Yesterday - Olhanense 3 - 3 Imortal. Goalscorers Diogo Luz, Leandro Pimenta and Ricardo (Ruca) Tome.

That and other results mean Imortal slip to second in the table behind Quarteirense. Both teams have 22 points, Quarteirense ahead by virtue of beating Imortal early in the season. I was not able to go but hope to add some detail tomorrow.

Olhanense 3  - 3 Imortal

Some details. Imortal were denied a win in the 3rd minute of time added at the end when Olhanense equalised through Ivan Francisco.

An early goal for the hosts was matched just before halftime when Diogo Luz scored, his second goal of the season for Imortal. It remained 1-1 until the 75th minute, when Leandro Pimenta put Imortal ahead. The lead lasted only five minutes, a penalty converted by Giornny Santos restoring parity. Then, just two minutes later, Ricardo (Ruca) Tome restored the lead for Imortal having come on as a sub to replace Coelho. Then the killer blow struck by Francisco denied Imortal the win that would have kept them top of the table.

Next game for Imortal will be at home to Silves on Saturday 29th November, ko 1500hrs / 3pm.

Imortal team : Inacio; Pedro Rodrigues, Jose, Luz, Dragnev; Nascimento, Coelho, Pimenta, Herlander Tome; Ramos, Mario Duarte. Subs used : Walter Alves, Sequeira, Salvador, Ricardo Tome.

Yellow cards for Dragnev, Jose and Luz. Five Olhanense players also saw yellow.

IMORTAL 3 - 1 SILVES

An eventful match. One red card for each side before half an hour had been played and most of the match therefore played with ten men a side. Referee was very picky, 34 free kicks and several yellow cards.

Two excellent goals from Mario Duarte (aka Marocas) his first since the win on 1st November, plus one from Ricardo Tome (aka Ruca) who has now scored his last three goals after coming on as a sub.

Imortal started well, Duarte brought a fine save from the Silves 'keeper Lopes, but it was the visitors who took the lead on 21 minutes. A free kick in from the left went into a crowd of players almost on the goal-line. The ball hit a leg and deflected in past Inacio. We thought own goal, but the official record credits it to Miguel Costa.

Then came a silly five minutes. Imortal's combative midfielder Nascimento had been booked after 18 minutes, then clattered an opponent and saw yellow again. He was most reluctant to leave the field (much the same as Sr. Paqueta of West Ham on Sunday!) and he might well be in more trouble. He was followed into the early bath five minutes later by Silves' Mateus Vieira, who absolutely hacked down Walter Alves for his second yellow.

Things calmed down for a while after that, with just the one more yellow for the visitors. Almost on half time when Herlander Tome, who had been quiet, sped off down the right wing to deliver a perfect low cross to the near post, which Duarte met with a flick of the foot to send it over the line.

Tome nearly scored himself just before the interval, should have in fact. Alves beat two defenders to send in a perfect cross from the left which was smashed high and wide.

Tome missed another chance early in the second half, again set up by Alves but it wasn't long before Imortal took the lead. An excellent move down the left, a great through ball by Dragnev to Coelho, whose cross was met on the volley by Duarte six metres out. No chance for Lopes, who was reduced to waving his arms in total frustration.

The game became rather scrappy from then on. Neither side could control the ball long enough to create any decent moves. Alves managed to get himself booked after chasing an opponent for quite a distance before clipping his heels.

The midfield stalemate was broken on 70 minutes with Ruca's goal. A nice ball from Coelho down the middle, a well timed run by Ruca which broke the offside trap leaving him facing the goalie. A deft sidefoot took him out of the equation, leaving Ruca to roll the ball into an empty net.

Not much happened after that. Silves had run out of ideas, Imortal were content to keep possession and give them the run around.

A satisfying win which took Imortal to the top of the table following defeat for Quarteirense that evening.

No game for Imortal next week. Next one on 13th December will be away at Louletano B, on the second pitch in the town. a grim place and one to which I cannot go. In fact there will be no home game for Imortal until 3rd January, an important one with Quarteirense being the visitors.  Imortal will be away also on 20th December, up in Messines.

Imortal team : Inacio; Prates, Pedro Rodrigues, Jose, Dragnev; Nascimento, Coelho, Pedro Duarte, Alves; Herlander Tome, Mario Duarte. Subs used : Quiteque, Santos, Ricardo Tome, Silveira.

Match stats

Free kicks conceded : Imortal 15, Silves 19

Yesterday : Louletano B 0 - 3 Imortal, what the radio commentary described as a 'tranquil' victory. Even better news was that second placed Quarteirense conceded a penalty equaliser in added time at home to Odiáxere. Imortal are now five points clear at the top of the table, but that will be reduced to three if Ferreiras beat Silves on Wednesday night.

I was not able to go to yesterday's game, but details tomorrow.

LOULETANO B 0 - 3 IMORTAL

As I said, described on the radio as a tranquil victory. Midfielder Diogo Luz opened the scoring in the 17th minute. It was one-nil to Imortal at half time. Pedro Rodrigues, captain and centre-back, added the second with a header from a cross ten minutes into the second half. That was his first of the season. Mauro Jose scored Imortal's third and his first of the season with 12 minutes remaining.

Thomas Nascimento missed his first league game of the season following a fifth yellow card collected in the previous match. A bit of a reshuffle ensued, but no worries it seems.

Team

Inacio; Pedro Rodrigues, Dragnez, Jose, Pedro Duarte; Coelho, Quiteque, Herlander Tome, Luz;  Mario Duarte, Ricardo Tome. Subs used : Alves, Antonio, Santos, Pimenta and Luis Silveira.

Dragnev and Pedro Duarte collected yellow cards. One of the Louletano players saw yellow after just two minutes. Four of his colleagues followed at various intervals.

Next for Imortal is a trip up to Messines, next Saturday at 1500hrs. I probably won't be able to go. The last bus on Saturdays back to Albufeira is at 1630!

Messinenses 0 - 2 Imortal scorers Herlander Tome and Ricardo (Ruca) Tome.

A draw for Ferreiras at home to Odiáxere means that Imortal are now five points clear at the top of the table. They have 31 points, Ferreiras and Quarteirense both have 26. No game next weekend, then it's a home game v Quarteirense on Saturday 3rd January,.ko 1230.

The game on Saturday was recorded by local TV station Conectv.

For some reason the first 13 minutes are missing. Imortal are in red shirts.

It's a fairly dull game overall, so fast forward to the 37th minute and watch until half time.

Imortal team : Inacio; Pedro Rodrigues, Jose, Dragnev, Luz; Nascimento, Coelho, Herlander Tome, Pimenta; Mario Duarte, Ricardo Tome. Subs used : Prates, Pedro Duarte, José António, Santos, Silveira.

As we have a week off, some statistics for the season so far.

Played 14, won 12 drawn 1, lost 1. Goals scored 33, goals conceded 7.

Sixteen different players have scored. Top scorers are Mario Duarte (a.k.a. Marocas) and Ricardo Tome (Ruca) both with 5, Cláussio Abreu with 4. Abreu scored all his in one game and has not been seen since late November, when he was an unused sub.

23 different players have started, 21 different names have come off the bench. Ten players, the  core of the team, have started in 10 or more games. Good to have consistency and let's hope it will carry on through the season.

Imortal 1 - 2 Quarteirense

Only the second defeat of the league season for Imortal and a disappointing one at that. Plenty of chances to score, only one taken. Two lapses in defence cost them. A fracas at the end of the game in front of the visitors bench cost Diego Prates a red card.

After all the rain, the pitch was slippery in places but overall a good surface. The game started well for Imortal on a fairly bright afternoon. Twelve minutes had passed when a long clearance from defence found Herlander Tome open on the right wing. He spotted Ricardo Tome (Ruca) on the other side and sent a perfect pass across. Ruca had a long way to go for goal, but kept the ball under control and kept his head to slide the ball accurately, low and hard past Turossi in the visitors goal.

Quarteirense hit back, with Guilherme Pereira heading against the crossbar with Inacio beaten. He was on target just after the half hour. Pressure from Quarteirense gained them three corners in quick succession. Their Pedro Rodrigues had a shot well saved by Inacio, low down at the post for the third. From that third corner, Fábio Madeira brought Inacio into action again. He parried, the ball broke out to the right wing from where a cross found Pereira unmarked a few metres out. His glancing header curled wide of Inacio into the net for the equaliser.

Imortal began the second half fully on the attack. Herlander Tomé was in the thick of the action. There was a good call for a penalty when he seemed to be dragged down inside the area, nothing doing. He then sent a good chance miles wide, after good work from Leandro Pimenta. Tomé was at fault more than once, either shooting way wide or high, or tamely straight at the ´keeper.

The good first fifteen minutes of the half for Imortal was soon ended. A corner was not properly cleared, leaving Diogo Marques a clear shot from ten metres out which he slammed into goal. No chance for Inacio.

Quarteirense had things under control from then on, with seven or eight men behind the ball. Their goalkeeper twice employed the now common tactic of 'injury' to create a managerial time out to keep things organised.

There was time after 85 minutes for a counter-attack towards the Imortal goal, ended by a very good run by Inacio out of goal to the touchline in front of the Quarteirense bench. He was hacked down, earning his opponent a yellow card. That may have been the cause of a fracas in the same area a couple of minutes later. Couldn't quite see what went on, but Diego Prates of Imortal exchanged words with the visitors bench, then came all the pushing and shoving, plus heated words, which even caused a couple of GNR to be making their way towards the mob. Things ended with a red card for Prates and also for one of those players on the bench.

All that was a couple of minutes before the 90. Nine minutes of added time was announced, which turned into 14 following more yellow cards, injuries and general time wasting by the visitors.

Mauro José went down in pain early into added time. He slid into a tackle and seemed to badly twist his knee. Both teams immediately stopped, players know when someone is genuinely hurt. If he is out, it's a big loss for Imortal. He has not missed a league game this season.

The very last action at six minutes past five was a free kick mysteriously awarded to Imortal just outside the area which Dragnev sent high into the darkening sky.

The noteable statistic of the second half was that Imortal conceded only one free kick, while the total for Quarteirense was 17!

Imortal have now lost twice to Quarteirense, but still stand two points above them at the top of the table. Defeat for Ferreiras means that they are now three points further behind.

Next Saturday afternoon, Imortal travel up the road for the local derby at Ferreiras, while Quarteirense will be at home to Silves whose recent record shows only one win in their last seven league matches.

Imortal Team

Inacio; Dragnev, Pedro Rodrigues, José, Prates; António, Nascimento, Pimenta, Herlander Tomé; Mario Duarte, Ricardo Tomé. Subs used : Silveira, Coelho, Walter Alves.

Match statistics

Free kicks conceded : Imortal 11, Quarteirense 22
Offside : Imortal 3, Quarteirense 2
Shots on target : Imortal 4, Quarteirense 4
Shots off target : Imortal 5, Quarteirense 2
Shots blocked : Imortal 1, Quarteirense 1
Corners : Imortal 4, Quarteirense 9
Yellow cards : Imortal 3, Quarteirense 4
Red cards : 1 each
