I hope they haven't cancelled new year - I'm sure we are all pretty sick of 2020.
I am sure Tom means the municipal New year Celebrations

Drastic steps are necessary.  People have died, are dying and more yet will die.

...and perhaps of other causes although that is now no longer relevant it seems. No cases of winter 'flu have been reported here, which local media find quite strange.

These half hearted measures will have little effect. I fully expect to hear party noises  from the blocks around me on December 31st.

Mass arrests to follow?

Also, hotels that had New Year events arranged (for staying guests) are now asking whether guests will be confined to their rooms during curfews. No-one thought of that it seems.

Other than preparing for it "seasonal Flu." doesn't appear to have raised it's head here yet either. Still, early yet. December - March are our peak Flu death months
As a result of the treaty of 1707 merging Scots and UK parliaments National Records of Scotland collects and collates all health related stats. in Scotland.  Despite being retired some years I'm still in contact with a few of the stats staff and I'm confident that, barring the usual cockups, our stats are straight.  It was the UK that used an Excel spreadsheet where they should have used a database and "lost" 16,000 test results.
Back to the bunker!

No flu is more than a little odd. A reduction in flu would be expected, given that it is transmitted in a very similar way to the Coronavirus. The precautions to prevent the spread of Covid 19 would have a similar effect on the flu virus.

And now for thoe who might have booked for the next coupolçe of weeks -

"Coming through during...news bulletins this evening (ie last night, Sunday) was the announcement that Portugal will be restricting flights from UK from midnight tonight (ie 00.00 hours Monday December 21).

The only people authorised for entry into national territory will be Portuguese citizens and legal residents."

Of course. Why didn't I work that one out?  Fog in the brain with advancing years.

Don't worry mate - plenty of conspiracy theorists of all ages have also failed to make that connection. It is almost like they are not wanting to think too carefully about the old crap they are being fed by people like David Icke...
