Last night - Farense 0 - 1 FC Porto an early goal for the visitors was enough. I was unable to watch the game owing to a problem with my cable TV connection. Highlights - http://ligaportugal.vsports.pt/match/7127

The weekend's results leave Farense next to bottom but they do have a game in hand. Portimonense are 13th, with 15 points from 15 games. It is still tight in the bottom half, six points separate 9th from 18th (bottom).

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEK'S GAMES

Liga Nos

Gloom for both Algarve teams.

Results : Tondela 2 - 0 Farense and Portimonense 1 - 2 Boavista

That leaves Farense bottom with 12 points from 15 games, while Portimonense drop to 13th on 15 points from 16 games.

The next round of matches (week 17) is spread over this coming Thursday and Friday. On Thursday afternoon Farense will be at home to Santa Clara and the same night Portimonense travel up to Braga. The fixtures for week 18 originally scheduled for Sunday 7th are in abeyance, presumably awaiting what next the government will announce.

CAMEPEONATO BE PORTUGAL GROUP H results and fixtures for Algarve teams

Vìtoria Setubal 1 - 0 Moncarapachense
Aljustrel 1 - 0 Lagos
Louletano v Olhanense is being played tonight.

Olhanense are currently third on 20 points from 11 games and will go second if they win or draw. Louletano are 5th but have played only 9 games. Lagos stand 6th and Moncarapachense are 7th.

Next weekend, Lagos will host runaway leaders Vítoria Setubal on Friday night, Moncarapachense play Juventude Évora on Sunday and Olhanense meet Aljustrel. Louletano are without a game.

ALGARVE LEAGUE

The Algarve League remains suspended until at least 14th February under the terms of the national state of emergency.

WOMEN'S FOOTBALL

The national second division in which Guia play is I assume likewise suspended. The official Portugal FA website pages for this league have not been updated since mid November!

This afternoon's game between Farense and Santa Clara, ko 1500hrs / 3pm, must be in some doubt if it carries on raining this hard!

Yesterday in Liga NOS

Farense 1 - 1 Santa Clara the pitch in very good condition considering the amount of rain.
Braga 2 -1 Portimonense

That point lifts Farense off the bottom to 17th and they have a game in  hand over those around them. Portimonense drop to 14th. But it is still very tight in the bottom half of the table. Just four points separate 10th from 18th.

At short notice it has been decided that the next round of games will be played mostly on Monday and Tuesday, presumably because players, officials and probably mostly those who that even a game behind closed doors needs are not exempt from the weekend travel ban.

Farense v Moreirense will be on Monday at 1700hrs, Portimonense go to Paços de Ferreira on Tuesday afternoon, 1500ko. (FC Porto of course get to play on Sunday!)

So even less on TV to lighten the gloom for sports fans over the weekend.

More midweek misery for Farense on Monday, going down 2-1 at home to Moreirense [8th]...... no kneejerk improvement in form following their change in coach.
A little more joy for Portimonense, who gritted out a goalless draw at Pacos de Ferreira [5th].

Farense remain 18th and bottom of the pile. Portimonense just outside the relegation spots in 15th.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES

LIGA NOS

Success for both Algarve teams, vital wins in the relegation struggle.

Nacional 2 - 3 Farense despite Farnse having a man sent off just after half time then conceding two goals when 3-0 up.

Portimonense 4 - 1 Gil Vicente a goal in the first minute set Portimonense off on the road to their biggest win for some time.

Those wins lift Portimonense to 11th and Farense to 15th, although it is still very tight at the bottom with only four points separating the bottom eight teams. Farense do have a game in hand. That's scheduled for Wednesday at the faintly ridicukous timne of 945pm! Away to Vìtoria Guimarães.

In the next full round of games, Portimonense travel to Sporting on Saturday night, ko 830pm, while Farense will be at home to Benfica on Sunday night, ko 815pm. I can't see much joy being had there!

Campeonato de Portugal Group H  - results and fixtures for Algarve teams

Moncarapachense 0 - 0 Moura
Louletano 1 - o Lusitano Évora
Juventude Évora 2 - 3 Lagos
Vítoria Setubal 2 - 2 Olhanense

Olhanense are third, 25 points from 14 games with that draw at the leaders reducing the gap to just 14 points. However the team in second palce, Amnora, have played only eleven games. Louletano are fourth, 19 points from eleven games, Lagos fifth and Moncarapachense 7th.

One of those delayed games is scheduled for Wednesday night, Louletano v Moncarapachense.

Sunday 21st Lagos v Moncarapachense; Olhanense v Juventude Évora .Louletano do not have a game as there are only 11 teams in the league.

CAMPEONATO DE PORTUGAL GROUP H

Louletano 1 - 1 Moncarapachense

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES

LIGA NOS

Sporting 2 - 0 Portimonense
Farense 0 - 0 Benfica

A good point for Farense even if Benfica are not the force they once were. Farense drop one place to 15th, Portimonense are 13th but only one point off the relegation zone.

Next Sunday afternoon (1500hrs / 3pm) Portimonese will be at home to bottom side Marítimo. On Saturday afternoon Farense travel to Familicão, who are one place below them. Vital points at stake!

Campeonato de Portugal Group H results and fixtures for Algarve teams

Lagos 3 - 3 Moncarapachense
Olhanense 2 - 0 Juventude Évora

Olhanense are third, 28 points from 15 games but Amora, in second, have three games in hand. Louletano are fourth (20 points and also three games behind), Lagos fifth on 18 points and Moncarapachense 6th.

Forthcoming matches

Wednesday at 1800 Lagos v Louletano

Sunday at 1245 Moncarapachense v Olhanense (for tv?)
at 1500 Lagos v Moura and Louletano v Amora

The Algarve League season has not yet been formally cancelled, but with seven full weeks now having been lost I cannot see any other option but to declare it null and void.

Campeonato de Portugal Group H

Lagos 1 - 2 Louletano

Useful points for Louletano in the race for second place and the playoffs. They now stand fourth with 23 points from 13 games. They have two games in hand over Olhanense, who are third on 28 points, but second placed Amora also have played only 13 games and are 9 points ahead of Louletano. A win against Amora on Sunday would serve them well.

Leaders Vìtoria Setubal are miles ahead, 42 points from 16 games. Remember that this group has only 11 teams, so there are twenty games in total in this first phase.

The two two teams from each of the eight groups will enter a complicated series of playoffs to determine the champions and promotion places.

The lower tiers and age groups football season has still not been officially abandoned. In the meantime the Algarve FA has joined other regional and district sports associations in deploring the government's omission of sports in the recovery and resilience programme, specifically :-

(Translated from the Algarve FA statement with some editing for clarity) :

Failure to promote physical activity as a guarantee of physical and psychological well-being...in the recovery and resilience plan;

The 'brutal' decrease in the number of affiliated sportsmen and women;

The definitive commitment to the sporting evolution of (those) who aspire to reach the top;

The role of sport in education and personal training and as a guarantor of public health;

Sport's essential contribution to the fight against social inequality, stratification and poverty, especially among children;

The imminent disappearance of clubs and sports associations, which carries with it a serious social and economic problem;

As they consider that the document ignores all of these points, the District and Regional Football Associations call on the Government to include sports in the Recovery and Resilience Plan.
