In addition to Sunderland and Wrexham, Fleetwood Town say they will be in Vilamoura (one game planned) from July 12-14 .. sounds like a piss-up really ..

My eye is firmly on the ball. As soon as ink is dry on the contracts ye shall be informed.

Joey Barton meets Vilamoura should be an interesting culture clash.

That'll probably be at Browns, I guess it's training for the qualifiers in June, so they won't have anyone to play - club football season is over following the weekend after all...

Can't confirm dates but Fulham are out in Algarve for 10 days around the first or second week of July. They are playing two games one which is open to public. They played at Albufeira stadium a few years back and i would imagine this is where the open to public game will be but opponent T.B.A.

I have asked my man in the know for confirmed games as and when the ink is dry on the contracts. Watch this space.

There is a talk of a four team tournament featuring Everton and Benfica, among others. Rumour only at this stage however.

Unusual for Oxford not to have a game. We played them at the Albufeira stadium two years ago and there were 500+ oxford supporters. By all accounts it is some kind of annual thing.

Why? Usually on Quinta do Lago, the matches are closed door?

SC Braga also plays another match on the same day.

Posted By: cubsur

There is no way that a public match involving professional clubs could take place without the necessary security, which would be impossible there.

Quinta do Lago is a training ground, not a stadium used for regular matches. It has no facility for spectators. Any match  played here before a paying public requires a heavy police presence. Our local league with crowds of 100 or less has to have three armed police 'to keep order'. Games at the higher level eg Portimonense (average crowd 3,000) need about 20 police inside and a similar number of black uniformed security guards to search everyone on entering. The clubs have to pay for this of course.

The games will almost certianly be at night because of the heat. Tickets are normally available on the day except perhaps for the match(es) at the Algarve Stadium.

I understand that Rangers are playing one match behind closed doors.

Other games seemingly confirmed and apologies if I am repeating anything :

Sheffield Wednesday v Shrewsbury at Ferreiras FC 9th July 1900hrs
Fulham v FC Porto at Albufeira stadium 16th July jko changed to 2030hrs!
Sheffield United v Real Betis at the Algarve Stadium 12th July 2000hrs.

Please double check kickoff times a week or two before the game. Anyone reading this and planning to go to the Sheffield United game be aware that there is NO public transport to or from the stadium in the way of buses. The other two places are no problem if you are in Albufeira.

That is the Bela Vista stadium in Parchal and it is indeed a 1000am kickoff!

If I were to go it means the 0840 bus from Albufeira and 1235 back from Parchal.

Or maybe a nose around Ferragudo or Portimão afterwards?

The Mansfield website says the game v Swansea is at Vila Real. Swansea certainly would not want nearly two hours extra driving to Albufeira.

Mansfield will play an inter squad match between 1st team and U-21's at Guia FC on Friday morning 5th July at 10.30am. For those who don't know, Guia's ground is just to the north of the village centre (the roundabout with the chicken statues on it) just off the road to Algoz.

We only know about those mentioned above eg Rochdale on Saturday morning, Sheffield Wednesday next week etc.

Our local season doesn't start until September so it's far too early for most pre season activity. In any case, most pre season games at second tier and below are played behind closed doors to avoid the obligatory cost of policing.  Most of the clubs don't have websites so it's very hard to get any information.

Two more games to add to the list :

Portimonense v Getafe Friday 19th July at 1800hrs followed by FC Porto v Real Betis at 2015hrs. Both games at Portimão Stadium. No transport available afterwards of course.

Winners play a final on Sunday 21st at 2015hrs. I didn't see anything about a third place match. If there is anything on the Portimonense website, it is well hidden.

James - I did find a bar not far from the marina one rainy day which had some games on - called Piper's Irish Pub it's on Rua do Prior a couple of streets back. There aren't any 'British' bars in Faro I know of, so the chances of getting any pre season games on Sky etc is minimal.

Rangers are playing a Europa League game in Gibraltar on 11th July. Perhaps. Or it might be next Tuesday.

There is only one football pitch in Gibraltar and there is another team that might be playing a Europa League match the same week. UEFA and the clubs are still arguing the toss about who plays when. Just to make things worse, the international Inter island games get under way on Saturday.

Rangers were allocated 960 tickets. All gone. No tickets on sale via home club website.

A few more words.

Rochdale's colours!

https://postimages.org/" rel="nofollow">

Both teams fielded a different XI in each half, so everyone got a run out in a good first time out shakedown. Rochdale created some good scoring chances especially during the first game, but Farense defended well. The goal was a bit of a gift as described. Farense striker Fabrício Simões spotted the error, sent the 'keeper the wrong way and finished well from a fairly tight angle.

Farense had the better of the second game I thought, with a very fast right winger causing all kinds of problems. Some good goalkeeping and a last ditch clearance denied them.

There were about 100 there, including a few of the Farense ultras busy chucking down the beer at 1000am in contrast the more reticent Daleites!

3G = English term for synthetic grass.  Albufeira's junior and youth teams use the synthetic grass pitch next to the main stadium.

Maritimo vs Lille?

There is no way on this earth teams of that stature would play on our second pitch unless behind closed doors. There are no spectator seats and only one toilet. It is basically a training pitch. I can find no mention of this match at either club's official website.

There is also Sunderland v Benfica B on Thursday 18 July, also at Albufeira Stadium, ko 1930hrs. Tickets for both their games are likely to be €10 adults, €5 juniors and seniors.

Saturday's match between Portimonense and Braga is still shown on the Portimonense website as 'venue to be decided´ while the Braga website says it is in Portimão, ko 1930hrs.

On Tuesday 16th Braga will meet Al Duhail SC (Qatar) also at Portimão ko time not shown. The same day (?) they play Millwall behind closed doors at Quinta do Lago. According to the Braga website, on  Friday the 19th and again on the same day their website says some of them play Maritimo at Lagoa while the rest play Lille in Albufeira. No kickoff times listed.

My contact who organises a lot of these pre season games told me he has never had so much trouble as this year. Many teams won't agree to anything and there have been problems with some of the pitches not being ready.

Makes sense! Ko is at 2000hrs apparently, Saturday 20th.

My contact said that some clubs didn't want pre season games advertised to the general public. Some of the English teams arranged trips for fans, who they thought would take up all the places at a small stadium like Ferreiras.

Like Sunderland that are selling tickets to their matches here. But it´s impossible to have 100% attendance even at Ferreiras just with the people from the trip.

And it´s unfair to the supporters living here.

Yesterday i saw Birmingham playing on Estadio do Bonfim, against Cova da Piedade.

About 100 supporters.

BRAGA - AL-DUHAIL canceled.

I hope, in this case, BRAGA change the venue of the match against millwall, so the supporters can watch it.

Heaven forbid tourists should be entertained and the clubs make some money out of it... Where would it all end?

Slightly off topic, apologies, but having said I liked Rochdale’s pink kit, and Force India’s pink F1 car last year...
I was chuffed to see my teams new goalkeeper kit! Very fetching!

I look forward to seeing you wearing it!

An issue at pre season matches here is security. There were no police present at Ferreiras last Tuesday, which surprised me. There were a lot more people there than Ferreiras FC normally receive for their home matches, which have to be controlled by a minimum of three armed police.

It seems that if a match is listed as 'training match' the police do not have to be notified.

Braga v Millwall is still shown on their website as at Quinta do Lago with no kickoff time listed. Portimonense v Braga this evening is at 1900hrs, admission free.

There is no mention of it on their website so if they won't tell us...

All I can find is that they are either playing in Albufeira Municipal Stadium tonight "against a Sky Bet Championship side.." or it might be at Brown's Sports Club in Vilamoura this afternoon. Conflicting information!

I wonder if the opponents might be Millwall, who arrived here yesterday. But there is no mention of any actual games on Millwall's website.

Fleetwood announced around 9 am on twitter Saturday their game was 7pm at Estadio Municipal Albufeira but opposition not named. At 6.45 I was the only spectator in the ground. eventually there were about 75 there. sure enough it was Millwall they were playing. Millwall won 1-0, with a late wnner.
Subsequently Millwall have in a club statement issued an apology to their fans for 'the disappointment and upset caused' !!! Fans not happy as they thought it was behind cloes doors but have seen that Fleetwood fans, and a few others, were there !

Any friendly match for the winter break?

Atlantic Cup already confirmed 2 teams.

"Any friendly match for the winter break?"

Nothing definite as yet, but there will be, as usual, teams from Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Russia, Denmark, Sweden etc. English teams will no doubt go to the Far East to keep the sponsors happy. We may get someone from Scotland this year during 'winter' which though seems to have already started!

I will post here when information is confirmed. For contractual reasons this may not be available until a few weeks before.
