Hello,

I went on holiday to the Algarve when I had just turned 7, in 1993. I am going through the photos of the trip and trying to identify the places.

I've been thruogh numerous holidays and have been able to locate the hotel I stayed at in most other places. But the hotel I stayed at in Portugal has eluded me.

The main thing I remember of the location is that many nights I went to "Augusto's Bar", and I have found such a place in Albufeira. The exterior matches, as I remember it as having a neon sign.

This is the place - https://www.facebook.com/augustossportsbar/photos

So I am assuming the hotel was in Albufeira

What I remember of the hotel:

1) quite a lot of storeys, I would guess around 10
2) there was about 300-500m of scrub-land between the hotel and a beach
3) there was a red tennis court in between the beach and the hotel
4) there was a chain-link fence and gate separating the hotel and the beach
5) there was an outdoor pool of an irregular shape
6) there was an indoor pool
7) the holiday company Haven managed our stay and had a kids' club
8) I think it had a large lobby with a high ceiling
9) the entertainment hall had large pillars of about 2ft in circumference, and the ceiling had multiple small domes
10) there was a concrete/stone path to the beach

I will add some photos below.

Does anyone have any idea where it may be?

From what I have read the beach-front and hotels have gone through some major changes since 1993. Looking along the beach I can't see anything that looks similar.

No joy here so far, but I am away from home on a 20th century internet connection which makes searching rather slow. But the low sand dune doesn't look right for Albufeira itself. The beaches in most of the town area are backed by fairly tall cliffs.

Major changes - that's an understatement! I will see if I can search a bit more over the next couple of days.

Hi,

I've located the hotel, it's in Altura, it's the Eurotel, you can still make out the odd shaped pool, sports court and boardwalk to the sea.

If you search Augusto's Bar one appears across the road from the hotel that looks like it has recently closed down.

I did wonder if it was down that end. Good find. I couldn't!
