be fair I've never seen that lol and we've been staying that side of town hopefully I'll spot it when I'm next over 😂... jokes aside I gather it's the same for festivals and new years eve celebrations , little or no advertising or very last minute.
Someone could set up a publicity business and make a few euros commission 😉

On the same subject, how many people are aware of this Adventure Park in Santa Eulália.
Never seen it advertised & only know about it as we go past it on the bus
Mind you some people have found it as it's got 279 reviews on Trip Advisor

Suppose not many Dicey unless its posted/advertised  on other  forums or tripadvisor. Just can't understand why the Portuguese can't promote their businesses.Maybe they depend on tourists to do it for them. Lazyitis comes to mind Big smile

Again , the adventure park is well publicised in ticket shops, but no good if you don't go into them...

Those that know me will be aware that the p**s poor publicity on the Algarve is one of my big bug bears. You would have had no idea that six of the best cyclists in the world were riding through the town last week if Cubsur didn't let us know on here.

The only events that seem to get a plug are things that are miles away, for example the Monchique sausage festival has a big billboard publicising it at the top of MFA road. The honourable exception being the Albufeira wine festival which is very well publicised, and as a result is a huge success.

I am going down to the track today for another session, so will mention the observations on here to the owners. If you like a go on the track the options are there to do 10, 15 or 20 minutes at very reasonable prices. The Karts are quick for the track and it's great when you get it right. All being well the owners (Who are British) will take on board some of the comments and the alley/track will continue to be on the up.

It's worth mentioning to them .... they've put time money and effort into it.perhaps handing out a few flyers in the square ect ,

"for example the Monchique sausage festival has a big billboard publicising it at the top of MFA road"

Sausages are a big thing in Portugal, in a recent survey Portuguese Sausages were voted 4th best in Europe, UK came in 6th with German sausages coming last because they are wurst  Wink

I was thinking whether there is some kind of law preventing local attractions and places like the karting, for example, putting up small posters about themselves in bars that tourists use? It wouldn't take much effort at the start of the season.

I know the karting has a dirty great sign near the fire station, but people walk past those things. When sitting in bar as one does, attention falls on the posters advertising community and social events.

The NYE event was better publicised last time than before, as they were able to confirm the headline performer early in November for a change.

I tried to send an email to the karting place in the Marina over a week ago to see what package they could do for a group of us and had no reply.

I also emailed the other karting track in Almancil too who came back to me, but seemed a bit pricey with the travel costs added too.

James, You could also try getting in touch through Facebook if you are on there. The track is currently only open from Friday through Monday (out of season) and I do know that the owners are busy with the bowling alley. They are normally quite good at getting info back to people, as is the manager, Sandy.

Bowling is now open. Currently only until 6pm but will be longer hours in main summer season. No shoe rental, wear your own. Their flyer below. Website is not yet operational.

A few doors way is a new 'Irish' pub, imaginatively called 'Jack's' that is getting towards opening but no sign to tell when.

I used to live virtually next door to one in London D. It was a "normal" pub that sold Tayto crisps and that happened to be run by an Irish family. Just like the ones in Ireland I have visited - not a chuffin leprechaun or tricolour in sight... Great pub it was.

Just tried the bowling and its 5 a game until the official opening mid may. tried to go karting  and as there is a kids price, thought they would just race kids then back to adults but was told there could be adults on when kids go. Stupid. Lost our trade. Was suggested I go too but what was to stop another couple of loons taking to the track .........The surf machine was 15 for 30 mins or 25 an hour or 80 an hour for family of 4. Had a quick go, put everyone else to shame, collected my gold medal on the podium and then woke up! Will sling Salomé on it next weekend as she has the balance of a thing with good balance!

I can recommend the ten pin bowling at the Marina - HOT Shot Bowling
A few of us went down a couple of weeks ago and had a great night
Hopefully the Marina will finally start to become somewhere worthwhile to go

Had my first taste of the ten pin bowling last night. As a group we paid 15 Euros each for two games (normally it's 10 for one game) and the 15 Euros included one drink. I came third overall despite not having played for years! Our two games (we were five on our lane) lasted 1 hour 40 minutes. There was a technical hitch with one of the pins, they happily swapped us to another lane. All in all an enjoyable spell, if a bit sore on the fingers!

If you would like to come and join a group outing, contact Richardk through the private message service here. Here's the scores, remember the total is over two games. No professionals here!

The only picture that came out any good. Too dark.
