Coming over in a couple of weeks have the fixtures for the Algarve league been published yet? Had a look on the AFA site couldn't see anything related.

...of just replace the 100 in the original URL to 101. It's several weeks into the season and they still haven't updated the direct links on either the Portugal FA or AFA websites.

All fixtures are subject to alteration etc etc...

The draw for the third round of the FA Cup, in which the 18 top division teams join the 46 who have made it through the previous rounds, will be made at 1730hrs tonight.

Algarve teams involved :

Portimonense, Farense and from the Campeonato de Portugal (4th tier) Olhanense and Louletano.

Three teams from various District Leagues (the fifth tier) have also made it into the draw.

Matches will be played over the weekend of 16 / 17 October.

Cup draw. Nothing exciting and some long trips!

UD Oliveirense (Liga 3) v Portimonense
AD Castro Daire (CP) - Olhanense (CP)
Louletano v Estrela da Amadora (Div 2)
Cinfães (Viseu District League) v Farense

All three away trips are way up north, to the Porto and Douro areas. CP = Campeonato de Portugal (4th tier) so Olhanense will be playing a team at the same level. On the face of it, Farense and Portimonense have fairly easy tasks. The game for Louletano should be played at the Algarve Stadium.

Ties to be played over the weekend of the 16th and 17th October.

Never saw that coming. Benfica beat Barcelona 3 nil mid week in the Champions League and then get turned over by Portimonense. Goalkeeper had the match of his life. Apparently, Portimonense were 40 to 1 odds of winning. Surely that was worth a couple of quid. Up to 5 th in the league, let's hope they can continue.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES

Liga BWin

Benfica 0 - 1 Portimonense att 38, 845  The result to end all results.  The vital goal was scored in the 66th minute by Lucas Possignolo. All the numbers stacked up against Portimonense but they held out.

Video highlights at https://ligaportugal.vsports.pt/vod/70606/m/8954/liga/6d457ea93f7f3f8daa39dffe6d7b133e

They are now 5th in the League with 14 points from 8 games. No game next week because of internationals.

Portimonense did beat Benfica as recently as January 2019, 2-0 at home.  I haven't found any previous occasion of a win at Benfica but of course they were in different divisions for several seasons. Also spotted that Portimonense's U-23 team drew 1-1 with their Benfica counetrparts at the weekend.

Liga Sabseg

Vilafranquensa 2 - 2 Farense att 230 (two hundred and thirty) a late equaliser for Farense and a vital point. They are currently 17th of 18 teams with four points from seven games played.

Next weekend they have the pleasure of an 11.00am kickoff on Saturday when they host Trofense in a League game.

Campeonato de Portugal First Phase Group F

Imortal Albufeira 1 - 1 Juventude Évora report later
US Montemôr 1 - 3 Pinhalnovense
Lagos 2 - 0 Serpa
Barreirense 1 -2 Louletano
Olhanense 3 - 2 Moncarapachense

Louletano are top, 7 points from 3 games. Pinhalnovense are 2nd, Olhanense are 3rd, both on 6 points from two games. Imortal are fourth, 5 points from three games.

The only game in this League next weekend is the delayed games between Olhanense v Pinhalnovense on Saturday ko 1300hrs. Winner goes top.

ALGARVE LEAGUE

The Algarve League finally gets going next weekend.

Dvision One - all at 1500hrs on Saturday 9th

Guia v Silves
Odiáxere v Ferreiras
Culatrense v Almancil at Horta da Areia, Faro
Quarteira SC v Farense B
11 Esperanças v Quarteirense 1937 at Penha, Faro
Internacional Almancil v Louletano B
Lagoa v Lusitano VRSA

Division 2 all on Saturday 9th at various times as below

Bensafrim v Marítimo Olhanense 1500hrs
Alvorense v Carvoairo United ko 1500hrs
Paderne v Os Armacanenses ko 1600hrs
Portimonense B v Messinense ko 1800hrs
Campinense v Sambrasense at Loulé Municpal Stadium ko 1800hrs
4 ao Cubo v Quarteirense at Olhão Municipal Stadium ko 1800rs

WOMEN'S FOOTBALL

National Second Division Southern Section

Sporting B 5 -  0 Guia

Next Sunday Guia will be at home to leaders and mysteriously named RP FC playing at Ferreiras ko 1500hrs.

I was told last week that Guia FC and the local council are shortly going to address the problem of their pitch being 5 metres too short to be used for national games. They have a dispensation for Algarve League games, but the women's team must play at Ferreiras until this is resolved.

WALKING FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

At Ferreiras FC Monday and Tuesday 11th and 12th October featuring 19 teams from Portugal (including exiles and several Algarve based teams), Spain, UK and one from South Africa. 1030 - 1630 both days, free admission.

I noted as I was following the scores on Sofascore that Portimonense had a goal disallowed by VAR before the one that counted, and I was expecting the stoppage time to keep ticking on past the approx 7 minutes or so to give Benfica the chance to level, or am I just a cynic? Wink

No, that's what we all said in the local football appreciation centre when we saw what the score was. Such results are not normally permitted in Portugal. Unfortunately the game ended just before we could find the right internet channel to catch the last few minutes.

Watching live over here in the UK it was a minor miracle they held out in the last 15 minutes [tho in fairness Benfica were by far the best team throughout]. Loads of missed opportunities and scrambles in the Portimonense penalty area.
Then the minimum seven additional minutes were announced. Even the blatantly Benfica-obsessed  TV commentator was flabbergasted at that!
The ref obligingly proceeded well beyond eight minutes [obvs looking to have his complimentary Benfica season ticket renewed]. At seven minutes 45 he had his big chance ...... a coming together in front of goal, forward went over ...... certain 'big three' get-out-of-jail penalty. Only it wasnt. A fantastic last ditch touch from a defender had saved the day for Portimonense.

The first game of the season, Portimonense played Vitoria Guimaraes. Portimonense scored in the 84th minute. The ref then played an extra 11 minutes of added time. It's not just the big three. Like you when the board went up for a minimum of 7 minutes, I had a feeling it was was going to be until Benfica equalised. The ref finally blew his whistle in the 8th minute. It had all the hallmarks of " Fergie " time being used.
There is no doubt that Benfica were the better team but I suspect a few Sporting and Porto fans had a beer on Portimonense last night.
