Whats happened to their discipline, Tom? When I was over there were no signs of this latest negativity creeping in. Cant be doing an Arsenal, can they?

Good point. Several games with barely a card in sight then it all kicks off. Someone will have to be held responsible if promotion is denied with such a lead and only six games to go. Saturday at Ferreiras will be a defining moment.

A bit of a setback today - Ferreiras 2 - 1 Imortal. The gap between Imortal and Ferreiras is now 9 points with five games to play. Derpived of several key players simply because of indiscipline, Imortal were not quite up to the task. Several chances missed, a couple of defensive slips and the game was lost. Report Monday.

FERREIRAS 2 - 1 IMORTAL ALBUFEIRA
You can find the recorded TV broadcast at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OypERN4gfwA&t=8141s A setback for Imortal in the quest for the Algarve League Championship and promotion. The gap between Imortal and second placed Ferreiras is now only 9 points with five games remaining. The two meet in the final game of the season. It was always going to be hard work for Imortal, missing so many players through injury and suspension. That was particularly felt in defence, where Abreu found himself stationed at left-back in only his second start since mid-December. Salvador and Sequeira are able deputies in the back line, but they missed the guiding hand of captain Pedro Rodrigues, suspended after his 5th yellow card accrued last week. A good crowd and a sunny day. It was a bit windy though. The first twenty minutes were pretty inconsequential as teams tested out the other. What goal-bound efforts there were caused the 'keepers no problem. For Imortal, Walter Alves was his usual very busy self and it was he who set up the first real chances after 21 minutes. Setting off down the left, he eluded two defenders to send in a low, hard cross. Efforts were blocked by defenders, goalkeeper Nunes collected the loose ball. Santos had imortal's next opportunity after good work by Quiteque, his shot was also blocked. Quiteque just missed connecting with another low cross from Alves, Nunes just got there first resulting in a bit of collision. No harm done. At the other end, David Vieira's tame effort went over the crossbar. Should have done better given the time and space he had. There was a minor panic in Imortal's defence when Abreu and ´keeper Inácio were on different wavelengths looking at a loose ball. Luckily for Imortal, Inácio was able to clear with his foot. The game was pretty much end to end by this point. A breakout down the right by Imortal gave Diogo Luz the chance to make good ground and send in a cross to the near post, which was met by the head of Mario Duarte with a classic centre forward´s header for his 22nd goal of the season. Much joy amongst the visiting fans. Moments later, Alves was clattered while trying an outrageous shot from the half way line, which wasn't far off at all, with Nunes off his line. Yellow card shown to the perpetrator, Rafael Texeira. Roughness was also meted out to Duarte, an arm to the face by Amaro Viana, yellow card. Ferreiras striker Rosario Miguel wasted two clear cut scoring chances as the half came to a close. Inácio and Afonso Calvinho of Ferreiras were both yellow carded after an altercation, which seemed to continue in the tunnel at half time. Alves started the half, well on the case of a second Imortal goal but it was an ex-Imortal player Rafael Rangel who struck first, eight minutes in. Good work on the right by Rosario, cross came in and should have been dealt with by the three defenders close to Rangel. A little bit of hesitancy gave him the room for a good shot on the turn from near the penalty spot, Inácio had no chance. Ferreiras then made three changes, sensing perhaps that Imortal were struggling. Back into defensive mode for Imortal, as last week. The wind was stronger now and in Ferreiras' favour. There was one chance for Duarte, who judged the bounce of a long clearance better than the defender against him. He spun and shot first time from 25 metres but it went just wide. But it was almost all one way now. Luz missed a tackle in midfield, giving Pires the time to send in a cross from the left wing towards the far post. It was sent back in by Rosario and fell nicely to Rangel for a tap in finish. He was booked for taking his shirt off in celebration. When will they learn? Vieira should have made it three for Ferreiras but he had strayed offside. Inácio made a super save right at the end to deny William Junior, another former Imortal player. Right at the end, Calvinho was sent off for his second yellow card and, unseen by us, there was more trouble as the players left the field with Diogo Luz of Imortal and Vieira of Ferreiras both seeing red. A mighty scrum had surrounded the match officials at the end. Imortal will still be missing a few for next Saturday's trip to Olhanense, but Rodrigues and Coelho should be available after suspension plus defender Dragnev was an unused substitute today. Herlander Tome must have been carrying an injury as he played only the last 15 minutes. Ricardo Ramos continued his comeback with half an hour on the field. All could be featuring next weekend. KO is 1600hrs / 4pm at the Estádio José Arcanjo in Olhão. By the way, there is still no date known for the Algarve Cup Final! Imortal team : Inácio; Prates, Sequeira, Salvador, Abreu; Nascimento, Alves, Luz, Santos; Duarte, Quiteque. Subs used : Herlander Tome, Ramos, Silveira. Match statistics Free kicks conceded : Imortal 5, Ferreiras 9 - the ref was a bit lenient. Offside : Imortal 0, Ferreiras 1 Shots on target : Imortal 6, Ferreiras 8 Shots off target : Imortal 3, Ferreiras 5 Shots blocked : Imortal 3, Ferreiras 1 Corners : Imortal 1, Ferreiras 8 Yellow cards Imortal 1, Ferreiras 3 Red cards : Imortal 1, Ferreiras 2 |

Discipline update : Diogo Luz and Calvinho of Ferreiras both received three match suspensions for their punch-up after last Saturday's game. Goalkeeper David Inacio received his 5th yellow card of the season and will be suspended for Saturday's game at Olhanense. Those sanctioned for their part in the mass brawl after the Quarteirense match have appealed against their sentences. If the club loses out on promotion because of this outburst of sendings-off and suspensions, they have no-one else to blame!

OLHANENSE 2 - 1 IMORTAL
Second defeat in a row and Imortal now only six points ahead of Ferreiras with four games to go. Two enforced changes for Imortal over last week. First choice goalkeeper David Inacio suspended after his 5th yellow card collected last week. Diogo Alves deputised. Diogo Luz served the first of his three match suspension resulting from the after match altercation last Saturday, Pedro Rodrgiges came back after his suspension. Also back was José Coelho. Ricardo Ramos made only his third league start of the season and was the scorer. A very unwelcoming place! On arrival at what we innocently thought to be the entrance, we were told that ´non-members' i.e. visiting fans had to go around to a separate gate. That required a five minute walk around almost the entire perimeter of the ground to finish up not 50 metres from where we started, but on the other side of a fence. There are no signs, no indications are to where to go. The final few metres was down an insalubrious alley alongside the local prison! When we got there, the couple staffing the ticket office and bar were friendly enough. Inside there is nothing for the visitor except bare concrete terracing, steep enough to deter a mountain goat. No handrails, nothing to help those less able to gain their 'seats'. Not the best picture because of the shadows. The remainder of the main stand was to our right, with proper seats for the 300 or so fans from the home side. Our bit. ![]() And the miserable so-and-so's didn't even announce our team! There were about 40 Imortal fans in attendance including a boisterous group of English chaps out for a day on the beer, which they managed well. Only a couple were spilled. ![]() Overall, it was a game of very few scoring opportunities. Walter Alves, who was his usual very energetic self, showed a neat skill in chipping the ball over a defender, before heading off down the middle for goal. It took three defenders to stop him. So busy was he that, by the end of the game, three different players had been yellow carded for fouling him. There was a big let off for Imortal on 16 minutes. A mistake on half way by Nascimento presented the ball to Leandro Jesus. He saw Diogo Alves off his line and launched a shot from all of 45 metres. It sailed high over Alves, only bounce off the top of the crossbar to safety. Big relief all round for those in red. Imortal went ahead on 25 minutes. A great run down the left by Silveira, a good low cross that somehow eluded defenders and goalkeeper and there was Ramos at the far post to bundle it home. Ramos had another good chance ten minutes later, but Olhanense 'keeper Maia just got there first. Just before half time, Ivan Francisco outran Pedro Rodrigues down the right wing, his cross was good, but Imortal's other defenders dealt well with the threat. The game had been played mostly in midfield and it wasn't until the 13th minute of the second half that the first corner was won, going to Olhanense. Mario Duarte had half a chance to score in a goalmouth scramble, but his toe-poke went just wide. Walter Alves was a constant threat the opposition, who decided that he had to go. Midway through the second half he was hacked down, to be followed swiftly by two more such incidents. Yellow cards were dished out in each case. Diogo Alves rescued Imortal, grabbing the ball out of a scramble at the other end when it looked like Olhanense would surely score. Walter Alves finally had to leave the field after being battered and bruised. Ninety minutes were up and six added minutes announced. No sooner had that started than an Imortal player pulled up off the ball. From my angle, I couldn't see who it was, the video clip from Olhanense neither, but he had to be stretchered off. That created a problem. Imortal had used the last of their sub windows when Dragnev replaced Walter Alves five minutes earlier. So it was ten men for the added time. Olhanense sniffed blood. A big cross in from the right and a close range header by Hugo Matias put them level. Two minutes later, with the Imortal midfield in disarray, Paulo Forra latched on to a loose ball and hit a screamer from 25 metres that three goalkeepers wouldn't have stopped. Wild celebrations from home fans and players, Imortal flat out on their feet. A game that Imortal could have won, with a bit more application while Olhanense were very poor in the first half. Mario Duarte was closely marked and rarely showed. Ramos lasted only an hour. Herlander Tome replaced him and also failed to show up. The safe twelve point lead of two weeks ago is now down to six points. A win next Saturday at Silves is pretty much essential. Kick off for that one is at 5pm. Imortal will have José António and Ricardo Tome available after their three match bans. Ferreiras will be at home to Lagos next weekend and fully expecting the win. Imortal team : Diogo Alves; Prates, Rodrigues, Sequeira, Silveira; Nascimento, Coelho, Walter Alves, Abreu; Duarte, Ramos. Subs used Dragnev, Quiteque, Herlander Tome. Match statistics Free kicks conceded : Imortal 11, Olhanense 14 Offside : Imortal 3, Olhanense 0 Shots on target : Imortal 3, Olhanense 3 Shots off target : Imortal 1, Olhanense 2 Shots blocked : Imortal 1, Olhanense 0 Corners : Imortal 1, Olhanense 2 Yellow Cards : Imortal 2, Olhanense 4 |
