Sir Harry's is closed for a complete rebuild. The building licence is valid until August 2020! The interior has been completely gutted except for the iconic photo poster. No-one working when I took these pictures around 1015am this morning.

Casa Da Fonte also has a fascinating photo album of old Albufeira

Including some old photos framed in their bar.

Similarly there are some in one of my favourite restaurants, Os Arcos where Jose proudly points out that two of the fishing boats on the old picture of the fisherman's beach belonged to his father.

Cavern will not be open tonight as the owner and half his regulars are partying in Belfast. Normal service resumes tomorrow, Tuesday, evening 7pm all being well.

If you mean the old Dubliner on Sta Eulalia, behind the bus stop, it is now `Four Leaf Clover`(Irish Bar) ... if you mean the New Dubliner in Corcovada, it is now `Roberto`s Pub&Grub`(live entertainment too) .. they have TA Review pages and Facebook ..

Should you wish to stay loyal to the folks who ran the Dubliner, the "New" New Dubliner is on the junction of Estrada das Sesmarias and and Estrada do Castelo  between Albufeira and Gale.

Sir Harry's having another major refit

Posted By: Windmill Hill Boy
Date Posted: 22/November/2019 at 10:26
I think it's just an excuse to close over the winter as the last 2 major refits have been fairly minor!!

Posted By: A9NDY
Date Posted: 22/November/2019 at 15:19
This ones a full refit it’s a shell inside I counted 8 builders stood around drinking bottles of super bock at 12 noon..... so progress will be slow

Will it still be Sir Harry's? I didn't see or hear anyone working when I passed by around 1030am.  Perhaps we can sneak a look over the weekend when there is even less chance of anyone doing anything.

I think - and I may be wrong (according to my wife, I often am) - that the main reason for the work is to refurbish the upstairs area to make it habitable. Which would make perfect commercial sense. Sorting out the bar itself at the same time makes logistical sense. Previous year's closures have been preparing the upstairs for this.

I do not imagine that Sir Harry's as a "brand" will disappear, that would make no commercial sense. Though dafter decisions have been made (See "Snack Bar" O Manjar).

Go around the back to see the extent of the work taking place. What used to be Ludo's many years ago around the corner has been completely demolished except for the facade.

Grabbed this picture from a nearby roof this morning. Men working on the roof of Sir Harry's and you can see the big crane that has been installed.

I didn't look at the building permit notice to see when that expires. I will try to remember to do later in the week unless someone gets there first. Buit yes it doesn't look like they will be opening again any time soon.

The back of the site is now fenced off so it's not possible to get a closer view. But basically it's an empty space behind that old facade.

The wall at the back has been  bricked up so, a better view of the new extension not  now possible. What about the new frontage though?

By the way, people were working at Vertigo next door, cleaning equipment and furniture.

Nor me, I don’t think the Portakabin type toilet in the middle of the terrace is very becoming! LOLLOLLOL

Re Sir Harrys (Harry Warner)Can anyone remember the local Algarve  English newspapers (online)  ie Portugal News, Algarve Resident etc   having an archive section where you could search old news. I remember reading about Harry Warner & his wife coming to Albufeira in the  1960's or thereabouts  to open a bar and would love to read it all over again but sadly now can't find anything appertaining to it. Only thing I found was about  when he died, https://www.portugalresident.com/harry-warner/

Edit: I seem to recall also from reading  news, that  many years ago he had something to do with The Ancora Bar on The strip as well  when it first opened. I could be dreaming though.

Does anyone know the history of Harry Warner and his wife?

If you get a copy of Jenny Grainers book “Falais Portuguese or are you English?”, first edition, the picture on the cover of several people, including Jenny, also includes Harry. They are having a coffee on the pavement outside Bailotte. That is very early 60’s if not before.
My copy is in Portugal so I can’t at the mo, post you a pic or check the date.

Obviously they are in no rush. No-one working as it was Sunday, but there was a stack of cement bags along with other stuff at the front. Maybe I will sneak out into town later in the week to see what's going on.

Hi, May no longer be of interest but am retuning in June after many years. Used to sit and chat while Harry or one of the boys set up in the morning. His unique marketing information board always pulled people in for news updates.
Always found him to be a nice guy that would help anyone. Be interesting to see the changes 🤔
