Is it possible to hire a car from Faro airport that doesn't involve the large excess attached?

Yes, I use http://www.drive4fun.info/ no problem with excesses - all included.

They also make it easy to use the toll roads with a pre-paid transponder.

You also pay on collection, so no risk of losing your money online etc.

I bought an annual Excess insurance - only cost £40 and covers excess anywhere in Europe. This makes it easier than having to find just low excess car hire companies

Agreed, and you can even choose Drive4Fun too. It will be better value than booking direct.

Like RichardK I also purchased an annual Excess policy, as I hire cars quite a lot each year.
But you can also buy it for one off trips.
I used Reduce My Excess.

I also use a cash back website when buying online, so I received approx 8% cash back by going via www.topcashback.co.uk first.

Have checked Avis prices before but found them higher than others. Had another look day before yesterday small car 7 days rental £60. Had no hesitation booking. Got my rental voucher stating £60. But crossed my mind a few hours after, If it's too good to be true.......
Checked again with same details £108. Still a bit dubious I got a car for that price. Was it a glitch in the system.
Never put off something that you could do today
