Imortal Albufeira 1 - 1 Juventude Évora

A highly frustrating game, for both teams and for different reasons. Imortal had trouble scoring last season and that hasn't changed! They badly need someone in midfield who can think quickly and pass accurately. So many times the build up was far too slow, allowing Évora to get organised. And far too many times the ball was given away, prompting groans from most of those present.

Évora would surely have won had they not been reduced to ten men a minute after half time, when Matsimbe was dismissed after a second yellow card.

The afternoon was bright and sunny, but rather windy. The pitch was hard in some areas, making control a little difficult. But some parts had been watered and that was probably the cause of an early scare for Imortal when Torres slipped in front of goal and lost the ball. Luckily the ensuing effort was both weak and wide. Évora pressed, crosses came in but new goalkeeper Lucas Texeira showed a safe pair of hands.

Imortal gradually got back into the game. Elvis Odukporo had a great run down the left wing thwarted by a loss of control. Midfielder Leandro Cortez, another new face, was busy but earned himself a booking. A great chance fell their way midway through the half. The Évora 'keeper fumbled a cross, Torres and Duarte got in each others way trying to get the rebound, a half clearance was lashed over the bar.

Évora responded. Imortal gave the ball away, Tomas Lima sped towards goal, beat the defenders and his low hard shot into the far corner gave Teixeira no chance.

Play became scrappy. Tidjane Baldé was booked after what the referee saw as a poor challenge and probably for dissent.

Just before the break, Évora should have gone two up. Some neat footwork and a bit of ball juggling enabled Vieira to outwit two defenders, but his shot went across the goal and out to safety. There was time for Tidjane Baldé to hammer a shot wide from distance.

Imortal were winning the free kicks conceded count 11 - 5 at half time. It got worse! The second half was a start stop affair of petty fouls and the usual hysterical play acting at any contact.

No doubt words were said in the home changing room at half time. Imortal made a double change, taking off Cortez and Bruno Pereira, replacing them with Cruz annd Fadigas.

Within a minute of the restart, Évora were down to ten. Matsimba flattened Fadigas, earned a second yellow and off he went. Matters became rather heated. A clash right in front of the Évora bench earned Duarte a yellow, as did one of the visitors coaching staff, who proceeded to stamp up and down complaining about the injustice of it all.

Imortal equalised on 15 minutes, given as an own goal. A corner taken by Fadigas floated towards the far post, the 'keeper called and missed, possibly the wind took it a little. Forwards and defenders rose, someone headed it gently into the net. André Farinha of Évora was held responsible.

Tidjane Baldé continued to be a threatening presence for Imortal. Determined play down the right wing earned a free kick. A well worked routine ended with captain Pedro Rodrigues blasting a shot just over the bar. Minutes later, Duarte (aka Marocas) headed wide from five metres out, a free header from a great cross by Fábio Santos.

Imortal bossed the game in terms of possession for the final twenty minutes, but to no gain. They were too slow, concentrating on not losing the ball (in which they failed) rather than doing something constructive with it. Évora were content to sit back and play for the point. There was just one half chance for Imortal, but Torres failed to finish.

Next weekend, Imortal travel to Lisbon to play Oriental, currently 4th. Imortal are 12th of 14 teams, with just the one point.

Thanks for your postings and recent match report. After 23 years and 52 visits to the Algarve I have finally paid my debts to the family holiday fund, ditched my freeloading friends and do something that I have wanted to do for years, spend a Sunday afternoon supporting DC Imortal!!! For longer than I care to remember, I have been gazing at the floodlights from my lofty viewpoint on those lovely Albufeira evenings at the Casa Azul at Clube Albufeira thinking that one day, Im going to actually watch a game at Estadio Municipal. I have been there many times in the past as the clubhouse serves up some of the best fish dishes for miles around and you can sit and admire the trophies from the past but this year, on September 17th. I will take my seat and watch Imortal v GD Fabril. So forget the Premier League and Liga Nos, this is real football and I cant wait. Keep the match reports coming the best you can as Im only there for two weeks and I dont want to be starved of info when I get back to England.
Best regards
Delbeck.

Well it had better be an improvement over last Sunday! I shall not be there. I will be making my final trip of the year to UK to watch Tonbridge in the FA Cup on the 16th followed by Kent losing to Somerset the following week down at Taunton in the County Championship.

We have some local interest with that as well as Bognor FC are away to Burgess Hill Town tomorrow at 3.00pm. This is pretty much a local derby and an FA cup first qualifying round. Cricket, well thats another matter with my allegiance favoring the Southern Brave. (Not really a county observer) Sure looking forward to my day at the Estadio Municipal and hope to bring back some good memories when I return on Sept. 27th.
Good luck and be safe.

Coudln't go to the game in Lisbon yesterday. A cruel result, Imortal lost 3-2 with the winner coming eight minutes into time added.

Imortal were two down at half time. Two second half penalties, both scored by Mario Duarte (Marocas) levelled the score. Imortal were dished out five yellow cards. The high count means some players are going to be suspended pretty soon!

Next weekend it's away to Loulé in the FA Cup 1st round, Ko 1500hrs / 3pm on Sunday 10th at the Loulé Municipal Stadium just outside the town centre.

Algarve Cup - Imortal have a bye into the second round. That is scheduled to be played on Wednesday 1st November, which clashes with a date for a League match, so obviously one or the other will have to be chanegd!

The match will be away to the winners of the first round tie Silves v Culatrense.

LOULETANO 1 - 0 IMORTAL PORTGUAL FA CUP FIRST ROUND

A game of very few clear cut goalscoring chances ended in a one - nil win for the home team.  Imortal's first attempt on target was not until the 6th minute of time added at the end, A header from Marocas being tipped over the bar by ´keeper Turossi. For their part, Louletano also had only one shot on target, the one that went in, nineten minutes into the second half.

A fairly decent crowd for this level, I would say around 300, watched the game at Loulé Municipal Stadium, on a dry and sometimes bumpy pitch. Louletano's normal venue, the Algarve Stadium, was not available because Portugal's match with Luxembourg tonight.

Imortal did field a couple of 'reserve' players as did their opponents. There wasn't much to write about for the first 45 minutes. Neither team created much in the final third. Louletano's number 8, Paulo Matos the eventual goalscorer, displayed some nice footwork to beat three defenders close to goal, but poked the final touch wide. Imortal's Fábio Santos saw a 25 metre effort whistle just past the post. A close range heder from Imortl midfielder Cortez hit the goalpost with the 'keeper beaten and rebounded to safety. Towards the end of the half there was a sudden spate of free kicks conceded by Imortal, Louletano could not take advantage. A rare goood move by Imortal was spoiled by Bruno Pereira not looking across the line and finding himself miles offside when Tidjane Baldé passed. Louletano's right winger Mhleli Mabuza caused a few problems, hit one over the bar from long range but generally neither goalkeeper was troubled.

Louletano won three quick corners at the start of the second half, nothing came of them. The opening minutes of the second period were pretty poor to be honest. Then a goal almost out of nothing. Louletano pressed into the attack, a shot was blocked and the rebound fell to Matos, who fairly hammered it in, low and hard from around 23 metres. Unstoppable.

Imortl's response was not good enough. Passing was poor, players robbed too easily. Head coach Ricardo Moreira kicked the side of the dugout in frustration more than once. The last ten minutes were approaching when a long ball out of defence by Fadigas almost broke the line, but Turossi came out to claim. Seven minutes of the ninety left, Imortal replaced the tired legs of Kaio Xavier and Williams Fadini with Marco Andrade and Brayan Vera. Louletano were doing their best to disrupt Imortal's efforts to get an equaliser, all the old tricks. Six minutes of added time were announced. We even saw one of their players pulled up for taking a throw from the wrong place, it being reversed and handed to Imortal. I had almost forgotten that the law was the throw should be take where the ball went off. Here the law seems to be not less than 10 metres nearer the opponents goal.   Imortal weren't getting anywhere until a free kick floated in by Santos found the head of Marocas a few metres out, but it was saved. Nothing resulted from the corner. The six minutes eventually became eight, the final whistle went, Imortal haven't won yet this season.

Plus points for Imortal - good defending by Pedro Rodrigues and Miguel Gonçalves, Xavier ran himself into the ground and Santos looks to have a good style about him for taking corners and free kicks ino the box. Minus points and the big ones, too slow and too predictable in the build-up, players unwilling to take a chance and do the unexpected.

Next game for Imortal is a home League match v GD Fabril, from Barreiro up near Lisbon. Sunday 17th September, ko 1500hrs / 3pm.

Imortal line-up (I will do this from now on)

Lucas Teixeira (GK); Pedro Rodrigues (Capt.); Bruno Pereira: Leandro 'Ari' Cortez; Afonso Fadigas; Miguel Gonçalves; Fábio Santos; Mario (Marocas) Duarte; Kaio Xavier; Tidjane Baldé; Williams Fadini. Subs used - Diego Prates; Brayan Vera; Tomas Mendes; Dario Bernando; Marco Andrade.

Match stats

Free kicks conceded : Imortal 15, Louletano 8
Offside : Imortal 5, Louletano 1
Shots on target : Imortal 1, Louletano 1
Shots off target : Imortal 3, Louletano 5
Shots blocked : Imortal 0, Louletano 1
Corners : Imortal 3; Louletano 7
Yellow cards : Imortal 1, Louletano 1
Red cards : none

Some pictures.

Loulé Municipal Stadium

As you can see from the pictures, it has a disused banked cycle track around it. I haven't seen one any other football ground I gave been to. The main stand was much more busy twenty minutes later.

A final word for the home team before kick-off.

The teams line up.

Imortal's starting eleven.

Good tackle! Made him jump. I was too far away from the action with my lttle camera for decent action pictures.

Crowded penalty area, typical of the game, no way through.

And again. Fadigas I think it is with the defensive header.

Yesterday

Imortal 0 - 0 GD Fabril - more later. I wasn't there though, being in UK suffering a very poor performance by Tonbridge in the FA Cup.

Imortal have no game next weekend, having been put out of the Cup themselves.

Here's some history for you. In 2020, Imortal DAC (sports club) celebrated it's centenary. Published recently, there is an on line 'exhibition' of photos and text at https://new.express.adobe.com/webpage/em8KWJf0yxXZL

Includes the basketball and roller hockey teams - look out for the photos of the roller hockey team playing in the street. I am pretty certain that's the Avenida 25 de Abril.

Sunday 1st October

Vìtoria Setubal 2 -1 Imortal Albufeira

I was unable to go, being in UK. A narrow defeat which leaves Imortal next to bottom and without a win this season. Imortal went behind on 38 minutes, Leandro 'Ari' Cortez equalised on 78 but the hosts hit the winner on 87 minutes. Nine minutes of time added at the end, Imortal couldn't come back.

Yes, it's the same Vítoria Setubal who a few seasons ago were in the Primera Liga but were relegated, then demoted further for financial misdoings.

Next Sunday Imortal will be at home to Louletano, ko 3pm / 1500hrs hoping to avenge the recent one-nil defeat in the FA Cup.

Hi Cubsur,

For entrance Sunday is it best to have some Euro's or do they take card for entry and any drink outlet/clubhouse?

I'll be travelling from Olhos De Agua so will likely taxi or bus to the ground or nearby - do most turn up at kick off or is there much to do pre-match?

Many Thanks - looking forward to it

Cash only, €7 for adults. There is the clubhouse bar right in front of you at the top of the steps at the entrance. Not much to do before the game, most turn up 20 - 30 minutes before. I aim to be there around 1430 as I am meeting someone.

The number 6 bus from Olhos DÁgua won't get you to the stadium stop until 1452. There is  a bus back to Olhos D'Agua at 1707, fine given that matches now don't end until 1655!

The bus stop is outside the stadium, to the left and left again. on the wide road. You need the one furthest from the stadium wall. Make sure you signal the driver as the bus comes, or they will not stop. Bus fare is €2,40 again cash only.
