Subject: NEW ALDI STORE AT BULLRING?

Someone mentioned on facebook who lives there  earlier this evening , the supermarket is going to be ALDI. Obviously  the said supermarket ( if its true) is  being built on the large car park at the back side  of the bullring as its the only place with spare land. to build it. Hopefully Cubsur can make a visit on his travels and let us know any updates.

I have heard mention of a new ALDI supermarket being built there. I will be going by that way on Friday and will take a look if I remember.

It's a pretty big area. Even if a supermarket is built, there is still room for the parking necessary for the thousands of cars that would be there if the arena is used for other activities.

Plenty going on, lots of digging and scraping and lots of dust as Richard K said.

The building permit sign on the fence does not say what is being built there. The only detail is 'urbanisation'. It's valid for a year.

(As an aside, the two bars that are 'part of' the bullring were both open at lunchtime but devoid of customers.)

There is some serious earth moving going on there. The level of the land next to the bullring building is being lowered by several metres.

Aldi just got windows couple of days ago, probably two to three months away from opening. It is huge construction taking all the space between three streets and the bullring. Car parking alone has two levels above ground (probably below too), absolutely massive. I also have photos but not sure what service do you use to post photos -- let me know.

"what service do you use to post photos -- let me know."

I  use postimage.org

It's free. Once you have created an album and uploaded pictures, it creates a 'hotlink for forum' code. Copy that by clicking the icon to the right of the line.

Create your post here as normal and paste in the code. Your pictures will be included.

The ALDI store and next door car park are progressing. I agree it will be a few weeks before either is open.

On other forums I use, you simply copy and paste, or there is a button that takes you to your folders and you just open the picture from there. Can admin not sort that out for this forum rather than to go through all that palaver?

Hmm even with postimg pasting hotlink for forums " https://postimg.cc/zL3f1q1B - https://i.postimg.cc/HL98XLZQ/aldi.png</a>" (without quotes) seems to strip url from bb codes? anyway link is above. Oh bbcodes are stripped even within quotes, quote above contains url and img bbcodes.

Building work continues, building is substantially complete outside at least. lots of concrete being poured and much activity at the parking area. I will see if I can get a picture later this week.

Meanwhile any code to link to images using postimg (and probably others) should look like this

Since I can see the building from my terrace, few days ago there was a lot of activity after the dark with lights inside turned on, so I could see store is fully stacked with shelves. Few of the people inside looked like non-builders, most probably Aldi stuff making final shelf layout. Windows are usually non transparent but with the correct lighting everything is visible inside. It looked like very complete inside, walls, floors, shelves, no hanging wires etc.

Aldi seems almost complete but no news when it can open. Last couple of days they added few trees and what seems like grass on the few slopes next to what looks like main entrance. Actually I cannot figure out yet where they intend to have main entrance, what looks like it does not make much sense - directly facing Rotunda do Globo. There must be something on the other side towards bullring?

The ALDI website says it should have opened a week ago.

I have it on my agenda to have a look on Thursday when I am out shopping. Camera will be in hand.

It will be called ALDI Monumental by the way and will be open from 0730 to 2300 every day.

Now on aldi.pt home page only says 'soon'. Lots of construction workers around and definitely not open yet.

I will post when it opens, looking at the building so I have good view of the situation. A lot less workers since supposed scheduled opening last month so I am guessing they didn't pass all the tests to accept the building. It is stuffed with goods since at least month ago, it will require extra vigilance with expiration dates when they finally open. In this state, if I am right that they are stuck in some paperwork it can take lots of time before they open.

There are two green slopes that I am looking at, next to main entrance, they only planted one and two 'edge' trees respectively while there is place for a forest on each and all of them seem to be drying up.

At this tempo I would be surprised if it opens within next month, of course everything is possible.

New banner on aldi.pt home page (first one) now says it opens in two days, so September 8th.

Red carpet and balloons this morning -- it is finally open! Only today it seems on purchase of over 50 euros free 2x beach towel and 1x parasol, off to get mine.

Went with my wife, we were able to enter without delays, now there is 100-200 people line outside. 20 or more minutes to exit too, of course on the first day there may be more crowd than what will be on other days.

I was not thrilled inside but that may be due to not knowing aldi before and where what stands. It feels smaller than what I expected. Doesn't have bakery or meat section, however there is lots of pre-packed fresh meat and fish to choose from. Reminds me of lidl because there is huge number of clothes and small kitchen appliances taking a lot of space. Prices seem 5-10% higher than Pingo Doce for small things, someting that is 1.75 is Pingo is about 2.1-2.2 in aldi. Not for all items of course but seems like general trend.

Since today's action gives one towel for over 25 euros and 2 towels + parasol for over 50, when we get to pick them towels seemed at the end, unless they restock them all this people waiting outside won't be able to get their prize.

Mixed impressions, could be good place to shop, being 20 meters from my apartment beats everything else...

Thanks for the update , not sure then if I would go y9 that instead of the one in Parra as we use the bakery section a lot , but if that was walking distance I would still go
