It was busy down at the town beach on Sunday. The inflatable water park is open, €15 an hour and you have to swim 50 metres out to it. Plenty of boats scudding about.                |

Hi Cubcur.
What year did the council pump a load of sand on to the beach and what was the cost. As it looks like they will have to repeat it as most of the beach by the lift has disappeared.

It was 15 years ago that the beach was made wider and deeper by dredging sand offshore and pumping it across. The cost was I believe in the region of 4 million Euros part financed by central government as were similar projects along the coast. Before then, high seas used to come right up to the cliffs, which were being eroded at a rapid rate. Work also included removing a lot of loose sandstone and generally stabilising the cliffs. Since then the sand has naturally re-established itself, but as you say this might not be the case after these weeks of unprecedented weather. Apparently January 2026 was the wettest Januaryfor 25 years.
