There it was, gone! This is in the little alleyway called Travessa André Rebelo that goes up by the Ale Hop souvenir shop in Rua 5 Outubro towards the church.

A lot of similar going’s on in this part of town.

The one up the steps behind that demolished one plus the one beside the church and the one next door to Tunes is nearly finished.

And let’s not forget the Green Tiled Building nearing completion.

I also noticed yesterday that the Chalet Rita next to Inatel Praia has had a paint job at least. Time to go walkabout soon in daytime to get some better pictures.

Daylight pictures show that some interesting very old stonework has been exposed by the demolition.

Do you think they might be part of the old fortification that surrounded the hill above the town.

On that side of the road I don't think so, but I will have a look at the old pictures and maps.   The town wall was along the other side of the road and stopped near the clock tower by the Sol e Mar.

The site backs onto the old courthouse, which is also being renovated. There are some very old buildings in that area.

The whole building has now been demolished apart from the front door and the toilet on its pedestal. A trained archaeologist might be able to make sense of the jumble of ancient stonework, modern bricks and tiles that is now exposed.

A big fence has now gone up around this site, which without a by your leave reduces the width of the alleyway by half. The front door has gone, but the toilet bowl is still there.
