Early news on the forthcoming tournament in the Algarve.
Expect fixtures to be at the end of Jan/early Feb. Venues across the area.

Confirmed attendees are at just the six, a few less than previous competitions. Still time for an addition or two, I feel....

Brentford B {UK},
Brøndby IF {Denmark},
IFK Göteborg {Sweden},
Rosenborg BK {Norway}.
FC Torpedo Kutaisi {Georgia}
IFK Värnamo {Sweden}.

Some regulars there, but I think the first time a team from Georgia has appeared.

I wonder who funds this event. There's no money to be made admission is either free or a token €5 or so.

Yes, both the Georgians and Varnamo are first-timers. Brentfords second stringers have entered once before.
I've been attending this tournament regularly since its inception, Tom ....... never been asked to pay an entrance fee yet. Have tried to get info on how it is funded, without luck.
The main man has always been Brian Horne, who played as goalkeeper in the Football League back in the day.

Quinta do Lago almost certainly behind closed doors. Eyes and ears are open, but there is far less of the 'winter break' type activity nowadays.

Hello guys.

No more teams here for the winter break?

Atlantic cup still announces just 6 teams..

Many of the bigger European leagues are not having a winter break as they once did. Those that do will probably be going to Saudi Arabia and the far East at the behest of their sponsors and owners. It is unlikely the Atlantic Cup will get any more teams with the first matches in three weeks time.

Thanks for the answer.

The new format of the uefa competitions made the winter break difficult.

Lets hope this isnt the end of the atlantic cup

Looks as if the fixtures have been finalised [or as final as Algarve ever gets!].

The Georgians of Kutuaisi have pulled out, with their two fixtures being filled by invitational teams, FC Dallas from USA and locals AS Mafra.

Bar one, all games are being played at the Estadio Algarve. *Ferreiras have been squeezed in to host Varnamo v Brentford B on Sunday, Feb 9th.

Thursday January 30th, 1pm .... Brondby v FC Dallas.
 .....ditto..........., 7pm .... Rosenborg v Gothenberg.
Sunday February 2nd, noon .... Brentford B v Mafra.
Tuesday February 4th, 4pm .... Brondby v Varnamo.
Wednesday February 5th, 8pm .... Gothenberg v Brentford B.
Friday February 7th, 4pm .... Brondby v Rosenborg.
 *Sunday February 9th, Noon ..... Brentford B v Varnamo.*
Monday February 10th, 4pm .... Varnamo v Rosenborg.

From my experience there may be last minute changes to these arrangements. Best to check their website  https://theatlanticcup.com/fixtures/2025-2/" rel="nofollow - https://theatlanticcup.com/fixtures/2025-2/ before setting out.

Fingers crossed!

Brondby 3-2 Dallas.
Good, competitive game, complete with traditional 20 man handbags in the second half.
This was Dallas' second friendly of their trip. They played Kutuaisi of Georgia last week behnd closed doors, winning 2-0.
Atlantic Cup is now 10E to get in, after never charging at all, previously. Estimated attendance today might have been 50, so may have covered the gateman, mandatory police and several yellow-jacketed beefy types on security.

Gothenberg 1-0 Rosenborg.
Won with a cruelly deflected cross from the byline late in the first half.

Not much in the game, really. Rosenborg lifted their efforts after half time and deserved an equaliser. Thwarted by two spectacular clearances off the line and a couple more desperate acts of defence by the Swedes [who avoided relegation from their Allesvenskan Premiership last season only on goals scored].

Brentford B 0-2 CD Mafra u23s.

Mafras youngsters came out on top against the even younger Bs. Lively game and Brentford will wonder how they didnt score at least one, with several more golden chances spurned. One goal in it at half time, but an own goal in the first minute of the second half gave Mafra some security.

Varnamo 3-2 Brondby.

On paper a bit of a surprise result. Varnamo only survived last seasons Swedish Super League after a playoff, whereas Brondby are giants in Denmark. Sub Kalu was the winners hero, scoring two in two minutes on the hour to turn the game around.

VENUE CHANGE

Brentford Bs game against Varnamo this Sunday 9th has been moved to Estadio Algarve, away from Ferreiras.
Ko remains @ Noon.

Gothenberg 1-2 Brentford Bs.

Another surprise on paper.
Youthful Brentford, it has to be said, pinched this win against the Swedish powerhouse. Their plans worked throughout, with diligent defensive commitment backed up by an excellent display from B's tall 'keeper. Gothenberg had almost all the ball, going in front with a header from a nearpost corner with only a couple of minutes til the break. Time enough tho for a B's right wing raid, pull back and emphatic finish. Level.
Second half was the same, oneway pressure with just a couple of breakaways to threaten the Swedish goal. Mass substitutions on 70mins resulted in another rightwing raid and a thundering header to take Brentford in front. Backs again to the wall therafter, but Bs kept their composure to take the win.
Bs Coach finished with a huge grin..... he and his team will be most pleased with this game.

Brondby 3-2 Rosenborg.

The teams cancelled each out in the first half hour, with not much happening. Then a deflected shot gave advantage to the Danes on 39mins.
Second half showed Brondby on top, good value, and on 53 a crisp finish from way out made it two. The third was fair reflection too, on 76, after a neat move.
A combination of Rosenborg piling substitute forwards into the game, and Brondby sitting back, enabled the Norway team to pull two back but the second was way to late to deny Brondby the win.
Quite entertaining overall, tho the 90 minutes of showers dampened things a little for the few in attendance.

Varnamo 1-1 Brentford Bs.

Bright day at Est Algarve saw an appropriately bright game. Both teams going for it with a draw being fair enough. The Swedes scored early and a penalty equalised for Brentford before half time.

One point to each team then, with the third to be decided by penalty shootout. Bs prevailed by 4-2.

The website shows that Brondby are top; but should tomorrows last game Varnamo v Rosenborg result in a Swedish win, they will lift the Cup [I think].

Rosenborg 0-0 Varnamo.

Rosenborg took the additional point after penalties [4-1]. No love lost between these two Nordic outfits, both strong in defence and not overly creative up front. A bout of handbags broke out in the first half but the ref decided a couple of yellows would suffice. The Norwegian keeper made two nice penalty stops that decided the outcome. The dozen or so Swedish fans managed a lacklustre chant in each half.

No Cup presentation or announcement, so the Danes from Brondby triumph, I think.
