Topic: New Mexican Restaurant Posted: 31/March/2016 at 11:56 |
Noticed that there is a new Mexican Restaurant opening tomorrow in the old town. Named Il Cantino, it is where the American Diner used to be - across the road from the back of The Bank. Not cheap, but a decent looking menu. Just hope it is better quality than the underwhelming Mi Sombrero.

Ironically we have had a couple of meals in Mi Sombrero with no complaints although we haven't been since 2014.

Our vegetarian friends really like it too Col, but when we went - also 2014 I think - we thought €8 for a bowl of doritos with a spoonful of salsa on it was robbery, and my fajita had a couple of strips of watery chicken in it, along with a jalapeno but no sauce to speak of, and refried beans that were more like lumpy gravy...

Finally tried it on Saturday. Better than Mi Sombrero, but not fantastic. I would go again if someone else wanted to, but would not recommend it to anyone.

Yes, Ricardo is there overseeing, he is from the family that owns it as well as Cabana Fresca and Flavours, he used to be overseeing CB but he's moved across to this their latest addition.

Personally it's another I avoid, mate. "Bruschetta" made from pitta bread, "focaccia" made from regular pizza base and Hawaiian pizza with no ham is not my idea of what makes a good pizza restaurant. Oh and €3 for a jug of water that at best has come from a 45c. 5 litre container doesn't help either.Â

I think CF is missing Ricardo really badly, service standards have plummeted
