LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEK'S GAMES

Watched the end of the Sporting v Farense match last night. 0-0 with a few minutes to go, obviously not the result the ref was supposed to supply, so a cross comes in from a Sporting free kick, keeper comes off his line and punches the ball away one handed, taking a Sporting player with him. Perfectly normal run-of-the-mill stuff you see every week. But no - referee decides that not only is this a penalty, but a yellow card, the keeper's second, so off he goes. VAR has a look, presumably says "That's okay" even though you can see the keeper clearly gets the ball first from the angle behind the goal. Sporting score the penalty, win the game and the ref obviously keeps his bonus (shared with the VAR team, no doubt).
Absolute travesty.

I saw it too. Farenses Facebook has gone into meltdown since and their President has sent a accusatory message to the Primera League.
To be fair this sort of dodgy reffing has been in evidence over there for years. So many times a penalty materialises in favour of the big four teams if theres any danger of them dropping points against lowlifes like Farense/Portimonense etc. Or the lower teams dont get their own penalties, when fairly earned Rant over.

Weekend results and forthcoming fixtures LIGA NOS Portimonense 0 - 0 Famalicão and as you have read and seen, Sporting 1 - 0 Farense thanks to that very dodgy penalty award on the 86th minute. There are video clips at https://www.ligaportugal.pt/pt/liga/jogo/20202021/liganos/10/8 Those results means that Farense and Portimonense occupy the bottom two plazces both have eight points from ten games. No winter break this season, so on Sunday 27th Farense will play Paços de Ferreira at 1730 then on Tuesday Portimonense travel to Benfica ko 1800. CAMPEONATO DE PORTUGAL Group H midweek - Moura 0 - 1 Lagos Louletano 2 - 0 Aljustrel Lusitano Évora 1 - 2 Moncarapachense Olhanense 1 - 1 Moura (fixture was reversed from the original and played on Sunday) Olhanense are 3rd with 13 points from seven games, Louletano 4th with 12 points from six games, Lagos 7th with 10 points also from seven games and Moncarapachense 8th with ten points from nine games. ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION ONE Silves v Imortal Albufeira postponed, to be played on Wednesday Guia 1 v 4 Louletano B Lagoa 2 v 0 Ferreiras Odiáxere 2 v 3 Lusitano VRSA Imortal remain top and if they win on Wednesday will be five points ahead of Ferreiras. ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION TWO all at 1800hrs Portimonense U23 v Internacional Almancil postponed Quarteirense 0 v 2 Carvoeiro United 4 ao Cubo 0 v 4 Farense U23 Sambrasense 3 v 1 Campinense Paderne v Maritimo Olhanense postponed So far as I can make out these are the fixtures for the lower leagues over the next two weeks or so. Tuesday 22nd ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISWION TWO Internacional Almancil v Carvoeiro United 4 ao Cubo v Quarteirense Wednesday 23rd CAMPEONATO DE PORTUGAL Amora v Louletano ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION ONE Silves v Imortal Albufeira. The Campeonato de Portugal has no fixtures on December 27th. There is a full round of matches scheduled for 3rd January. There are no Algarve League games scheduled for either 26th December or 2nd January. There are a couple of midweek games on 5th and 6th January and a full set of matches on 9th January. More on those nearer the time. |

My mistake - Looking at the highlights, the keeper wasn't sent off, a defender was. In my defence I had had a few glasses of wine, and we were watching with the sound off. I can only imagine it was for dissent, as the other Sporting player who plunged to the turf in the same incident was hardly touched.

Odd, my take a little different..... watching on Freesport in the UK with English commentary. Farense keeper had been booked initially for timewasting, in the FIRST half, not seen too often in itself. The main incident in the closing minutes. Sporting crossed the ball in, goalie made to punch away but made only a faint contact. On following through he caught the forward in the head who went down as if shot. Ref bought it and awarded the penalty. Lots of the usual scuffling about and the ref brandished a second yellow card to the keeper, thus sending him off. Luckily Farense hadnt used all their subs at that point so were able to take a defender off and bring on the reserve goalie. A diminutive, greyhaired member of the Farense support staff was also dismissed with a straight red card for some sort of dissent/abuse/armwaving. Penalty duly converted and Farense back down the road home, more than a little dischuffed.

You are right Lofters - the highlights look to show the same keeper in goal for the penalty because of the editing. They show him on the line then the penalty being taken. It's clear when you see the replay of the penalty it is a different keeper - he's a black guy, which is a bit of a giveaway...
I didn't watch beyond the taking of the kick.

Last night
ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION 1 Silves 1 - 1 Imortal Imortal lose their 100% record but remain top of the table, three points ahead of Ferreiras in second and four points ahead of the three teams who have 12 points. The Farense goalie sent off was the appropriately named Defendi. Captain Ryan Gauld was booked after the game as was a Sporting player. In all, nine yellow and three red cards were seen including the Farense coach as mentioned above.
