Hello, I’m planning my summer vacation to Portugal (Algarve). I don’t know whether to rent a car or use the local public transport given that it is very convenient. For example, the airport transfer is very cheap
Then we would like to use the bike to move around, is it possible? What do you think? Thanks in advance for your suggestions! |

Airport transfer with Terravision etc is cheap but it is not public transport.
You will find that it is possible to use trains and buses to move around but in many areas, especially at weekends, services are limited. Take a look at www.algarvebus.info for information. Some parts of the Algarve (for example around here in Albufeira) are very hilly and not ideal for bikes. You can hire a bike in Albufeira. There are two hire shops in town I know of. One is in the old town at Avenida de Liberdade and the other on the main road across town near McDonald's. You need to organise our accommodation is coming here in Summer. Many hundreds of thousands of people will have already booked their stays. |

By the time you have paid transfers if you feel confident driving you are better hiring a car IMO. Depends how long your stay is.
Gives you much more freedom to visit other places at your own pace rather than relying on public transport. Just my observation I don`t think I would be keen cycling over here in the summer when the roads are busy.

What dates?
From experience you really won't want to be cycling mid June, through July, August and to mid September, the temperatures just aren't, never mind conducive, they are positively prohibitive for such activity! |
