Imortal 0 - 3 Farense  - early goals put Farense firmly in charge which they they maintained for almost the whole game, allowing only brief flashes from Imortal.

IMORTAL 0 - 3 FARENSE

Pictures and no doubt video later at https://www.facebook.com/imortalfans/ and https://pt-pt.facebook.com/FutebolImortalDesportivoClube

Imortal were three down before thirty minutes had passed, by then the game was already lost. Farense had everything well under control. Imortal managed only one decent goalscoring opportunity, midway through the second half when Marocas brought a good block out of Farense goalkeeper Defendi, the rebound was diverted for a corner.

A decent crowd, not as many as forecast but still over 1,000 and a good number from Farense in loud voice. The pitch looked good.

But the day started badly for Imortal. After only six minutes, a sweeping move down the left, a good cross and a shot by John Velásquez (the official website credited the goal to someone else!) was deflected past helpless Pereira in the Imortal goal.

Farense were obviously keen on a good start and piled on the pressure. Imortal were barely out of their own half. But they had to wait until the halfway mark for their second. A long ball down the middle, perhaps a slight mix-up between defender and ´keeper but Pereira (sporting his favourite number 99 orange shirt) had to come just outside the area to try to head clear. But it was a weak one, falling at the feet of Marco Matias, who cracked the ball low and hard into an empty net from 25 yards. Heads dropped and it was only three minutes more when Matias struck again, after the Imortal defence had virtually dissolved.

Imortal did recover enough to mount one decent attack, good work down the left by and a good cross by Domingues set up Tidjane Baldé ten yards out. His first attempt was a wild air shot, but his 360º spin gave him a second chance, which was sent high and wide. Baldé had another chance a few minutes later, but again shot wide.

The second half started very messily. Until then, I thought the referee was better than what is normally seen down here but within ten minutes of the restart there had been ten free kicks awarded plus two yellow cards for Farense, all for nothing much. Ailton Tavares, Imortal defender, won some olés for some slightly too fancy play when beating opponents.

Whether it was Farense sitting back and letting Imortal do all the work, or Imortal simply playing better I am not sure, but overall Imortal had the better of the second 45 minutes.  They had more shots and more corners, but apart from Marocas' effort and another that hit the post late on, did little to trouble the visitors defence.  There was one curiosity almost at the end, an indirect free kick awarded inside the penalty area to Imortal, not something I recall seeing in many moons. Pedro Rodrigues took it after the initial tap of the ball, but it was too close for there to be any space to see the goal

For their part, Farense did almost score a fourth on a counter-attack, but the shot by Lucão hit the post and went safely away.

Despite there having been five yellow cards, four stoppages for substitutions and one injury break, the referee added only three minutes. Not that it mattered, the game had long since been over.

Match statistics

Free kicks conceded : Imortal 21, Farense 17
Offside : Imortal 1, Farense 2

I must add that there was no profiteering on the part of Imortal. Home fans were charged  the normal €5, visitors €10. That's what both would normally pay to watch their team.

Except at Ferreiras where it is now €7 for non-members!

IMORTAL 2  - 2 LAGOS

Early kickoffs obviously don't agree with Imortal! The defence looked to be asleep as the visitors went into a two-nil lead within ten minutes.  Imortal recovered to play better in the second half, scoring a penalty and the second two minutes later, but had late scare right at the end when Lagos, by then down to ten men, brought out two good block saves from goalkeeper Pereira.

The two Lagos goals were very similar.  A break down the left by Garcia, a low hard cross that went between defenders and goalkeeper and a fairly easy tap in at the far post, the first by Nhayson Rosa and the second by Herlander Tome.

Anothe blow for Imortal came shortly after the two goals, midfielder Williams Fadini being forced off with an injury. He was replaced by Ricardo Ramos.

People were still coming into the ground at this time, obviolusly not bothered about missing something and there were some puzzled looks when told the score! Then came a icy and heavy shower, making life fairly unpleasant on and off the pitch. Neither team was playing forcefully enough, being content to go sideways and backwards and not lose the ball. On the rare occasions Imortal did set up an attacking move, there was no finish.  Two nil down at half time and much debate among the crowd of about 200.

The second half started with another heavy shower and two yellow cards after a squabble between Domingues for Imortal and Tome for Lagos.

Breakthrough for Imortal came ten minutes into the half when Lagos defender Lucas Carvalho earned a second yellow card for a high challenge in the penalty area. Off he went. Penalty taker Bernado did one of those stuttering run-ups that make you think 'he's going to fluff it' but he didn't, straight and true it went.

The equaliser came two minutes later. Some sloppy play in the Lagos midfield, a loose ball poked forward from Udokporo suddently presented the ball to Kuiate, unmarked and about 15 yards out. He steered it first time past the helpless goalkeeper.

Despite being reduced to ten men, Lagos continued to attack, with sub Pedro Duarte and the scorer of the second goal Tome causing problems down the right, but like Imortal they had nobody in the box. The game gradually degenerated into a series of petty fouls with five more yellow cards in the space of ten minutes, including one for Lagos 'keeper Ferreira who more than once tried to steal twenty yards at a free kick.

Imortal had most of the play in the final twenty minutes or so, but were again too hesitant in possession. There was time for Lagos to mount two dangerous attacks, foiled by excellent block saves by Nélio Perieira in Imortal's goal.

Overall, a fairly messy game with more yellow and red cards than shots on target.

Imortal's next match is away at Juventude Évora next Sunday. In the Algarve Cup Imortal have been drawn away to Odiáxere, match scheduled for Wednesday 2nd November.

IMORTAL 0 - 1 LUSITANO ÉVORA

Couldn't pass, couldn't shoot straight! Not a good display by any means. And the one goal of the game was a product of terrible defending. It's going to be a long old season by the feel of it.

A warm and suny afternoon, the pitch in very good condition.

Imortal started with what on paper was an attacking line-up. Early pressure brought early free kicks just outside the area, but twice Torres curled the kick just over the bar. Neither team really made much of an impression in the minutes that followed. The visitors were defending deep. A counter attack by Lusitano was blocked for a corner, a poor header on from the initial corner was collected by Vieira, but his effort was just over as well.

Lusitano went ahead just before the half hour. A great run down the right by Ribeiro, unopposed, allowed him to send in a perfect cross to Anibal Andre, unmarked on the six yard line. His header was perfect, Imortal's keeper Pereira had no chance.

Highlight of the remaining quarter-hour was a booking for visiting player Farinha for volubly suggesting to the referee that he should have stopped play for an 'injury' down the other end while Imortal were mounting a rare attack.

Lacking lustre, Imortal made two changes at half time, taking off Cabral and Bernado, replaced by Kuiate and Santos. Kuiate had a shot just over early in the second half, supplied by Tidjane Baldé's cross. That early chance was the only one for many minutes. The same two combined midway through the half, but this time Baldé was just wide from ten yards.

Ramos was having a poor game in left midfield and was replaced by Fadini, who did manage to improve the poor passing a bit. But still the finish wasn't there.

Then Lusitano started the party pieces of eight, ten and twelve pass moves around the field, leaving Imortal chasing shadows. One such ended with Pereira having to make an excellent save low down at the post, or it would have been two- nil for sure. Imortal responded, Kuiate had a good effort blocked for a corner and then a header from 15 yards again just over. Tavares send a long range effort just too high.

Imortal were much more direct in the closing minutes, which nearly paid off,. That should have been the tactic from much earlier. Packed defence by the visitors, amid the scrum Marocas just couldn't quite get his toe onto a loose ball. As the end of normal time approached, Santos sent in a very good ball from the Imortal right wing, but  'keeper Semedo dived into the mob to seize the ball. Then he had the customary sit down and trainer's attention!

Six minutes of added time were announced. The visitors tried keep ball at the Imortal end but failed. Imortal couldn't take advantage. The final whistle came with a groan from the home fans and cheers from the small number who had made the trip down south.

Imortal's next game is away at Serpa next Sunday. Serpa are sixth and unbeaten at home so far.

Match statistics

Free kicks conceded : Imortal 8, Lusitano 17
Offside : Imortal 1, Lusitano 2
Shots on target: Imortal 0, Lusitano 2 (that sort of game!)
Shots off target : Imortal 9, Lusitano 3
Shots blocked : Imortal 2, Lusitano 5
Corners : Imortal 3, Lusitano 5
Yellow cards : Imortal 3, Lusitano 4

Serpa 0 - 1 Imortal

Obviously I could not go. Looks like a typical fun Portuguese game. Imortal had Elvis Odukporo sent off after just five minutes, lost Williams Fadini to a second yellow after 84 minutes with Bruno Torres registered as scoring the vital goal at the same time. There were four more yellows for Imortal and three for the home side.

Imortal go up to 9th, with nine points from seven matches. Next Sunday Imortal will be at home to Atlético, standing fourth in the league. Kickoff is currently shown on the official site as 1500hrs.

IMORTAL 0 -1 ATLÉTICO CP

Imortal's lack of goals is becoming a big problem. Only one goal scored in the last four games, three of which were one-nil defeats. Maybe a bit of luck on Sunday would have helped, but hitting the crossbar and shooting tamely does not.

Wing back Tidjane Baldé had the chances in the first half, but was foiled by the crossbar then the visting´keeper Nelson Pinhao. Just before half time, the Atlético head coach was sent off for interfering with an an attempt by Imortal to take a quick throw. Moments later, Kuiate shot tamely at the goalkeeper when clean through. By the end of the half Imortal had had seven shots, only two of which were on target. The visitors defence was well organised. They have conceded only six goals in nine league games.

Imortal started the second half well, Torres was on target but Pinhao saved well. Then came a bad collision between Imortal's goalkeeper Pereira and Atlético forward Neves. Neves was through one on one, Pereira was a little slow getting off his line and went down at the forward's feet to block. Unforunately he took an accidental blow to the head, which put him on the ground receiving attention for several minutes. He was able to walk, supported and unsteady, from the pitch and was replaced by Matheus Bova.

Atlético gradually took control, created several good attacks but were let down by some terrible crosses. When that aspect of their game improved, the Imortal defence was in trouble. On the half hour, defender Pedro Rodrigues made an uncharacteristic error, letting a man past him. This time the cross was good, low to the near post and bundled in from a small scrum by Luis Rodrigues.

Imortal responded, Tidjane Baldé had a good run into the box that caused a bit of a panic, but then he slipped at the vital moment as he tried to shoot.

The game then became very silly, with no fewer than six yellow cards dished out in the closing twenty minutes. The referee, who up until then had a decent game, seemed to be penalising anything and everything, to the annoyance of both teams and the fans.

The long stoppage for the injury, plus the numerous other incidents, called for 13 minutes time to be added, which eventually became 15. Imortal resorted to hoofing the ball upfield at every opportunity but no-one was there. Torres was reduced to arm waving in frustration. Final whistle and off we trudged to kick the dog.

Next weekend sees another fun trip to the Azores to play Angrense on Sunday morning. Imortal's next home game will be on Sunday 4th December against current leaders Cd Rabo Peixe, also from the Azores. (Rabo Peixe translates literally as fish tail. I wonder...)

Imortal's game on Sunday 3rd will be a 12noon ko to fit in with the travel arrangments for the visitors from the Azores.

Their trip yesterday to those islands was moderately successful in that another point was gained in a 0-0 draw. Imortal have scored just one goal in their last five league games and conceded three. Exciting stuff!

Next week's visitors are top of the League, with 17 goals for and just four against.

IMORTAL 3 - 3 RABO PEIXE

The good news was that Imortal scored more goals yesterday than in the five previous league games put together, the bad news was a very leaky defence. In fact, all the goals from both sides could be put down to defensive or goalkeeping mistakes. A draw came from the jaws of victory. Imortal were leading 3-2 as we went into time added at the end, the visitors equalised within the first minute which did mean some nervy moments until the final whistle. A decent result against the league leaders, but we could have won.

Imortal did play a lot better than recently, which wasn't difficult. They were much more positive than of late, getting onto the front foot and creating chances. Elvis Odukporo, restored after a suspension, was particularly influential.  Xavier made a useful contribution from the left wing.

An early kickoff, needed so that the men from Azores could get home, obviously doesn't suit the football watching public here. There were perhaps 60 or 70 in the stand, about half the normal number. Four of Albufeira´s finest were on hand to keep order. The pitch was a bit dry, it was sunny and windy with no rain until the closing minutes.

Imortal were on the attack from the first whistle. Sandro Cabral had an early chance but shot wide. Some fairly robust challenges were being allowed by the referee. From one of these the  ball broke to Xavier, who twisted a defender inside out, put in a good cross to which Mario Duarte (Marocas) only had to apply the lightest touch with his head to opening the scoring. The lead was doubled on 18 minutes when Odukporo broke a rather flimsy offside trap, leaving him a thirty yard run at the goalkeeper. He kept his nerve to slide the ball past the helpless 'keeper. Two nil up against the league leaders after 18 minutes!

He nearly scored again ten minutes later after a mazy run that ended with his shot being blocked for a corner. Until this point, Imortal had dominated the game to such an extent that the visitors had not had a single effort at goal. Some good one and two touch football was being played. Four minutes before the end of the half, Rabo Peixe won a free kick wide right. It was taken well, floated into the near post and headed in by Pedro Tavares, unmarked. Still, 2-1 up at half time and playing well. Words were obviously had in the visitors dressing room at half time, long words they must have been too, their players coming out several minutes after the referee and Imortal.

They were level within two minutes of the re-start. A long range shot by Andrade was fumbled by Imortal's goalie Pereira straight to Mosquera, who had a simple tap in from three yards. Pereira redeemed himself with a good save from Medeiros, Imortal were under pressure. Then Odukporo was on the scene again, once more slipping an attempted offside trap to put Imortal back into the lead. Imortal made a couple of changes just after the hour, including Mateus Vieira, whose first contribution was to give away a free kick swiftly followed by a second foul and a booking. Things became a bit heated and the referee's early leniency changed to yellow cards. Odukporo was flattened in one challenge, the ball broke to Rabo Peixe, they stormed up field, Pereira unwisely came out of the area and was sent the wrong way. The shot came in but luckily it was poor. Pedro Rodrigues cleared off the line, then was booked for protesting about the earlier incident.  Sando Cabral was hacked down, the offender booked. After a mass of substitutions had slowed the game down, it became end to end stuff as Imortal sought the decisive goal and Rabo Peixe the equaliser. That nearly came from a curling shot that hit the corner of post and bar with everyone motionless. Four minutes of added time were announced, prompting protests from the visitors bench. Should have been more they said.

Didn't matter. A minute in and Imortal's defence was rent asunder, giving Tavares a simple chance for his second of the day and Rabo Peixe the point that kept them in top spot.

Match Statistics

Free kicks conceced : Imortal 12, Rabo Peixe 7 a very low count by normal standards!
Offside : Imortal 7 (far too many especially in the first half), Rabo Peixe 0
Shots on target : Imortal 3, Rabo Peixe 4
Shots off target : Imortal 2, Rabo Peixe 2
Shots blocked : Imortal 2, Rabo Peixe 0
Corners : Imortal 5, Rabo Peixe 4
Yellow cards : Imortal 4, Rabo Peixe 1

Imortal's next game is the Algarve Cup Second round match on Wednesday night against OS 11 Esperanças ko 2030hrs, followed on Sunday by a trip to Barreiro to play GD Fabril.

GD Fabril 0 - 2 Imortal

Obviously I couldn't go, but the data on the league website says that Fabril conceded an own goal in the first minute and that Mario Duarte (Marocas) added the second from the penalty spot on 22 minutes. A welcome win, a clean sheet and now only one defeat in the last five games.

The card count was as per normal, five for the home team and two for Imortal.

Next game is on SATURDAY 17th at home to Olhanense ko 1500hrs / 3pm.

Now back to the cricket!

Absolute disgrace! Just because José Mourinho's lot have had the stadium booked for practice matches that no-one will watch, Imortal must decamp to that absolute dump at Lagoa at 36 hours notice. Somebody should have realised much earlier that there would be a problem. I cannot go having agreed to play a bowls match whuch finished an hour ago, not leaving enough time to get there We are not amused.

Agreed - very poor show.

Still, at least they won. 2-0, same goalscorers as last week (kind of), Marocos and an OG.
