oh boy. I hope this is right.
I knew from day one it was designed and built toF1 standard, indeed several F1 teams have run tests there, including Lewis when he was at McLaren.

I’ve had reports from Holland and local that this is on.

It was originally built with F1 in mind but the infrastructure has never been in place and the failure to build the onsite hotel was always a stumbling block.

However, this year is soooooo different for obvious reasons, so it just might happen.

If you’re interested Cubsur, I’m going. Wifey says no chance.....silly girl.

This does say F1 will confirm by the end of July, so watch this space.

If TV rights are in place, then it may go ahead even if spectators are not permitted.

There is a precedent in that it has been confirmed that the final stages of the European (football) Champions League will take place in Lisbon, presumably also without spectators present.

Yes, spectators allowed Richard. I think it’s the first that won’t be behind closed doors.
Now we have to look-out for the release of tickets and the bun fight that will cause!

I have read that tickets were going for as much as €500.

That kind of number at a single event will be an interesting and severe test for the government's policies.

News from the circuit in reply to an e-mail I sent this week:

"Shuttles will be available from two places in Portimão: one in Marina de Portimão (nearby Praia da Rocha) and the other one in the old Retail Park, which now is just a parking lot at EN125. These will leave every 30 minutes, starting at 7am, and then will run until about 1 hour after the end of track activity."

I was told by one in the know that at most GP they have a short range broadcast of commentary that punters can pick up on their phones, so you know what is going on - they told me they have no plans for this "However, we will have live commentary on the track and big screens around the circuit."

Silverstone sell little transistor radios with trackside commentary for a tenner, but no problem following the action if you can see one of the big screens.

Apparently so many foreigners wont be able or want to come with the restrictions they wont need to enforce any cancellation. Its only going to be 27.5% capacity so should be plenty of room.
No food nor drink to be taken in so no doubt make up some of the shortfall that way

Let's hope it doesn't completely fall apart so that similar events will come this way. If anyone's there at the moment they will not very gruntled.

A great pity but inevitable.  Once Covid is under some sort of "control", if ever, there shouldn't be any reason not to have a Portuguese event.  Even in this climate the tickets were selling so there shouldn't be a problem in "normal" times.

World Superbikes are held here every year and it’s one of the best if not the best race tracks on the calendar.

Also Motogp are coming for the first time on the 22nd November. Valentine Rossi et al.

Seems to depend where you look mate? Met Office has 19% or 20% chance of rain around racetime, Accuweather 54% chance sometime in the afternoon, World weather on line 0% to 33% racetime, Time and Date.com 48% sometime during the day and the BBC 4% or 5% racetime.

Sun cream and sou'wester will be taken to be worn accordingly...      Big smile

Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton by winning today he has passed Michael Schumachers record.
Great to be there but traffic was chaos and this was with considerably reduced attendance. God knows how they would cope  -  took us 3 hours to get in from Albufeira.
Seats were allocated after approval by DGS - there was a spare seat between us and others -  not brilliant  but I didn't see anyone not wearing mask on North Stand but cannot speak for others- either way we will be in self imposed exile for next week or so.

Great day despite poor organisation and autumnal weather

Posted By: Algarveaddick
Date Posted: 26/October/2020 at 14:29
The organisation was the usual farce, sadly. We caught the 11AM shuttle from Praia da Rocha, there were 12 people on it... Maybe if they actually told people it existed it might just help ease the ridiculous traffic congestion Richard mentions? It took us two hours to go just over 20km. The only point at which we were given priority was about 300m from the circuit, which did mean we actually got in to see the start (just), but it is hardly an incentive to leave the car at the park n ride if you just have to sit in traffic with all the cars anyway. There are three lanes on the road leading into the racetrack, for some inexplicable reason, one was coned off from the motorway all the way to the venue. That will be down to the GNR, of course, not the Autodrome. When we arrived there was no clear signposting to tell us where to go for our seats. We had green tickets - the sign on the gate saying "Verde" was red and white. Is it beyond the brain power of the management to use blue signs for the blue area, red for the red area and green for the green????

There was no way of knowing what was happening in the race, as the promised commentary over the tannoy did not materialise, and you could not see the big(ish) screen from where we sat.

The race itself was a great experience, and we were delighted to be there to see Lewis break the record.
