LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEK'S GAMES

Liga BWin

Portimonense 0 - 1 Vizela att 1284. Portimonense's suffering continues! Captain Pedro Sá was sent off after just 18 minutes for a wild lunge, but it wasn't until four minutes of added time at the end had been played when the visitors scored. Portimonense now sit 14th of 18 teams but are ten points clear of the three at the bottom in the relegation zone. They have had four successive defeats and almost certainly face a fifth in their next game, away at FC Porto on Sunday afternoon 2nd April. That is itself unsual, FC Porto rarely play in daylight!

Liga Sabseg

Farense 4 - 0 BSAD att 4393 a win for Farense despite playing the last half hour with ten men. Farense remain third, one point behind Estrela Amadora and thirteen behind runaway leaders Moreirense. Next up for Farense is an away trip to bottom side Trofense on Sunday afternoon 2nd April.

Liga 3

This division enters its second phase on Sunday 2nd April when Moncarapachense faces Caldas FC in the first of six games to avoid relegation.

Results and fixtures for Algarve teams

Olhanense 2 - 3 Vasco da Gama Vidigueira

Imortal are the highest placed Algarve team, 34 points from 23 games, Lagos are 11th on 30 points, Ferreiras 13th with 16 points and bottom Olhanense with 14 points. Those last two are definitely relegated to the Algarve League.

The bottom six will be relegated. it's going to be tight, with just six points separating 5th from 11th and only three games to play.

There is only one game next weekend, out in the Azores. Praiense (9th) will be playing Rabo Peixe (4th) where victory for Praiense will put them level on points with Imortal. General fixtures resume on 2nd April.

ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION ONE Second phase

'Silver' Group

Sambrasense 4 - 1 Lagos B
Farense B 3 - 0 Alvor
AEF João Moutinho 4 - 2 Quarteirense 1937

AEF João Moutinho are top, six points from two games, in this fairly meaningless competition!

Next Saturday

Lagos B v AEF João Mountinho ko 1500hrs / 3pm
Alvor v Quarteirense 1937 ko 1500hrs / 3pm
Farense B v Sambrasense ko 1800hrs / 6pm at Penha, Faro

Imortal will be at home on Sunday 2nd to GD Fabril ko 1600hrs. I will be in Germany so not going to be there.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEK'S GAMES

Liga Bwin and Liga Sabseg

No games because of internationals.

In Liga Bwin, Portimonense's fight to avoid relegation resumes next Sunday night, April 2nd, with the nigh-on impossible tak of getting a result away at FC Porto.

As for Farense in Liga Sabseg, they will have to up early on Saturday morning for an 1100ko away at bottom side Trofense. Farense are currently third, one point behind Estrela Amadora, who visit next to bottom Covilhã on Sunday.

Liga 3

Resumes on Sunday with promotion and relegation playoff groups.

The Algarve's only team at this level, Moncarapachense, begin a six game and forlorn hope of avoiding relegation with a home game on Sunday at 1500hrs against Caldas da Rainha. They play their home games at the Olhão stadium.

Campeonato de Portugal Group 4

No games last weekend. League resumes on Sundahy with only 5 points seperating 5th from 11th. Imortal and Lagos both need a win to stay above that dotted line below which the bottom six will be relegated. Note the later kickoff times. Olhanense and Ferreiras are already doomed.

Fixtures for Algarve teams

Praiense (Azores) v Olhanense
Serpa v Ferreiras
Lagos v Rabo Peixe ko 1600hrs
Imortal v GD Fabril ko 1600hrs

ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION ONE SECOND PHASE

Promotion Group

Odíaxere 1 - 0 Silves
Louletano 3 - 1 Culatrense
Quarteirense 3 - 0 Os 11 Esperanças

Two games in and with points carried through from phase one, Louletano are a massive 17 points ahead of Quarteirense and virtually certain of gaining promotion.

Next Saturday

Silves v Louletano ko 1600hrs
Quarteirense v Odiáxere ko 1600hrs
Os 11 Esperanças v Culatrense ko 1730hrs

Relegation group

Lusitano VRSA 2 - 1 Lagoa
Almancil 0 - 3 Quarteira SC
Guia 2 -2 Internacional Almancil

Top three look safe : Lagoa 32 points, Lusitano 31 points, Quarteira SC 31 points. Then a huge gap to Guia in fourth on 18.  One can never be sure how mnay go down!

Next Saturday

Lagoa v Quarteira SC ko 1600
Internacional Almancil v Almancil ko 1600hrs
Lusitano VRSA v Guia ko 1600hrs

ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION TWO Second Phase

Promotion Group

Paderne 1 - 0 Os Armacanenses
Sport Faro Benfica 3 -2 Portimonense B
Carvoeiro United 1 - 0 Campinense

Three games played. Paderne sit on top, having won all three.

Next Saturday all at 1800hrs

Sport Faro e Benfica v Os Armacancenses
Campinense v Paderne
Portimonense B v Carvoeiro United

'Silver' Group

Lagos B 3 - 2 AEF João Mountinho
Alvor 0 - 2 Quarteirense 1937
Farense B 2 - 0 Sambrasense

After three games, four of the six teams are tied on six points.

Next Saturday

Sambrasense v Alvor ko 1600hrs
Quarteirense 1937 v Lagos B ko 1800hrs
AEF João Mountinho v Farense B ko 1800hrs

ALGARVE CUP SEMI FINAL

Louletano v Silves Wednesday 5th April ko 2030hrs at the Algarve Stadium. Winners will play Paderne in the final.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEK'S GAMES

Liga Bwin

FC Porto 1 - 0 Portimonense att 35,802 almost counts as a good result given Portimonense's recent form. They are now 14th of 18 teams, 26 points from 26 games, eight to play. They are still seven points above the relegation playoff nightmare and nine ahead of automatic relegation. Even so, a win or two would be useful! Next game will be at home to Rio Ave on Saturday 8th April at 1800hrs. Rio Ave are in a comfortable mid table position. Maybe they won't prove too difficult.

Liga Sabseg

Trofense 2 - 1 Farense att 589. A setback for Farense, who now find themselves fourth and four point off the automatic promotion places. Nice quiet little game it seems, eight bookings for the home team, three for Farense plus the head coach seeing red after the final whistle. Their next game will be at home on Friday (Good Friday) ko 1400hr when runaway leaders Moreirense come to call.

Liga 3 Second Phase

Moncarapachense 1 - 1 Caldas da Rainha first game of a six game series to see who stays up. They will be away next weekend.

Campeonato de Portugal Group D first phase

Results and fixtures for Algarve teams

Imortal Albufeira 0 - 0 GD Fabril
Lagos 0 - 0 Rabo Peixe
Praiense 5 - 0 Olhanense
Serpa 2 - 1 Ferreiras

Olhanense and Ferreiras are already doomed to relegation. Neither Imortal nor Lagos needed a draw. With only two games remaining, it's really tight.

GD Fabril are 5th on 36 points, then come Imortal on 35, Praiense on 34, Serpa on 33, Vasco da Gama Vidigueira on 33, Oriental Dragon on 32 and in 11th place Lagos on 31. Then a huge gap. The bottom six will be relegated, so of those teams mentioned it's currently Vasco da Gama and those below who will join Angrense, Ferreiras and Olhanense in the wastelands of regional football next season.

Next weekend's vital games are on Saturday because of the Easter holidays. All ko at 1600hrs mainland time. The top four are separated only four points and as fate would have it two are playing each other!

Oriental Dragon v Praiense
Olhanense v Imortal (Olhanense, bottom of the league, haven't won for ages, so you just know...)
GD Fabril v Lagos
Vasco da Gama v Ferreiras
Rabo Peixe (4th) v Juventude Évora(3rd)
Angrense v Lusitano Évora (2nd)
Atlético (1st) v Serpa

ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION ONE SECOND PHASE

Promotion Group

Quarteirense 3 -1 Odiáxere
Silves 2 - 3 Louletano
Os 11 Esperanças 1 - 2 Culatrense

Three games gone and with points carried over, Louletano are 17 points ahead so the outcome of the series does look fairly certain! Campeonato de Portugal at the Algarve Stadium!

No Algarve League games next Saturday because of Easter Holidays

Relegation Group

Lusitano VRSA 4 - 2 Guia
Lagoa 2 - 0 Quarteira SC
Internacional Almancil 3 - 2 Almancil

Almancil are bottom, Guia next to bottom and Internacional Almancil 3rd from bottom. Then a big gap. it's never certain how many will go down, but things do not look good for those three.

No games next Saturday because of holidays. Those games have been moved to 25th April, which is a public holiday

ALGARVE LEAGUE SECOND DIVISION SECOND PHASE

Promotion Group

Sport Faro Benfica 1 - 1 Os Armancanenses
Campinense 0 - 5 Paderne
Portimonense B 1 - 0 Carvoeiro United

Four games played and Paderne are 100%, five points ahead of Sport Faro Benfica and Portimonense B.

Again, no games next weekend.

Silver Group

Sambrasense 2 - 4 Alvor
Quarteirense 1037 6 - 2 Lagos B
AEF João Moutinho v Farense B postponed until 22nd April.

For what it's worth, Quarteirense 1937 are top with 9 points from four games, then come Lagos B with 6 from four.

Bronze group

4 ao Cubo 3 -1 Messinense
Marítimo Olhanense 1 - 0 Sport Algoz Benfica

Even more meaningless, but Marítimo Olhanse have won all three of their games and sit top of the table.

ALGARVE CUP SEMI FINAL

Wednesday night 5th April Louletano v Silves at the Algarve Stadium ko 2030hrs. Winners will meet Paderne in the final.

WOMEN'S FOOTBALL NATIONAL LEAGUE SECOND DIVISION SECOND PHASE TO AVOID RELEGATION

No game for Guia last weekend and they do not play again until 22nd April. They sit 3rd of five teams.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEK'S GAMES

Liga Bwin

Portimonense 2 - 2 Rio Ave att 1246 Portimonense were heading for defeat and more relegation worries until two late goals by Welinton Jr rescued them a point. Next weekend they travel to Estoril, who are two points and one place below them. The game is on Saturday afternoon, 15th April, ko 1530hrs.

Liga Sabseg

Farense 3 - 1 Moreirense att 3963

An important win for Farense against the leaders, helped no doubt by a sending off in the 56th minute. They had got off to a flyer, with a goal in the first minute.

Farense are fourth, 48 points from 27 matches and below Viseu only on goal difference. Those two are a couple of points in arrears of Estrela Amadora in second but a long way behind Moreirense who are atill ten points clear at the top.

Next game for Farense is on Friday evening at 1800hrs, away to Oliveirense, a mid table side.

Liga 3 Second phase relegation group

Second game in, Fontinhas 0 - 0 Moncarapachense

Moncarapachense are bottom of the four team group and will hope to remedy that next Saturday when they host Academica Coimbra with a 1700hrs kickoff at the Olhanense stadium.

Campeonato de Portugal First phase Group D

All the results

Oriental Dragon 2 -1 Praiense
GD Fabril 3 - 0 Lagos
Olhanense 0 - 2 Imortal Albufeira
Atlético 4 -3 Serpa
Vasco da Gama Vidigueira 3 - 1 Ferreiras

With one game remaining, Atlético lead with 49 points, Lusitano Évora second on 48 then Rabo Peixe on 45. Those three are in contention for the two playoff places.

At the other end, Angrense, Ferreiras and Olhanense will definitely be relegated. The bottom six go down to regional leagues. The others in trouble are Lagos on 31 points, Serpa on 33, Praiense on 34, Oriental Dragon on 35 and Vasco da Gama on 36. Imortal with 38 points are safe.

Here's where nails will be chewed next Sunday at 1600hrs :

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES

A bit late, been very busy at the annual Walking Football tournament. (Málaga won, beating Bolton Nomads in the final.)

LIGA Bwin

Estoril 0 - 1 Portimonense att 1714 six games remaining, Portimonense are eight points clear of the relegation spots in 14th place. It would take a monumental effort to fail to to stay safe! Elsewhere, they were dancing in the streets of Chaves, where a 94th minute winner defeated leaders Benfica 1-0 in front of a sell out crowd of 8297. Abosolutely all over 'em doesn't even describe the match statistics, but Benfica couldn't score. That does liven things up at the top of the table, where Benfica are now only four points ahead of Porto, six ahead of Braga with Sporting also ran.

Have to say that the Portimonense goalkeeper pulled off two world class saves in the first half. The goal itself reminded me of the chuckle brothers sketch. Somehow it got over the line and more importantly 3 points.
I am going on Sunday to see the match. Hopefully, the customer service has improved since my last visit, which was shambolic. Here's hoping.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES

Liga Bwin

Portimonense 1 - 0 Gil Vicente att 1278

Portimonense are 13th with 31 points from 29 games. Mathematically they need four more points from the last five games to be 100% certain of avoiding the prospect of a relegation playoff.

Their next game is away at third placed Braga on Saturday afternoon, ko 1530hrs.

Liga Sabseg

Farense 2 - 1 Penafiel att 3907 a late winner gave Farense the points they needed to stay in third place, two points behind Estrela Amadora. Finishing third would give a promotion / relegation playoff with the team finishing 16th in the Liga Bwin.

Their next game will away at Feirerense, who are 5th but way out of the running.

Liga 3

Caldas da Rainha 2 - 0 Moncarapachense

That result confirms Moncarapachense will be relegated to the Campeonato de portugal, where they will join Imortal Albufeira and almost certainly Louletano for next season.

Went to Portimonense v Gil V. Match itself was OK but was disappointed by the home sides tactics. Very defensive. Ball went backwards more often than going forward. The centre forward for Portimonense was winning most of the heading battles with some decent flick ons but the ball was never put in for him to attack.
Got my ticket with ease this time but it amazes me than they only have two counters open before the match.
With Benfica coming next month , I imagine it will be absolute chaos for that game especially if there have a chance of winning the title that game.
Hope Faro can keep in the promotion hunt. Would be good to have another Algarve team in the top flight. With Santa Clara looking doomed and Maritimo probably having to play in the play off, possibility that all teams will come from the mainland next season.
