Hello.
Was wondering if there are areas of the Algarve that have piped gas to homes? I always thought that calor gas was used, but recently on visits I have seen a number of properties with Gas Cabinets On walls outside, and I think dials/meters inside these cupboards.

Obrigado

Some places have piped gas and others have bottled gas.
As far as I'm aware there is no mains gas here like there is in the UK.
We have piped gas and that comes from a large tank in a nearby hotel which gets topped up as & when needed.
It is supplied by Rubis. we have our own meter and we pay them, not the hotel.
Many large complexes use a similar system but I don't know how widespread that is.

I hate how peopleï compare Frank Zappa to God. I mean, he's cool and great and nice and everything, but he's no Zappa.

We too have piped gas from a large tank on our condominium. Like Dicey says it is filled up via a huge tanker which comes along from time to time. Our supplier is called Gas Cam, and we have a meter and pay our bills monthly.
When a property changes ownership, Gas Cam will terminate the supply until they have completed a service of your home (€50 charge for this), they will then reconnect. A property on our condominium recently changed hands, and the new owner has only recently come out here. He found that his meter had been removed, then had to pay nearly a hundred euros for a new meter in addition to the €50 for the service. Apart from that, it is much more convenient to use than having to change gas bottles.
Our house is situated in Roja Pé near Olhos de Agua.

We have the same arrangement that Cooknoe describes at my block in Páteo. Several have this up here as they were built 30 - 40 years ago.

Apparently one is supposed to have a safety inspection and certificate issued every 5 years. I've owned my place for 15 and no-one has asked for a certificate.

Something to be aware of and perhaps that I should have done!

Our supplier is actually Gascan. Checked this morning on the way to the shop.
We bought over here almost four years ago, so should be due for an inspection next summer. Will be interesting to see if they contact us about this.

Just to say thank you for the replies. My quirky curiosity in this matter has been satisfied.

Muito Obrigado
