After the hiatus, the Walking Football Eurocopa tournament returns to the Algarve on 11th and 12th October. Although not as big as in previous years, the tournament features 19 teams from UK, Portugal, Spain and one from South Africa! The South African team are the holder of the 50 - 59 age group trophy.  Such well known clubs as Benfica and Malaga will be represented.

Play gets under way at Ferreiras Football Club at 1030am on both days. Admission is free. Bar will be open.

Not reffing, knee going. They have real refs now. I will be the office boy on those days.

Interesting.
I saw walking football played by the old priests on Father Ted but I didn't think it was a real thing.

It's really taken off over the past few years. In the UK at least there is now a single set of rules and tournaments are held all over. Well known football clubs are also taking walking football under their wings. We had Sheffield United and Fulham here a couple of years ago for example. Benfica and Malaga will be represented this time, as will locals SC Farense and a team closely associated with Athetic Bilbao.

A UK mate took up walking football - first game broke his ankle - got  dressing down from his boss.
18 months later after he recovered first game back he broke his ankle again - written warning
He's never played again  - be warned it might be low speed but its not low risk
