Topic: Newbie, introduce myself Posted: 27/June/2016 at 12:45 |
Hi all, I am a newbie to this forum, just about to come to the Algarve for my 2nd visit, as my first visit was booked at a very late stage I arrived knowing very little about the locality.
This time I want to know more before I arrive so please be patient with my simplistic questions, which will be coming thick and fast soon.
I will be staying at the Hotel Montechoro at the end of July/beginning of August so any hints and tips appreciated.

OK, first question:- my last visit was in October when we had no problems, but what is the mozzie situation in end July/early August?
Or should I start a new thread with the question ?

They will be around but a lot will depend on your location and if there's any breeze, we find any breeze above say 4mph means they dont come out to play.
Last night we had four of them visit, the previous two nights none. So it's not a major problem when they're about anyway unless you're unluckily one of those people that draw them in like a magnet.
Oh, and welcome to the forum.

Welcome and Hi. Worth getting a mossie spray from Boots for the evenings and there is an Avon product which people say is good but can't remember the name. Also best not to wear aftershave or perfume in evenings as allegedly the mossies will fancy you even more!!

Add a drop of Citronella Oil to that works a treat....Keeps all insects at bay Daughter used to use it when horse riding.

Thanks folks! Those kind of numbers and situations I can deal with ( or rather the Avon skin so soft can), it works well for me and my son in law says the troops of 2 Scots swear by it, it even handled the sand flies in Afghanistan.
