Cheers Gang!!  Felt a little bit sad last night - Bonfire night.  The last time I saw fireworks prior to last night was during our holiday in Albufeira, the midnight displays that were done on Sunday evenings - Ah, memories!!

Good old North West of England today dry, cloudy start with brilliant sunshine as I was trying to drive home from work - still smell bonfires everywhere though!!  Never seen as many 3 piece suites going up in flames as I did last night - I'm surprised anyone has any furniture left!!  Heard a good one at work today - just as someone was heaving a sofa into the flames of a near by bonfire, a mobile phone that must have slid down the back started to ring!!  LOL

Went into town this morning. it's not too bad; there has been some minor damage where paving stones and drain covers were lifted by the force of water. I think that some shops were also flooded where water came in through their doorways. There has been also a lot of soil washed down various slopes and the council have been busy sweeping mud and stones off several roads.

All the water has gone now. With excellent timing I had in the letter box this morning a copy of the 'Pols' newsletter which describes the next stage of the civic improvement works due to start in January which include the building of new new drains and sewers in the lower part of town, to help relieve just this problem.

Further afield the railway to Lisbon was washed out north of Tunes and there have been floods in Messines and Silves mentioned on TV news.

We have been promised a break in the weather! Certainly This afternoon was bright and sunny.

bobster - could you enlighten a little regards the sunday evening fireworks?

Posted By: TELL
Date Posted: 08/November/2006 at 08:04
WE have seen fireworks on sunday evenings in late august early september. celebrating a local festival and the town anniversary but at no other times of the year other than NEW YEARS EVE.
These may be the best you will ever see as the 3 coast line from Villamoura to Albufeira becomes one huge firework display.

Fantastic displays on 25 April every year, and much celebrating. It's Freedom/Revolution Day and, coincidentally, my birthday!

The displays that we saw were apparently to celebrate a religious occasion.  They were done from Fishermans Beach on Sundays 3rd and 10th of September starting at midnight.  Truly spectacular!!

The weather here today isn't too bad, though we have had some heavy showers and high winds - no point trying to use an umbrella, Mary Poppins springs to mind!!

Sun beaming down from cloudless skies as I write. Been dry for several days now as well. But the wind is coming from the north-east so it is noticeably cold at night.

Might I just point out that because the weather here in the UK is so COLD.
We appreciate the Algarve weather much more than those who have to suffer the heat all the time.

I could do with a few more degrees and much less of the wet stuff though.

Noticed that a neighbour pegged some washing out in that gale force wind yesterday.  I can see one of her blouses now, it's in a large tree that is planted alongside the main London to Glasgow train line - not worth electrocution or a £100 fine to try to retrieve it is it?

Posted By: Sagres
Date Posted: 12/January/2007 at 13:38
It's not the "slates loose" brigade I'm worrying about now. - We've got a "washing line voyeur" as well !!What's this-the Care in the community website ??LOLLOL

Posted By: Bobster
Date Posted: 12/January/2007 at 13:56
Hadn't thought of it like that!!  Hmmm!!  No actually, the reason that I could see her pegging out the washing is, normally there is a 'full' fence in between our houses.  Due to two of my fence panels coming adrift it was dificult not to notice what the neighbours were up to!!  That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!!

Been raining hard here today - heavy showers and I just avoided getting soaked on the way to the shops this morning. Temperature has dropped a few degrees since Sunday.

Sky seems to be clearing now.

Don't forget it snowed just north of here last February!

Can't imagine why I moved here - one of my friends in UK lost his greenhouse last Thursday and another his fence. All that is behind me until the next tropical storm!

cubsur,
I checked the webcam at Praia da Luz this afternoon and, although it was sunny and people were sitting outside drinking,it certainly looked as if it had been raining hard as the promenade looked soaked.Difference there is,of course, that, ten minutes after the rain, the suncomes out and everywhere is dry within minutes.Over here, once the rain starts it tends to drag on for days!

Posted By: Bobster
Date Posted: 29/January/2007 at 20:31
I can't understand it - today, it hasn't rained, there isn't a force 10 gale blowing, my car wasn't covered in frost, and, NO SNOW!! What's happening to the weather here in the North West?  Completely stunned I can tell you!!

I am back now from the frozen wastes of Kent, sitting at the marina in Faro outside in the sun waiting for a bus.

'twas freezing cold with snow yesterday morning. Slushy pavements in town and where I was staying slushy everything as there aren't any pavements. And my friends dog demanded a walk, which I am obliged to do within the terms of my stay. Needless to say after 90 minutes  we ended up in front of the fire at the pub. Maybe there are some things that can be good about winter in the UK!

I am sitting out in my host's UK garden in the hamlet of Golden Green, near Tonbridge, Kent. It's a bit cloudy but the sun is warm at around 16C and it is dry - has been in fact for many days now they tell me.

Earlier today people were enjoying their picnic lunches in Calverley Gardens in Tunbridge Wells. Yesterday was warmer and less cloudy.

I shall catch up on my mailbox for the next hour or so then watch some cricket followed by a short walk to the public house for dinner and some football.

Back in Albufeira Friday and I hope the weather improves there!

Cubsur, these Portuguese weather forecast people must be brilliant - Granada weather for the Manchester region (17 miles from me) can't tell me what the weather will be like during the next hour.  They would probably get a lot more respect if they held up their hands and said "Not a clue, it will either rain or go dark before midnight!!"

I thought it normally always rained in the North West, it always did when I lived "up north". Then again, i lived in Blackburn Tongue

Just arrived home from a residential course based in Burnley.  The weather there has been surprisingly nice for the past few days, and, Blackburn was slightly cloudy as I passed through on the M65 less than an hour ago.  Thumbs%20Up
